Final newline

Currently, this can start on the same line as preceding text, but the following text cannot start on the same line as the quote. This seems inconsistent to me; would you mind the newline being removed? Or at least made optional? Chealer (talk) 03:16, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

I created this template as an alternative to {{tq}}, which is more focused on inline quotations, while I needed something resembling block quotes, like the ones in emails or forums.

You're right that the <br> is somewhat redundant—especially since this template is typically used inside indented replies, which naturally separate the response. However, without the explicit line break, there is risk of formatting issues if the template is used in non-indented contexts, especially now that we have the new talk page interface.

That said, I agree that removing the newline (or making it optional) could improve consistency and flexibility. To avoid breaking existing uses, however, I'd suggest making it optional rather than removing it entirely. Perhaps a named parameter like nobr=1 would work? Arguably, it would be less convenient, but also more robust.
