Notability of Academics
Global Policies
Many scientists, researchers, philosophers and other scholars (collectively referred to as academics) are influential in the world of ideas β but not all automatically qualify for a Wikipedia article. Notability must be proven through academic achievement and verifiable, independent sourcing. Below are the 8 core criteria that establish notability under the English Wikipedia guideline.
Their research has influenced their field through citations, reviews, or groundbreaking discovery. Evidence includes highly cited papers, major reviews, or development of widely adopted concepts or techniques.
The person has won national or international academic awards (e.g. Nobel, Fields Medal, Guggenheim). Student-level awards or vanity press awards are not sufficient.
They are elected to a prestigious scholarly society (e.g. National Academy of Sciences, IEEE Fellow, Royal Society). Membership in non-notable groups doesnβt qualify.
Their academic work (like textbooks) is used across many institutions. Significant curriculum impact qualifies β not isolated local usage.
Theyβve held a named chair or full professorship at a respected academic institution. Junior roles do not apply.
They've led major academic institutions or societies (e.g. university president, director of a notable research center).
Theyβve influenced the public as academics (e.g. expert media commentary, public education books in their field).

Wiki Loves AfroDemics 2025 β Contest Arena
Non-compliance with any part of these rules, for any reason, will result in immediate and automatic disqualification from the contest. You are required to only create articles on subject listed at the #Articles To Create section.
Research is essential and typically requires only a few minutes to locate sources for an academic, provided such sources exist.
To find sources:
β’ Jump to the Articles To Create section.
β’ Select a subject of interest from the "Articles" column in the table.
β’ Search for sources on Google, Bing, or other reliable search engines.
β’ Gather sources that confirm the subject meets English Wikipedia's notability guidelines for academics, as explained above.
All articles must be created in English Wikipedia's draftspace, which means the page title should begin with "Draft:" followed by the subject's name. Only English Wikipedia autopatrolled users (not autoconfirmed) are exempted from this rule.
To create a draft article:
β’ Use the input box below to enter the name of the subject you picked from the #Articles To Create section earlier.
β’ Click the "Create new draft article" button below the input box.
β’ Start writing your draft article
β’ After writing draft, you can submit for review by clicking the "Submit" button at top of the draft.
β’ Ensure names are properly formatted as proper nouns. For example, avoid writing "BOLA TINUBU" or "bola tinubu"; the correct format is "Bola Tinubu".
All article drafts must adhere to the following:
β’ Be written from a neutral point of view.
β’ Be verifiable. This means every statement added to the draft must be supported by a reliable source cited immediately after the statement.
β’ Avoid conflict of interest. If you are a relative, close friend, or otherwise personally connected to any academics listed in the #Articles To Create section, you are not entirely prohibited from creating a draft. However, you must either avoid creating the draft or disclose your conflict of interest before proceeding.
β’ All translations to the Nigerian-language Wikipedias must be accurate. You are expected to able to write in the language so, using machine translators is highly prohibited. Again, non-compliance will lead to an automatic and immediate disqualification from the contest.
Create Your Draft
Quick Rule Recap:
β’ Drafts must live in Draft: namespace unless autopatrolled.
β’ Titles must use proper capitalization: Proper nouns only.
β’ Neutral tone, verifiable sources, conflictβofβinterest disclosure if applicable.
β’ Nigerianβlanguage wiki translations must be humanβauthored, no machine translators.
