2024 Activity Summary
[edit]Since its establishment in October/November 2024, the Gambia Wikimedia Community had limited activity. The focus was to lay the foundation for future projects. The main initiative undertaken was the: WikiGambia: the Gambia stub challenge Campaign
The campaign aimed to improve the quality and depth of Wikipedia articles about Gambians. With over 598 stub-level articles and 389 start-level articles identified, much of The Gambia’s rich history, culture, and contributions were underrepresented online. This pilot project brought together Wikimedia volunteers, providing them with firsthand experience in participating in Wikimedia campaigns and enriching articles with reliable references and detailed content.
As this was the group’s first campaign, and most participating editors had little or no prior experience, the overall impact on article quality was limited. However, it served as an important learning opportunity, preparing members for more effective contributions in future initiatives.
