In this issue we highlight two resource renewals, #EveryBookItsReader, a note about Phabricator, and, as always, a roundup of news and community items related to libraries and digital knowledge.

Renewed partners

[edit]

The Wikipedia Library is announcing that two partners have recently renewed their availability:

  • Brill: a Dutch international academic publisher.
  • De Standaard: a Flemish daily newspaper published in Belgium by Mediahuis.

Spotlight: #EveryBookItsReader

[edit]
This spotlight is excerpted from this Diff post by Lilian Viana, Laurie Bridges and Ssstela.

In times of information overload, misinformation, and fake news, preserving and accessing humanity's cultural memory is crucial. Participating in Wikimedia projects–platforms built on open knowledge–is a political act advocating for global access to information and culture as a fundamental human right. In Wikimedia projects, librarians, editors, information professionals, readers, authors, and all those interested in the universe of culture and science contribute to the construction of a more diverse digital sphere when they use their voices to serve the public good.

From this standpoint, the global campaign #EveryBookItsReader is an invitation to improve information about books, authors, and oral histories on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Participants contribute to the preservation and access of accurate information around our cultural memory.

Launched in 2023 by a team of volunteer librarians and held every April to mark World Book Day (April 23rd), the campaign invites volunteers to contribute to Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikisource, Wikiquote, Wikibooks and others, by improving information about books, authors, and oral narratives.

See the 2025 Outreach Dashboard to track the progress of the campaign.

Tech tip: Phabricator

[edit]

Notice a technical problem with a Wikipedia Library resource, or part of the interface? Want to check on ongoing partnership discussions? Both of these can be done on Phabricator, a software project tool used to track bugs and plans related to The Wikipedia Library as well as Wikimedia projects more broadly. The Partnerships workboard displays the progress of partner discussions, while the Library Card Platform workboard flags bugs and technical development requests.
