In this issue we highlight a new partner, Frankfurt Book Fair, a note about mass downloads, and, as always, a roundup of news and community items related to libraries and digital knowledge.

Partner announcements

[edit]

The Wikipedia Library is announcing free access to a new partner:

  • Hindu Tamil Thisai: colloquially known as The Hindu Tamil, this is a Tamil daily newspaper headquartered at Chennai

Frankfurt Book Fair 2024

[edit]

Members of The Wikipedia Library team attended the Frankfurt Book Fair in October. There, we both met new potential partners and were able to sit down with publishers who are already part of the program to update them on how their content is being cited on Wikimedia projects and explore other collaboration opportunities. Although we will need to follow up with the new contacts we made at the fair to confirm their participation in the library program, we are optimistic that a few new collections should be added to the library over the coming months as a result of attending the event. Your suggestions helped us to prioritise the publishers we met with, so please continue to submit and upvote!

Tech tip: Mass downloads

[edit]

There have recently been a few instances of users mass-downloading materials available through The Wikipedia Library. These are detected by TWL partners and reported, which can result in user access being revoked. Mass downloading of partner content or other actions like uploading materials to piracy sites puts the library's ability to provide these resources at risk. Please don't do this!
