AIRAT OLUWATOYIN ABDUL RAHMON
[edit]About me
[edit]
I am a graduate of Mass Communication at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. A practicing broadcast journalist, social advocate, and policy analyst with Voice of Nigeria, passionate about advancing open knowledge and inclusive representation in digital spaces. Since joining the Wikimedia community in 2024, I have actively contributed to various campaigns and events, serving as moderator for the Wiki Re-Imagine Lagos Project panel discussion, the first African Wikipedian Alliance Quarterly Conference in 2024, which explored the theme: "Strengthening The African Framework Within Wikimedia Communities". It focused on the significance of an empowered, interconnected African Wikimedian community and the transformative power of collaboration and resource sharing. Now highly skilled in contributing to Wikipedia, Wikisource and Wikidata, I recently moderated the training session on how data is structured on Wikidata during the 2025 IWD campaign of celebrating African women in Politics and Journalism on Wikimedia. Currently, I am a fellow of the Africa Wiki Women Leadership and Mentorship Program, where I continue to champion visibility for African women and marginalized voices on Wikimedia platforms.
JOURNEY SO FAR
[edit]I joined the Wikimedia Community in March 2024 at the International Women's Day conference and collaboration organized by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria to introduce women Journalists to open-source usage and contribution through Wikipedia editing training. Excited to make meaningful connections and immerse myself in the learning and growing process, I began my sojourn.
I'm relatively young in the movement and still exploring all there is about Wikimedia projects, so, I encourage myself to keep steady doing the little I can because it's a part of a whole, you know like a jigsaw puzzle.
If Wikimedia were a person, I'd see her as a woman who's all-encompassing... With differing strengths from community members, she's able to breed us all to contribute to a common goal which is contributing to open knowledge. I thrive in the belief that the world is bland without a woman. So, I shall adorn myself, however I please, and I will find my place... You know, like a jigsaw puzzle.
Thanks for reading!!!
