O Bharat scanning and review Support
[edit]'Bharat'kar Govind Pundalik Hegde Desai, (7th Nov 1885 - 15th Aug 1949), a freedom fighter, a social reformer, a valiant journalist who started 'Bharat' ('O Bharat' in Portuguese) a Marathi-Portuguese bilingual weekly, on 6th November 1912. For 36 years thereafter, Bharatkar courageously protested the Portuguese occupation, relentlessly advocated radical and progressive social reforms and doggedly championed the cause of an independent and sovereign Indian Goa.
The digitization project of O Bharat was led by Subodh Ji. I have given all the technical training support towards the scanning process should be done. I uploaded the 5-volume on an urgent basis to Wikimedia Commons in O Bharat category before 15th August due to launch.
On the 75th Independence day, the Chief Minister of Goa inaugurated the digitized volumes of 100-year-old O Bharat newspaper and collection of selected editorial from O Bharat on Wikimedia Commons. The different media houses covered the event in the newspapers. The news mentions the support of CIS-A2K and the Wikimedia Foundation. Other details may be found in project page.

Infrastructural Needs of Indian Language Wikisource Projects
[edit]The report of the research study -Infrastructural Needs of Indian Language Wikisource Projects - was completed and published on meta. The study has two areas of focus. One was, what are the critical challenges with working on Indian language Wikisource projects by the community? These may include obstacles in Wikisource workflow, policies and open licenses, to challenges such as quality of content and lack of community engagement. The second one was, what are gap areas and spaces for improvement in the infrastructure of these platforms, especially related to technological capacity, resources and training?
Gujarati Wikisource Community skill-building workshop
[edit]What, When, Where, How:
Gujarati Wikisource Community skill-building workshop was conducted by CIS-A2K in collaboration with the Gujarati Wikisource community from 24-26 September 2022. A total of 10 number participants were present. The last interaction was Gujarati Wikisource Workshop, Ahmedabad in Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust with 3 days basic training workshop. That was a very truthfully workshop for this small community with 5 active members.
Impact:
After 3 years, this Wikisource advance level workshop was conducted, so the community involvement was very pleasant. They have learned lots of unknown tools like the below learning section.
Learning:
- Although all the participants were active in Wikisource, they don't have a few things regarding the tool and PDF file process and Pagelist Gadget.
- Small had a great friendship environment to conduct this workshop.
- Scanning facility should be required for the northeastern zone.
- Limited PD books available in Gujarati Wikisource. Presently 193 books are available in Gujarati Wikisource.
Follow-up:
The iterations of this workshop are planned for the next program year. One scanning partnership is being planned at Gujarati Sahitya Academy and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
