Since I joined Wikipedia in 2006, the mission and ideals of what is now called a 'movement' have embraced a far greater scope of activities beyond that of creating encyclopedias. The number of employees has gone from 7 to 700 in that time. As of 2023, according to en.Wiki, the foundation has 'net assets of $255 million and an endowment which has reached around $144 million'.
This all needs managing. It also needs a watchdog. That watchdog is the BoT. The BoT is supposed to supervise and provide counsel to the Wikimedia Foundation but the Board has not been without its own serious contentious issues. There is also the question of whether the BoT-WMF relationship is one of the-tail-wagging-the-dog.
The work of the Wikipedia encyclopedias' volunteers is what generates the donations, and most importantly, the English Wikipedia realises more than half of the revenue.
My votes go to the candidates from the English Wikipedia Community, and those who have a long and firmly established experience and solid engagement beyond simply making the occasional correction of a typo in an article they read.
Trust is also a major factor, and the most important, and it comes from knowing the candidates and what they do. My trust in the individuals I support comes from many years of direct collaboration with them both on, and off Wiki in the knowledge that their interest lies wholly in the interest of the volunteers and other audiences, their technical requirements, and in wanting to know how the money they generate really gets spent - and why.

Wahlleitfaden für den Stiftungsrat (Kuratorium ) 2025 Seit meinem Eintritt bei Wikipedia im Jahr 2006 haben sich die Mission und die Ideale dieser sogenannten „Bewegung“ weit über die Erstellung von Enzyklopädien hinaus erweitert. Die Zahl der angestellten Mitarbeiter stieg in dieser Zeit von 7 auf 700. Laut en.Wiki verfügt die Stiftung im Jahr 2023 über ein Nettovermögen von ca. $255 Millionen und ein Stiftungsvermögen von über $144 Millionen. All dies muss verwaltet werden. Es braucht auch eine Aufsichtsbehörde. Diese Aufsichtsbehörde ist der BoT (Kuratorium). Der BoT soll die Wikimedia Foundation beaufsichtigen und beraten, war aber nicht ohne seine eigenen großen Streitpunkte. Es stellt sich auch die Frage, ob die Beziehung zwischen dem BoT und der WMF von einem klassische Fall vom 'Schwanz, der mit dem Hund wedelt' geprägt ist. Die Arbeit der Freiwilligen der Wikipedia-Enzyklopädien generiert die Spenden, und vor allem erzielt die englischsprachige Wikipedia mehr als die Hälfte der Einnahmen. Meine Stimme gilt den Kandidaten aus der englischsprachigen Wikipedia-Community und denjenigen, die über langjährige und fundierte Erfahrung und solides Engagement verfügen, das über die gelegentliche Korrektur eines Tippfehlers in einem Artikel, den sie lesen, sehr weit hinausgeht. Vertrauen ist ebenfalls ein wichtiger Faktor, doch der wichtigste. Es entsteht dadurch, dass man die Kandidaten kennt und weiß, was sie tun. Mein Vertrauen in die Personen, die ich unterstütze, beruht auf langjähriger direkter Zusammenarbeit mit ihnen sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb von Wiki, in dem Wissen, dass ihr Interesse ausschließlich im Interesse der Freiwilligen und der Leser liegt, ihren technischen Anforderungen und dem Wunsch zu wissen, wie das Geld tatsächlich ausgegeben wird.. |

Guide pour l'élection du conseil d'administration de 2025 Depuis mon arrivée à Wikipédia en 2006, la mission et les idéaux de ce soi-disant « mouvement » se sont étendus bien au-delà de la création d'encyclopédies. L'effectif salarié est passé de 7 à 700 personnes au cours de cette période. Selon en.Wiki, la fondation disposera d'un actif net de 255 millions de dollars et d'une dotation de plus de $144 millions. Tout cela doit être géré. Il est également nécessaire de mettre en place un organe de surveillance : le conseil d'administration. Ce dernier est censé superviser et conseiller la Fondation Wikimedia, mais il n'a pas été exempt de ses propres points de discorde majeurs. Se pose également la question de savoir si la relation entre le conseil d'administration et la Fondation Wikimedia est un cas classique de « monde à l'envers ». Le travail des bénévoles de Wikipédia génère des dons et, plus important encore, la version anglaise de Wikipédia génère plus de la moitié de ce financement. Mon vote va aux candidats issus de la communauté Wikipédia anglophone, à ceux qui possèdent une solide expérience et un engagement fort, qui va bien au-delà de la correction d'une faute de frappe occasionnelle dans un article, lors de la lecture. La confiance est l'élément le plus important. Elle repose sur la bonne connaissance des candidats et de leurs activités. Ma confiance envers les personnes que je soutiens repose sur de nombreuses années de collaboration directe avec elles, tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur de Wikipédia, sachant que leur intérêt réside entièrement dans l’intérêt des bénévoles et des lecteurs, dans leurs exigences techniques et dans le désir de savoir comment l’argent est dépensé - et pourquoi. |

[edit]- Any candidate who appears to be looking for a seat on the board as an apogee of their Wikipedia/Wikimedia career or to embellish their CV is unlikely to obtain my support.
- Any candidates who are present or former salaried WMF staff or contractors are disqualified from my vote on principle.
As the ranking and single transferable voting system is not appropriate for this small election, there are no candidates left in the Board's final selection whom I would support.
