User:lp0 on fire/Global username policy
With single unified login, users generally use the same username on all Wikimedia projects, although this is not required. Some kinds of usernames are prohibited globally; individual projects may impose further restrictions where reasonable.
Globally prohibited usernames
[edit]The following usernames will usually be globally locked and suppressed by stewards:
- Usernames that are libellous or grossly offensive
- Usernames that contain non-public personal information about others, whether true or not
- Usernames that impersonate either public figures or other editors
- Any other material that is suppressible under the Oversight policy.
Serious violations should be reported by email. Reports to Steward requests/Global should usually be limited to less severe cases.
Editors with usernames that imply the intent to violate the Wikimedia Foundation terms of use or the universal code of conduct will usually be blocked by local administrators, although they may be globally blocked or locked in particularly severe cases.
Local restrictions
[edit]Many Wikimedia projects impose additional restrictions on usernames that violate local policies, such as usernames that imply an account is used by more than one person. However, users are given some discretion in choosing how others refer to them, so such policies should avoid being unreasonably restrictive in cases where a user intends to comply with the project's goals.
Username policies should never allow users to be blocked or otherwise discriminated against on the basis that their username implies a particular sexual orientation, religion, gender, nationality, age, disability, or ethnicity. Blocks made in unambiguous violation of this policy may be reverted by any administrator or steward.
