My name is Brett Buttliere, NabuKudurru. I am a researcher at the University of Warsaw. My work is about digital infrastructure for science, and also about how scientists can communicate their results to the public via e.g., Wikipedia.
You can see my google scholar page here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=grffAkgAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao
I am probably most available on my bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/brettbuttliere.bsky.social or twitter: https://x.com/home?lang=en
I have contributed mostly to articles about psychology and meta-science. For instance my meta.data() R package that helps researchers create and share templates for particular variables (Buttliere, 2021). I also played some role in the early open science movement, for instance receiving a travel award from SIPS for the first event in 2016 or giving the opening academic talk at the Altmetrics conference in Toronto 2018.
My work for Wikimedia has mostly involved trying to bring resources to the community, and in general get Wikimedians at least professional credit for the work they are doing. I see Wikimedia as a perfect place for scientists to communicate their work and impact directly to the public, where they look for knowledge (i.e., getting rid of the science journal system, Buttliere, 2014).
This work resulted for instance in the development of a new program type in the Programs and Events (P&E) Dashboard which will help Wikimedians better track and report their individual contributions to decision makers. I also was the Lead/ Primary Investigator on an EU COST Action grant which is intended to develop a platform for academics to work together on getting each other credit for their work. This project had 19 co-signatories from 14 countries within the european context.
Our next work is establishing a Wikimedia Science Hub to speak for all science related affiliates within Wikimedia and provide a check in point for academic initiatives coming to Wikimedia e.g., looking for speakers, project partners or etc. Our Hub is intended to serve administrative and grantmaking services to the Wikimedia Science community, bringing people together, and also serving as a fiscal sponsor where it makes sense.
