For the purpose of this page, a small wiki is one that allows global sysops and has about 10,000 content pages or fewer.

Scope

The most common type of work is requesting for deletions of obvious vandalism and spam pages. When tagging these, also post a request at GSR; you might not need to/shouldn't do so if there are multiple active admins.

Work to do

Create log

Go through Special:Log/create and check every page you deem worth checking. Tag pages for deletion as necessary.

A disadvantage of this approach is non-exhaustiveness: Create logs were introduced in July 2018.

Check gadgets

Look for gadgets that don't work or are unlikely to work, especially those enabled by default.

If you find one, contact local interface admins. If they don't respond in a reasonable amount of time, post a request at SRM.

FAQ

What to do when an article's content seems fine, but it contains spam links?

If the links were added later, revert to a good revision. Otherwise, tag it for deletion. If you don't speak the language, do not attempt to remove such links or "clean up" the article. Spammers typically use machine translators or LLM to generate such articles, and they certainly don't care about what they post. Preserving such articles means cluttering the wiki with potentially incorrect or at the very least non-grammatical content. Assume the worst.

Norms

Community-specific norms that patrollers might need to know:

• chrwiki:
  • Pages containing just a name and optionally an image generally should not be deleted as No useful content, though there have been at least one precedent of global sysops saying otherwise.
• smnwiki:
  • Redirects to non-existent articles should not be deleted.
