Nau mai, haere mai!
[edit]I am a Pākehā New Zealander, born further north yet raised under the shadow of Mount Taranaki. You may call me Mo, and you may call me by the masculine. And if you are wondering of my username, it is the Māori word for imagination. I used to be Just Another NZ Wikipedian, but as I became confident in my national identity, I changed it to something a bit more original.
I was previously an undergraduate of the Victoria University of Wellington with a majoring in Linguistics and Sociolinguistics. Far more than that, though, I credit Wellington with getting me exposed to the many different peoples of the world. I still have a few friends who have left New Zealand for their homelands overseas, which I regularly keep contact with to use the languages I know.
Currently I am on track to become a teacher of languages, and in the interim until I get there a teacher of schoolkids in my country. As such, I champion Māori as an expression of my values and my stomping grounds, and naturally I extend my advocacy to other marginalized languages.
