Self request global block[edit]

Hi Ruy,

Could you do a global block for me please. I think it is time to make a retirement and I do not want to prevent anymore trouble.

Thanks EurovisionNim (talk) 01:14, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello, EurovisionNim,
Being a global sysop, I can not handle global (b)locks.
Anyway, it doesn't seem your request meets the valid reasons for a global lock.

Request for Translation Adminship[edit]

Hi user:Ruy Pugliesi, my name is María, I am community liaison of Learning and Evaluation team at Wikimedia Foundation. I noted you reverted my edits on Meta:Requests for adminship. Can you please help me with this request? I'm trying to get translator admin rights. I created this page because I thought that was the way to do it. Thanks in advance for your help, and looking forward to hearing from you! MCruz (WMF) (talk) 22:40, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello, María. I accidently reverted your edit there while checking my whatchlist. Sorry for that. :(
I did some minor fixes to the page.
Thank you. Ruy Pugliesi 23:21, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Ruy Pugliesi, awesome to hear that, then! I thought I did something wrong :-/ Thanks for putting the request back on. Best wishes, MCruz (WMF) (talk) 22:40, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

37.144.145.16[edit]

Will you look, please, at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/37.144.145.16 That seems to be a destructive bot. What do you think about it? How to deal with it? Domitori (talk) 04:19, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear Domitori. It appears a human to me, not a automated script.
Anyway, it's a dynamic IP address and it is not editing anymore.
It seems that some deletion requests are correctly processed, like this one. Otherwise, it haven't paid proper attention to the existing permission field in most of them.
Regards, Ruy Pugliesi 17:49, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
The ability of a bot to delete files greatly exceed by ability to rocover them.
You may look also to the example in the Russian version of wikisource, but this time the bot is handled by the registered user Lozman, who removes the text of the following authors:
https://ru.wikisource.org/wiki/Леонард_Борисович_Терновский
https://ru.wikisource.org/wiki/Софья_Васильевна_Каллистратова
https://ru.wikisource.org/wiki/Александр_Павлович_Тимофеевский
The texts are moved to some strange site http://wikilivres.ru
There, the user with the same nick Lozman removes them with pretext of violation of the copyright
(the licenses from Wikisource are not transferred to that site).
You may look for the example at
https://ru.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Леонард_Борисович_Терновский&oldid=96651
What do you think about this? Domitori (talk) 13:38, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Dear, Domitori. I see that other users gave you some replies already. Anyway, you'd better contact the local community members/sysops for a proper response imo. If I can help you somehow, please, contact me. Regards, Ruy Pugliesi 22:38, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations![edit]

Hello Ruy Pugliesi,

On behalf of the stewards' election committee, congratulations on your election as a steward! Your permissions have now been set and you are able to start working.

You have been added to the list of stewards and the stewards' chart. Please take a moment to check that your details are accurate and update them if necessary.

You have been given access to the mailing lists related to your steward duties, which include: checkuser-l, the private mailing list for Wikimedia checkusers, stewards-l, the private list for stewards. In addition, you have been or will be given access to the related private wikis, one for checkusers and the other solely for stewards, details of which will be provided.

If you use IRC, you will be given access to several channels, including #wikimedia-checkuserconnect and #wikimedia-privacyconnect. Please also idle in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect when you are available for duty.

Best of luck with your new tools; I am sure you will do a fantastic job. Please remember that your fellow stewards are always available if you need a second opinion, either via the mailing list or on IRC.

I understand that you probably thought that someone was vandalizing my m:user page, which might just have been me, as I think I might have edited my own account before signing in first. Is there anything I can do about that? It'll probably look bad, real bad, if I were to run for adminship.

And how'd you revert the edit so fast! That's quite impressive. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shirugaki (talk) Ruy Pugliesi 04:28, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information by 15 December[edit]

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 31 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this message because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015, you will lose your access to nonpublic information.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum@wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 31 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

If you wish to stop receiving these notices, you may remove yourself from this list. Please note that doing so will not prevent you from losing related user rights after the 15 December 2015 deadline.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

URGENT: Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information by 15 December[edit]

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

I wanted to follow-up on an message I sent you in September regarding the need for you to sign a confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 31 December 2015) in order to maintain your access from Wikimedia to nonpublic information.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are transitioning to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

From the edits, he looks like a duck of Link Smurf. Please tag him on enwiki. I am asking you because you locked him. Hints: Interstate articles are his favorite to vandalize "Eolgi" is his favorite word.

Thanks for reporting. Both accounts were already locked. Ruy Pugliesi 05:01, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
