Hello, I'm Ricky Macharm, I have qualifications on Data Science, Quantitative Finance (Quant), and Machine Learning. I was born in Jos, Nigeria, and spent the first 40 years of my life living and working across the country, including in Bauchi, Maiduguri, and Abuja, with shorter stays in Kaduna, Ife, and Akwanga.

My father, and his siblings, was born and raised in Shen, a village near Du. My mother's parents were originally from Zawan; however, she was raised in Jos. My paternal Grandmother was from Foron and was related to the late Barnabas Dusu. Even though I wasn't raised speaking Berom much, my passion for Berom translation was kindled into flame during my visits to his house as a teenager.

My professional journey has a unique duality. On one hand, I develop and apply sophisticated skills in algorithmic trading and financial engineering, a path solidified by my Master's in Financial Engineering from WorldQuant University. I now have the pleasure of giving back to that community as a Data Science Instructor.

On the other hand, I am deeply committed to advancing technology within the African context. I am an active research contributor in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for under-resourced African languages, working closely with the Masakhane research community. I also run the SisengAI blog and work as a consultant.

A few years ago, my family and I moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and we are now presently living in Germany.

I am presently working with the BLTB to manage a website/blog in the Berom language. We encourage all Berom speakers to send their stories all written in Berom we so we could show case them online for posterity.
