The Iranian Wikimedians User Group is an independent user group consisting of contributors from various Wikimedia projects, with the aim of supporting and promoting Persian content and Iran-related topics on Wikimedia platforms. This group serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and promoting cultural and educational content online among Iranians.

Iran Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 Winner

Objectives

  • To promote Wikimedia projects within the Iranian community.
  • To promote editing of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Persian and other local languages of Iran.
  • To engage and encourage more Persian speakers to become contributors of the Wikimedia projects.
  • To organize in-person and online events for local community Wikimedians by providing them with resources needed to enhance both their skills and ability for the development of the Wikimedia projects.

  • December 2025: Annual report released for 2025.
  • November 2025: Successful completion of Wikipedia Asian Month edit-a-thon in Tehran.
  • October 2025: Launch of the "Wiki Loves Monuments" photography contest in Iran.
  • September 2025: New partnership announced with Tehran University Digital Library.
  • August 2025: Community meetup held online to discuss strategic plans.

Our Activities

This user group plans to hold and support the following activities:

Meetings

Organising meet-ups for members to exchange ideas and find ways to support them in areas where they need help.

Edit-a-thons

Helping new Wikipedians learn editing techniques to create, translate, and improve content in all Wikimedia projects.

Contests

Organising editing contests, photographic contests (like Wiki Loves Monuments), and trips to encourage content creation and media upload to Commons.
