URGENT: Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information now

This is a reminder to acknowledge and sign the new Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information. As you know, your volunteer role in Wikimedia projects gives you access to secure and sensitive information.

The new version includes one major change.

• There is a change regarding the way personal data may be released. Accordingly, functionaries must notify the Wikimedia Foundation at check-disclosurewikimedia.org before releasing data, in order to obtain a written approval for doing so. The Foundation will respond within 10 days. However, for emergencies, such as cases involving threats of violence, functionaries may release the personal data without such explicit permission, but they should notify the Foundation immediately following the disclosure. If they choose not to disclose the data, the request for disclosure should be forwarded to the Foundation's emergency email address (emergencywikimedia.org).

There are also some wording changes that were made to more closely align the language with evolving industry norms, best practices and laws. The most notable of these has been the change of the term "nonpublic information" to "nonpublic personal data". None of these changes are intended to make fundamental changes to the scope or practice of the policy but we know they could appear as such, hence wanted to flag them.

The aforementioned changes require users that have already signed the previous version of the policy to sign the new version as well.

We therefore ask that you to sign the updated version. Signing the agreement is tracked on Phabricator's Legalpad. An online guide is available to help you with signing the agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign. If you wish you can sign it directly at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/L37. The exact policy is located here: Access to nonpublic personal data policy. [1]. Thank you for your reply. I'm asking all of these questions, because a native Arabic speaker calls me "ya Helwe" - whenever he sees me - even though he knows I'm not a girl. Additionally, I'm fairly sure I don't look like a girl. He also knows I'm not an Arabic speaker, so I wonder why he speaks this way.

Actually my three questions at the Arabic reference desk were intended to estimate - why he says "ya helwe" (as a feminime form) rather than the expected "ya helu" (as a masculine form), so I thought I could get the answer from any native speaker - who can answer my questions at the Arabic reference desk.

So, as I understand now from your answer, when "ya here" refers to a person - it can't refer to a boy (grammatically speaking), can it? Additionally, it can't mean "candy" (because he doesn't pronounce it "helwa" but rather "here"), can it? 11:50, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

No it can't refer to a man or mean candy. This person might just be messing around thinking he is funny or trying to annoy you for some reason. I'm not sure if his intention is sexual harassment because this word can be used among friends or school kids just as a way to mess with each other, a harmless way if you know what a mean, as you know from the person's tone that he is only joking or wants to harmlessly annoy you. But it can also be a type of verbal sexual harassment. I Guess you have to be the judge depending on how much you know this person or how much you know about him. In any case if it annoys you try to reason with him first, maybe he'll comply--باسم (talk) 13:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

As for "friends or school kids" messing with each other, well, he is not a school kid, because he is around sixty years old. Actually, I am much younger than him, and he never sees me in places other than the street where I live, so I guess he doesn't think we are friends.

As for "annoy" me, I wonder why he would like to do that, saying a word in a language he knows I don't understand.

As for harassment, well, possible, actually that's what I thought in the beginning (also because he always meets me in the middle of the street, where he sometimes pinches my cheeks, and always likes to speak with me a lot or ask me why I refuse to visit him), but beyond the question of why he says this word in Arabic - knowing I don't understand this language, I especially wonder: Why he says this word in a feminine form. I guess he knows I'm not a girl. Additionally, I have a boy's name he knows well: I know that because the "ya helwe" always follows my first name following "ya". I'm fairly sure my face doesn't look like a girl's one (I have a short haircut), so I thought to myself - maybe this word could refer also to boys. I looked up in some dictionaries, and found out it could also mean "candy", but then I noticed that the Arabic word for "candy" doesn't end with the Arabic letter "ta marbuta", so I realized there could be no justification for the last vowel "e" he used when he said the word, but I was not sure if my consideration was valid - because I'm not an Arabic speaker, and that was why I asked all of my questions at the Arabic reference desk.

Maybe, if he ever sees me once again and calls me by that feminine word, I'd better tell him explicitly I'm not a girl, in any case, he thinks I am.

If he is an old man, maybe he doesn't mean something ill. I heard once old people from Iraq saying this to younger guys (like their grandchildren or grandchildren's friends) and that was just a custom that might seem weird to other cultures, including other Arab people. Squeezing the cheek might not hold a negative meaning in the Arab/Middle eastern culture (it might be more common in certain places than others), especially if it happened from an old person, it might mean that this person thinks this young boy/girl is cute or sweet (no sexual intentions), and he would think it like: I'm like a grandfather to you. Anyway that's just taking different possibilities into consideration, if you don't like it just stick to what you are planning to say, and I'm sure u'll notice if there were any ill intentions. I see two pictures on your user page, and they are wonderful. Where are they located exactly? I have always admired the Islamic architecture. I'm also planning to study Arabic, because I love its accurate sound as well as it's morphology. Unfortunately I don't understand people who talk in Arabic yet, but I'm sure I will. Somebody told me in spoken (Palestinian) Arabic: ana biddi atwannas (Maybe he said: ana biddi aruḥ atwannas). I asked him what he meant by atwannas, so he answered: "travel". But when I looked it up on Google translator, I had a difficulty in finding that word, maybe because I didn't spell it well in Arabic scripts. Request for unblock on Arabic Wikipedia

Hello. On the Arabic Wikipedia, you blocked access to my talk page, which I need to be able to request an unblock. I know you think I am a troll on Arabic Wikipedia, but I am not. I have over 23,000 contributions on Wikimedia (21,000+ on English Wikipedia), so would you be willing to at least unblock my talk page access so I may be able to formally request an unblock? I do not wish to be a "single-purpose account". On the English Wikipedia article, a user brought up an NPOV issue on the talk page. I investigated and saw the issue of "Israel occupation army" rather than "Israel army" or, what I was attempting to change it do (using Google translate to help), "Israel Defense Forces". I brought it up two times on the Arabic-wiki article talk page, which went unnoticed. Even the editor who reverted my edits did not participate on the talk page, as I had done prior to reverting it. I am not a "single-purpose" account. I strive to improve all of Wikimedia, whether it is on the Commons, English Wikipedia, Spanish Wikipedia, or Arabic Wikipedia. I ask you to re-consider, please. You can see here ([2]) how I attempted to work with other editors on the article's talk page. Please, let me have a fair chance to appeal the block. I was not attempting to troll or vandalize anything. I think it is obvious that I am not a troll, given my attempts to communicate through the article's talk page as well as having 21,000+ contributions to the English Wikipedia and 2,000+ on the Commons. So please, I ask you to reconsider and give me a fair appeal chance, by unblocking my talk page and allowing me to submit a formal appeal on it. WeatherWriter (talk) 21:35, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

I just read the entirety of Wikipedia:Single-purpose account and it is perfectly allowed as long as I am not trolling/vandalizing the articles. I am not and I have been working for years now to better improve Wikipedia as a whole. Please, allow me to submit a formal appeal, by unblocking my talk page. May you please explain why you disabled his talk page access and email by default, which both seemingly go against the banning policy on AR wiki? The policy states that TP access shouldn't be taken away unless there is an abuse of talk page access by the blocked user and email shouldn't be taken away unless the editor is abusing that. In both cases, it states this should never be done by default. Why was he not warned and given the chance to cease and correct his behavior? Admin accountability is a key principle of wikipedia. You should be able to justify any action taken as an admin. Your editing here on multiple occasions while not responding to your talk page shows you are simply ignoring this and hoping everyone will just drop it.
