Question about signature

[edit]

Wouldn't make more sense if the "mail icon" emailed you rather than going to your Talk Page? – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 18:32, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but since I don't wish to add/receive email and currently icon also represents post/envelope so didn't seem wrong.~aanzx © 07:48, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Norwegian editathon for Indians

[edit]

Hello! Thank you for bringing to light and filling the much-needed gap in the article "भारत-नॉर्वे परियोजना" with a category of the same name.

I have tried reach the position of top contributor in the editation, but, sadly I feel sad that while I have to painstakingly be part of a daylong commitment to keep up with other contributors, I must admit that I am a bit surprised to see some contributors who only start their work in the evening and within a short time manage to accumulate 2000+ points. I wonder if this process is assisted by bot technology or some other automated tool. Whatever the case may be, I feel that further participation might not be as productive for me. Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from this point.

Sadly, I also find lamentable the delayed responses for the event organizers. Even interesting is the approach of Norwegian contributors to the India-editathon - forerunner and precursor of our editathon, which is sheepishly comparable to our highly enthusiastic and overzealous contributions. Muzammil (talk) 06:56, 26 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Hindustanilanguage: Thank you for your hard work, I also think that accumulating 1000+ points for an article is quite bad when you have 120+ articles with less points, I don't think any bot contributions happened but i noticed users are using pages with larger bytes to translate so that they can gain more points. Since you have contributed the most in the competition, please don’t stop—it’s good that someone from the Indian community is actively participating. This will encourage more communities to organize these types events in the future. --~aanzx · · © 07:14, 26 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:A826,

Thank you for your encouraging approach! The Kannada Wikipedia has truly supportive admins—like my former colleague Pavanaja—which perhaps explains why at least one user was able to secure third place.

On the other hand, Hindi Wikipedia has experienced editors like Sanjeev Kumar, but at times, minor issues can be magnified unnecessarily. For instance, in the discussion hi:विकिपीडिया:पृष्ठ हटाने हेतु चर्चा/लेख/नॉर्वेजियन सिनेमा, the use of the word "Norwegian" in the title was objected to and became the basis for nomination for deletion. While alternative suggestions like "Cinema of Norway" or "नॉर्वे का सिनेमा" were proposed, Prof. Sanjeev Kumar remained firm on his stance. He prefers to delete the writeup in entirety rather than reconcile with renaming.

Due to situations like this—and for strategic reasons—I’ve been exploring more opportunities to contribute to the Urdu Wikipedia. However, one of the challenges is that Urdu articles tend to have smaller byte-sizes, which impacted my final ranking despite active contributions. --Dr. Muzammil (talk) 17:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Above instance can also be unwelcoming to users and more likely new users to continue editing, some wikis have there own guidelines that are somewhat unreasonable. --A826 · · © 04:04, 5 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

[edit]

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.
