Image tags[edit]

Nice work - didn't realise there were so many **** ones about! Cheers --Herby talk thyme 18:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I think I'll be able to find some more problem images. Adambro 19:06, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA[edit]

Hi -- I'm following up on the oppose comments other have left.

Caveat: I'm not an admin here, en.wikipedia or anywhere else. I only have about 1000 edits here.

Meta really is different but it's hard to articulate how so and, maddeningly, little has been written down about this. As noted by Herby, vandalism is not a big deal here; instead, most work here consists of editing protected pages relating to very focused topics like spam, development, and things I don't even know about. The whole inclusion/deletion issue here is different, too. We're not really a "classic project" like Commons, Wikipedia, etc. -- we are a meta-project. Whatever the outcome of this RfA, I encourage you to connect with the editors leaving oppose comments to better understand how Meta is different; en.wikipedia admins that have not understood these differences have created problems in the past. I'm sure everyone of your oppose commenters would be happy to support you in the future with more experience.

Good luck whatever the outcome and let me know if there's anything I can do to help you around here.--A. B. (talk) 16:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S., please don't take any of the "oppose" comments to heart. It's not about you or about your overall wiki admin experience -- it's just about familiarity with this very different, yet important obscure little corner of the Wikimedia world. --A. B. (talk) 17:27, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Berto.jpg[edit]

Hi! I tried to state that I'm the owner and I release it under cc-by-sa, but I can't seem to locate the correct template (docs point users to en.wiki, but en.wiki templates are missing on meta). Let me know if there's something elese I can/shall do --Bèrto 'd Sèra 07:50, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki redirect for userpage[edit]

RfA[edit]

If you consider the guidelines at fault - fine & we should work on them. However in the end any "R f *" will depend on the community's wishes not the criteria or any qualifications gained elsewhere. Your request seemed largely framed around RC & images (and your work on this as an admin on Commons is not that extensive). In practice images tend to get deleted almost as they are uploaded and the relatively low traffic here means there is little to do and I did not see we required any more RC admins. Had the request be on the basis of having contributed for some time to say new & project closure or the interwiki map I would have been far more interested. Both are always in need of further assistance. I genuinely hope this comment will help you as obviously have much to offer the project, thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly appreciate you taking the time to discuss this with me and I understand your concerns but I'd disagree that there isn't an issue with images in particular. I've keep going through the images here and finding a large number missing the required info and then tagging with {{no source}} and contacting the uploader as appropriate. Eventually, an admin is going to have to work through these and I feel that I'd be able to make a good contribution towards dealing with such issues. I wouldn't really agree that we can have too many admins; providing the community is happy with each user on an individual basis then I feel they should be granted admin status and the number of admins shouldn't, in my view, play a part.
Regarding your other points, I'm grateful for you highlighting areas in which it might be worthwhile directing my attention and will take time to develop my understanding of these processes. Thanks. Adambro 12:20, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you will be interested in this but your comments made me think probably more so because they were rational and accompanied by support rather than anything else. I guess I would say that any Rf* is an offer to help more than a "request for something for me" in my view. I'm going to give it 24 hours but I assure you if the community is not interested I will withdraw and your comment will be quite a part of the reason. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:11, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the image[edit]

black bumper sticker image[edit]

Hi -- you deleted this image about a month ago (see my talk page for the URL). However, I don't usually log into meta, so I wasn't able to inform you about the license information. If you had checked my user page, you would have discovered that I created the image myself -- it's intended for a bumper sticker in the wikipedia Cafepress store. Cafepress doesn't allow full-size images on-site, so the store links to meta, where the images are stored. Could you please restore the image so that buyers can see it again? Thanks, Tlogmer 21:24, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry that your image was deleted. I tagged the image as missing required information and informed you of this but it was actually deleted by Anonymous Dissident on 17 November and since I'm not an admin on this wiki I cannot restore it so I'm afraid you'll have to discuss this with someone else. I cannot recall the exact circumstances which prompted me to consider it appropriate to tag this image but I again apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate you might not have got the message soon enough. You might wish to consider enabling the "E-mail me when my user talk page is changed" option of your preferences which would alert you to any new messages. This is a feature I find very useful on wikis where I am less active. Regards. Adambro 21:33, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that EVula has now restored this image. Adambro 21:40, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aphaia[edit]

Howdy Adambro,

Per Meta:Requests for adminship/Adambro 2‎, I understand your situation. As I have stated in her steward election, she had been hostile, often oppresive, to those who do not follow her. I have thought this was the problem in Japanese Wikipedia only, but now I found she is so in meta too. I could not vote support simply because I do not know you so much, but I wish your good luck in your RfA. Yassie 14:47, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stewards' temporary self-promotions without local traces[edit]

What exactly does "Temporary image review to facilitate my Commons administration" mean Jusjih? What is it you are giving yourself adminship with that comment to do? Is it deleted revisions which you're wanting to look at? Adambro 06:42, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As you and I both administer Wikimedia Commons, we may encounter images claimed to be transwikied from another Wiki site without all required attribution, such as missing usernames from the upstream images. I have seen some of them deleted from another Wiki sites whose administrators have not looked at the Commons pages carefully. As missing any required attribution could be a GFDL violation, looking at the deletion log would be the only way to know what happened exactly. If we do not act quickly, chances are that someone may have copied the Commons image description with the GFDL violation expanded off Wiki site.--Jusjih 15:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please see also Talk:Steward_policies#Changing_rights_in_own_wiki.3F where Rdsmith4 with more steward seniority than me has had a thought very different from Majorly's while I have never exercised any privileged actions that would leave local traces. I hope that I have explained everything to your satisfaction.--Jusjih 19:09, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Study Request[edit]

Hi Mr Adambro,

I m currently student researching on Wikipedia. However, i focus towards participants that have contributed in IT/Computer Science knowledge. I have send an email to a co-founder of wikipedia, Mr Wales, He suggesting that i request help from wikiresearch-l and prior to that I need to seek approval for request for survey. I have initally send out a email to wikipedia help and their suggestion was that I send messages to each individual(Got banned) for my account researchsocial. Image taggings[edit]

Hello Adambro,

Thank you for your recent image taggings. I notice that several uploaders were not contacted. If they're not aware that their images have been tagged, there's little chance that they'll provide the missing informations. So could please take the time to notify them? Thanks in advance, Korg 01:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay no problem. I'll look at making a template message or something to make this a quicker and easier process. Adambro 08:37, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

Adambro,

Could you please confirm that tickets have been created for the following images and applied to them? :)

What is involved in getting an OTRS account? Could you please give me some info on what is required and the procedure?

I scout a lot of images from Flickr, get the authors' permission, upload them to Wikimedia Commons and get them to send an OTRS email.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your message, I'm currently working through dealing with these issues and will get back to you. Adambro 21:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've now looked through each of these issues. I've found an email in OTRS granting permission to release all but one of these images and have therefore updated the image pages on Commons to confirm this. The one I can't locate an email for is Gary Fixler so if you could confirm an email has been sent into OTRS then that would be appreciated. It is important to note that in each case the permission received is limited to CC-BY-3.0 only and so I've removed the GFDL tag you put on the image pages along with the "self" template which implies that you release the image rather than someone else.
OTRS is a closed system restricted to experienced contributors to Wikimedia Foundation projects on a case by case basis. You'll find more information at OTRS.
Thanks for your hard work in getting these images released. Regards. Adambro 22:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Although you providing the email addresses was extremely helpful in tracking down the emails in OTRS, I've removed these from this page as these people might not be happy with these been publicly available and at risk from being picked up by spammers. I'd suggest sending such information by email in future rather than posting them on wiki. Cheers. Adambro 22:14, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got Gary Fixler to send the authorization, could you check please? Cheers. Jason7825 08:51, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks this has been received now and I'll deal with it later today. I note that the image page again incorrectly has {{self|GFDL|cc-by-3.0}} whereas it should, according to the permission granted in the email, be only {{cc-by-3.0}}. If you think there might be other images with this problem then please amend them as appropriate. Thanks. Adambro 09:22, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a page or a body that I can request to have OTRS certificates applied to images? I've uploaded more images and they haven't had their certificate applied. Jason7825 05:51, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Replied regarding this query and another issue via email. Adambro 08:29, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS for three images[edit]

Hello, I am presently working on the Wikipedia article w:Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, which is under review for GA. The reviewer was concerned that three of the images have not had their OTRS permission confirmed: w:Image:Stanley Theatre (2).JPG, w:Image:Stanley dome.JPG and w:Image:Stanley Theatre at night.jpg. re ncr edits[edit]

Hello there

this page is being deleted by NCR Media in accordance with our policys, we hoold the rights to this content, and the CEO of zteknologies has made request that we remove all content from this domain

the reason behind this stems from abuse of our company and slanderous changes which we no longer wish to have, plus that and the fact that wikiversity is running UNPORTECTED articles which can and are modified by any user quite innapropriately

thanks for your time and please be advised any attempts to REPUBLISH these pages will be a copyright violation and we will pursue legal remedys against wikiversity if this should occur! — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.210.94.24 (talk) 19:26, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. What you say are hard words. The user at English Wikiversity was emailed to get further info. The problem could now be that anyone registers under an account and tells something. Could you please help us by sending further info/proof to the OTRS team (email on that page) or to Wikimedia Foundation, so they might review this ? Thanks for your cooperation. ----Erkan Yilmaz 20:46, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought with your experience with image-related matters and policies on other projects you would be interested in helping provide input on this one. Cheers, Cirt 19:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. You might like to look at Meta:Fair use which I was recently involved in. Adambro 19:22, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah okay will do, thanks. Any help/input you could provide at this new proposed-policy page would of course be most appreciated. Cirt 19:24, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

permissions for uploading pictures[edit]

Hi Adambro, I'm Diky, a new french user on french Wiki. I have permissions or licence problems when i want to upload VERY OLD PHOTOS, older than 80 years for most of them. I'm not so good in english to understand all the templates. So i don't know how to manage. I'm creating new french pages about karate, and i would to make them nice with some pictures of elder great masters. I found on different internets sites the pictures i needed on that purpose. I know that all these picture were made before 1930, some much before. I think , they don't need any permission or licence. I don't understand how to manage. Can you help me, please?

I have another problem: I have an account created on the french wiki, and it does'nt work, either on Commons either here, when i want to login with it. I had to create a new account each time. I find somwehere that we can have only one account for all the Wikis , but i'm not sure i understood well, and if it's real, please help me if possible to solve this problem too. I would like to use my french account on all the wikis, because it is easier for me, to remember it.

If you know french enough, to help me in french, i'll be glad. My english is good enough for usual talk, but not more.

French Diky

Post tetra page : mistake[edit]

Hello,

I was trying to use mediawiki on my PC. I have looked in helps link to see how to create a new. but I have make a mistake between the browser with my local wiki and the browser with mediawiki.org. So I create a useless page named "Post Tetra" on mediawiki.org instead of my local wiki.

Can you delete it ?

PS : I'm really sorry to have put stupid stuff in your work.

Wikimedia Delete log suggests that Annonymous Dissident deleted the archiverbot.py file back in August.[edit]

This user was caught in the Abuse-Log a number of times earlier in the year for moving templates en-mass. I know you from en.Wikiversity or en.Wikibooks. Since the Archivebot for Wikiversity is broken, I was going to study up on bots, in the hopes of getting it working again. The Archivebot on Wikibooks is still working, so it is either an update of the software or wasn't dependent on the original archivebot.py image. Do you have the rights to look into this deletion at this late date, and possibly revert it? Please contact me at en.Wikiversity if you do.--Graeme E. Smith 03:28, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Getting OTRS permission[edit]

Can you enlighten me as to how I can do this?

I am currently not registered on OTRS, nor can I work out how to do so.

You can reply to me on adbanno@yahoo.co.uk.

Global CSS/JS migration[edit]

Hello Adambro. You have a global.js page which contains your global scripts for all wikis. Since August 19th, your global.js and global.css pages are now automatically loaded on all wikis (see announcement). Since you were already loading them before this feature, you may experience script errors or issues like tools being added twice. I can fix that for you by merging your local scripts and styles into your global pages, and deleting the local pages with synchbot. Do you want me to do that? —Pathoschild 20:53, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi again! Feel free to add a Synchbot request or leave a message if you want me to do this; for now I'll strike you off the list. :) —Pathoschild 21:06, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
