From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Presenting Community Engagement Insights survey report: Tuesday, October 10, 1600 UTC[edit]

Hi Anthere/archives16,
I am reaching out to you because you signed up to receive updates about the Global Wikimedia survey.[1]

We will be hosting a public event online to present the data, a few examples on how teams will be using it for annual planning, and what are next steps for this project. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 9:00 am PST (1600 UTC), and the presentation will be in English. You can watch the livestream here, and ask question via IRC on #wikimedia-office.

If you are unable attend, you can also find the report on meta, and watch the recording of the event at a later time.

We hope to have you join us online!

Pamputt (talk) 22:23, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

forums[edit]

Hi. I reverted your edits at Talk:OTRS because that talk page does not exist for you to complain. I recommend you take it to Wikimedia Forum; I see you've already made your complaint elsewhere, too. Please remember that talk pages apply to discussing the subject. If you don't like how a policy is being handled on meta, honestly, you may as well just give up. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:09, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why wouldn't that be the appropriate place to raise a concern? It's a concern about an OTRS policy being applied, and was made on the OTRS talk page. Seems reasonable to me. – Ajraddatz (talk) 02:14, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
for user:Chris Troutman. That is right. The talk page of OTRS seems the right place to me. Not the Wikimedia Forum. Anthere (talk) 11:51, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template Wizard script available for testing[edit]

Hello. I'm contacting you because you voted for the Infobox Wizard in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey.

The Infobox Wizard has gotten an upgrade - it's now a Template Wizard which works for infoboxes and all other templates. The feature is being developed as an extension (which will allow for localization) but there is a prototype user script which works well.

The Wishlist Team would love it if you could take a few minutes to try the Template Wizard prototype script out and give us feedback on whether it lives up to your expectations. This feedback will help build the script into an extension. To get started, add the following to your Special:MyPage/common.js -

mw.loader.load( 'https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Samwilson/TemplateWizard.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript' );

The Template Wizard will show up as a puzzle-piece icon in the 2010 WikiEditor. You can click on the icon to insert a template. Your thoughts are needed on whether it makes sense for the wizard to be available for all users by default or if there should be a preference for it. If it's a preference, what should the default be? Please leave your feedback here. Thank you! -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:42, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Africa DRC[edit]

Hi!

For the first time our user group want to take part of the photo challenge. We expect to work with a local association of photographers. I have spent some hours to try to understancd how WLA works but I still have some questions:

  • is there a general rule for the jury to select the best photo?
  • for international participation, the country will only send the 3 best photos?
  • for participants, is there a maximum or minimum number of photos to upload?

--BamLifa (talk) 12:25, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

C'est une bonne idée de participer ! Tout niveau ok !

Recommandation :

  • imprimer quelques dépliants si tu as quelques sous
  • si tu as un peu plus de sous... imprimer un kakemono (tu peux t'inspirer de celui là - demande la version modifiable à Isla)
  • si les sous sont rares, imprime quelques stickers. C'est peu cher et les gens aiment bien.

Anthere (talk)

and more specifically

  1. is there a general rule for the jury to select the best photo?

See links agbove

  1. for international participation, the country will only send the 3 best photos?

It is not yet defined how it will work. For now... go ahead... grab pictures, upload pictures... and at some point... it will be decided :)

  1. for participants, is there a maximum or minimum number of photos to upload?

Sure not. Just anything that makes sense and can be useful. Just avoid uploading 50 nearly identical version of a picture. Focus on good quality, good description, good categorization. But if someone is super productive, so be it ! Anthere (talk)

Your grant requestion for Mobile Learning Week[edit]

Hi!

While I was browsing micro-fi of WMFr I was curious to read you request. But I have noticed that your rapid grant request status is still under draft which means that it can't be reviewed. --BamLifa (talk) 22:44, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BamLifa. Thank you for the note. I think it is fine. I (Anthere) asked for a microfi from Wikimedia France to pay the train to go there. This is a confirmed request (WM FR told me it was under review). At the same time, Isla posted a rapid grant request to WMF so that SHE can go there as well. Indeed, this one is still draft. To be fair... I think this request will go nowhere. I still have a rapid grant request posted in November 2018, that has neither been approved, nor even reviewed. Rapid Grants currently take 3 or more months to be dealt with. Given that the Mobile Week is early March... this is really optimistic to think anyone will review it on time. Eh. I trust way more Wikimedia France to help me in paying that train ticket ;) Anthere (talk) 11:01, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hope that WMFr will do it quickly. Rapid grants at WMF take more time nowadays you can't imagine. I have submitted a rapid grant since november, it is just now it is funded (but still waiting for the international transaction).--BamLifa (talk) 13:17, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WikiChallenge African Schools[edit]

I see that WikiChallenge African Schools 2019 has started. There some new contries involved but mine (DRC). I'd like to know what are criteria to take part of this challenge. --BamLifa (talk) 13:28, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Criterias include
  1. being a francophone country in Africa
  2. being a primary school
  3. being a school part of the Digital School Network of Orange Foundation (which somewhat brings a lot of restrictions... but is a rule first because OF funds the project and second because it would be very difficult to implement anyway without a prime access to the schools
  4. that the local Orange Foundation team agree to join the contest (for example, this year, we asked Ivory Coast and they declined).

@BamLifa This is quite a bunch of rules indeed. I am hoping that somehow, with WikiAfrica Schools, we could find a way to fund a similar effort that would be fully open to any schools. That would be absolutely awesome. But then... for this to happen, we need 1) to find funding and 2) to partner with education networks. If you have any suggestions on how to achieve that, my ears are completely open. We could also start smaller in one country, then expend pending opportunities. But bottom line... it takes energy and time, so it needs funding and it needs dedicated people. I'd love it though. Anthere (talk)

@Anthere I see that the big problem is funding. I'd suggest WikiAfrica to run a small pilot project in my country or elsewhere with one or 2 schools and see what will be the outcome. About education network, I am in full contact with the authorities of education in my town. Another idea would be to prepare together a project grant for that in the first round 2019. --BamLifa (talk) 13:30, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Those are good news. We can brainstorm on the topic and draft something. We have not done anything in RdC yet. Perhaps we can launch a pilote next year. With regards to WMF funding, we have no idea when the next round of funding will be. It could be next summer or it could be end of 2019. Let's have a skype one of those days ? Anthere (talk)
Is it possible to have a call this week? I am not at all conftable with skype or hangout. Can we use framatalk?--BamLifa (talk) 08:03, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have never used framatalk... give me some time to look at it and see how it works... In any cases, next week sounds better to me... Anthere (talk)
No matter. Tell me when you're ready. Framatalk is not all difficult to use. --BamLifa (talk) 14:27, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
