Change to WMDE's proposal form[edit]

Hello, Asaifm:

First, thank you for your close attention to WMDE's proposal form. While we appreciate that the edits you made were good changes, we can't leave any changes to FDC proposal forms after the submission deadline unless they are requested by the entity submitting the proposal and approved in writing by FDC Staff. We generally only allow changes that clarify the proposal significantly or correct factual errors, even in those cases. We know this not the way things are usually done on Wiki, but we've found it is the best way to keep the proposal process fair for everyone. We hope you continue to engage in the FDC proposal process, and are always welcome to feedback or questions about this policy or any other.

Thanks again! Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 16:22, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider not translating Tech News in protest[edit]

Hi Asaifm, I have just noticed that you've been working on the translation of Tech News this weekend.

I wanted to ask you to consider refraining from translating such pages to avoid supporting the recent actions of the Wikimedia Foundation. On Sunday, they have implemented a change that gives them an unprecedented, unilateral and unlimited power to protect certain pages on Wikimedia wikis in a manner that makes it impossible for all volunteers — including locally elected administrators — to edit them.

The change was secretly forced through without any community consultation, and the Foundation have used this new feature to actively fight the volunteer community of the German Wikipedia.

Your volunteer translations directly sustain such actions of the Foundation. Your work helps them save time and effort that they would otherwise have to invest in recruiting, training and managing new employees, and saves them money they would otherwise have to spend on professional translations.

The recent actions of the Wikimedia Foundation make it very clear that they no longer respect the wishes of the volunteer community, and that they no longer consider us an equal partner. The least we can do to voice our dismay at those actions, and to support our colleagues on the German Wikipedia, is to stop investing our precious time as volunteers on directly helping the Wikimedia Foundation. We can instead translate pages which help all wiki users.

Please take a minute to consider withdrawing your help for the Foundation in protest against their disrespectful treatment of the volunteer community of the German Wikipedia.

Thank you for your time and your consideration! odder (talk) 18:10, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Odder: Thanks for your notification. I'm already on your side and I've notified my community a couple of days ago. I'm ready to sign any petition. However, stopping the Tech News translation when there are a considerable number of subscribers from my community should come with a strong reason. And I should be able to defend my action. Here is what is stopping me from doing what you asked: The community needs to understand why the admins of the German Wikipedia blocked محمد الفلسطيني, a bureaucrat and a sysop on the Arabic Wikipedia; and ASammour, a sysop on the Arabic Wikipedia. Help me provide answers. From our side, the first user was blocked after adding a picture to the article Operation Protective Edge. As for the second user, he was blocked after asking for the reason upon which the first user was blocked and why wasn't he given a warning beforehand. Asaifm (talk) 18:52, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Asaifm: I will try to get more information on these blocks; I'll contact the German Wikipedia administrators to get the reasons behind the blocks, and will get back to you. (Not that it has anything to do with Tech News.) Thanks! odder (talk) 09:02, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Odder: Thanks for your help! Yes, it has nothing to do with Tech News. It has to do with me being able to stand up for my action and not feel guilty or get into side discussions that deter from the main cause. Tech News is currently a pressure card to force the Foundation revert the patch and rollback the action taken on the German Wikipedia. Problem is that two admins on the German Wikipedia blocked two admins from the Arabic Wikipedia without having any discussions or providing a warning. And I did not ask you to lift the ban. I asked for your help to provide an explanation. The community wants to remedy that situation once and for all. Asaifm (talk) 16:55, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Should FuzzyBot remove all potentially outdated translations?[edit]

Hello, thanks for adding multiple new translations in your language here at Meta-Wiki in recent years. Please join the discussion with your opinion: Should FuzzyBot automatically remove all potentially outdated translations?. Nemo (talk) 12:00, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
