Top volunteer code contributors - thank you and a question

[edit]

Hi! I'm Selena Deckelmann, CPTO at the WMF. I am reaching out to top volunteer code contributors -- thank you so much for your contributions! Would you be open to a real time chat, voice or video meeting in the next few weeks? I would love to know more about your volunteer work, and would love to hear any feedback you have for me or the WMF more broadly. Let me know! SDeckelmann-WMF (talk) 22:35, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@SDeckelmann-WMF given that I prefer not to reveal anything about my identity I'd rather not do a voice or video meeting, but I should be available on IRC around midnight UTC most days next week if that works for you. --DannyS712 (talk) 22:58, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the reply! I'd be happy to connect on IRC around that time, and I really appreciate it. Monday, Thursday and Friday look like my best days around that time next week, and I'll just reach out to see if you're available then. SDeckelmann-WMF (talk) 00:44, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can you please protect my user and TP pages please? I would appreciate it. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:04, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb just to clarify you want your enwikiversity user and user talk pages protected, not the ones on this wiki? --DannyS712 (talk) 21:07, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
At this time yes please. I’m sure others will roll in soon enough. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:10, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb actually after looking in the history, its just the one disruptive edit so I don't think protection is called for at this point, sorry --DannyS712 (talk) 21:26, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
No worries. It’s an ongoing issue at my home wiki that’s why I have it there. I’ll let you know if it happens again. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:31, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Creating a New Course

[edit]

Greetings,

Hope all is well. I am new to Wikiversity and am trying to understand the workings of it all. I am a student research assistant to a prof and will be posting his course published on the German Wikiversity onto the English one (in English of course).

I have 2 requests and would greatly appreciate your support:

When I tried to post the first page, it blocked me with the following messages: "This action has been automatically identified as potentially harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: New User Exceeded New Page Limit" "This action has been automatically identified as potentially harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: New User Created Page with External Link"

And my other question is on how the course can have full protection with my username and my professor's to be added as admin.

Thank you in advance for your support and guidance UniBambergIslamicStudies (talk) 12:52, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@UniBambergIslamicStudies it looks like the filters you tripped are based around new page creations, you should be able to edit existing pages - I would suggest posting on v:Wikiversity:Colloquium to get help, since I'm not very active on wikiversity --DannyS712 (talk) 16:03, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your prompt response. Posted there. All the best UniBambergIslamicStudies (talk) 12:45, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

[edit]

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.
