The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support[edit]

Globe of letters.png

Hello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

User script to view subcategories[edit]

Hi DannyS712,

If you remember, you participated in the 2019 Community Wishlist Survey, including the discussion for a button to easily view subcategories (Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Categories/Button to show subcategories).

I sent you this MassMessage because I wanted to let you know that I have made a user script to do this.

If you are interested in using it, just add mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:DannyS712/Subcategories.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); to your global javascript page, or to your wiki-specific common.js page. This imports the code at m:User:DannyS712/Subcategories.js.

If you want to learn more, there is documentation for the script available at w:en:User:DannyS712/Subcategories. If you would like to discuss the script, talk to me at m:User talk:DannyS712.

Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 00:51, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

  • Hi I have installed your script, but I do not see anything new. Alexei Kopylov (talk) 04:46, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
    • @Alexei Kopylov: if you go to a category page, there should be a button labeled "Subcategories" - what skin do you use? --DannyS712 (talk) 04:58, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
      • Hi @Alexei Kopylov:, with the default skin, the link appears in the menu containing the rename page link in my configuration. In the Timeless skin, the link appears in the first section on right of the page.
        • Ok, I found the link, but it does not do anything. Alexei Kopylov (talk) 17:42, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
      • But for me, these links doesn't do nothing. When I click on it, no action is thrown. I'm using Firefox (an old version - 52 - due to my company restrictions). I will try on my own computer this evening. Jpgibert (talk) 08:01, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
          • For me, the console of firebug is empty. Nothing is thrown when I click on link. Only a message in status bar appears indicating "javascript:void(0)". Just one thing, the menu is not hidden after clicking on link in default skin. I don't know if it can help you. Jpgibert (talk) 09:32, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
        • Hi DannyS712. Would it be possible to have a screenshot of the expected result, because I don't see any change in my interface ? Thank you. BluesyPete (talk) 08:47, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Does this help you? -- Lord van Tasm (talk) 06:28, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Not really, I get the first 2 alerts too, but none of the others, and I get them without the script too:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed with logging active, version 3.0.1
VM216:420 This page is using the deprecated ResourceLoader module "jquery.throttle-debounce".
Please use OO.ui.throttle/debounce instead. See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T213426
So I have no idea what could be causing it. I'll try to look into it, but can you uninstall my script and see if the warnings go away? --DannyS712 (talk) 06:32, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Then it looks like this:

Jpgibert comments[edit]

Hi DannyS712,

I tried to execute the test on my personal computer. Fail.

I tried to understand the problem. I launched the debugger on the script with a break point. The script is correctly executed (good thing).

So, I viewed the source code of the page in debugger and I saw that the content of the title attribute of the element having for class CategoryTreeToggle (the element searched by the script I think) is développer (in french, because it is my default language) instead of expand. When the category is expanded, the title element contains replier instead of collapse.

I think that is the origin of the problem on my side. I hope this information can help you to improve your script.

Jpgibert (talk) 18:25, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

@Jpgibert: yes, it does! Thank you so much. Now I just need to figure out how to internationalize it. --DannyS712 (talk) 18:28, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Update[edit]

@Lord van Tasm, BluesyPete, Jpgibert, and Alexei Kopylov: It should work now --DannyS712 (talk) 20:12, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

It works fine for me, thanks a lot for your work. Jpgibert (talk) 07:43, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Now it works on Wikipedia.en and Wikipedia.fr... but (sob) the button title is not translated on the French interface ("Subcategories" instead of "Sous-catégories") on Wikipedia.fr !!! Thank you. BluesyPete (talk) 08:51, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
@BluesyPete: sorry --DannyS712 (talk) 15:54, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
