Hi! Question about "Powered by Zoom" watermark on "Wikimedia Foundation" channel
[edit]Hi Eliza! Nice to meet you! I'm writing to you because the kind User:AKlapper (WMF) tried to help me in triaging this issue: phabricator:T293911. In short, I'm trying to figure out how to remove the terrible "Powered by Zoom" watermark on YouTube videos released by Wikimedia Foundation. Am I contacting the right person? If not, do you know who I could ask to discuss this? Thank you so much Eliza! --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 13:16, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Valerio! Forgive the delay. We looked into the Zoom streaming watermark when this issue was first identified to see what could be done. The watermark cannot be removed when using the “stream to YouTube” feature, which allows us to simultaneously stream a Zoom meeting to our YouTube channel. However, we were able to find a way to make the watermark much smaller than the default so that it is not as prominent in our recordings (https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360000921326-Custom-live-streaming-watermark). We do have an Enterprise account, but this is the maximum customization allowed. For important meetings like the ones you’ve listed, we opted for Zoom Enterprise with a YouTube stream because it ensures security, reliability and controls while allowing people to easily stream and access videos after the fact. The Wikimania recording you linked to without a watermark wasn’t from Zoom, it was done through StreamYard. For many other streams on our channel without a watermark, we’ve used an open source tool, which is typically our default and what we aim to use whenever possible.
- Also to note, the TL;DR is that we use the built-in "stream to YouTube" feature for ease-of-use, but it was also a necessity during the pandemic due to lack of access to AV gear in the office. We tried to get rid of the watermark, and were able to minimize it, but not get rid of it entirely. EBarrios (WMF) (talk) 02:40, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
