CentralNotice statuses

[edit]

Hello Haytham abulela and thanks for helping to translate Wikimania 2010/CentralNotice into ar/العربية! However, it looks like you forgot to update the translation status template. If you forget to update the status, then we won't see your translation update and it won't get done. :-( Here are the statuses that you need to know:

  • needs proofreading – when the message has been translated, but it needs proofreading by speakers of the language
  • needs updating – we use this to tell the translators that the source translation was updated and now the translation needs to be updated too
  • ready – you guys use this to tell us that the translation is ready to be published
  • published – we use this to tell you that the translation has been published

If you update a translation after it was already published, please make sure to change the status back to "ready" again too.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Thanks again for your translation help and sorry for the confusion! Cbrown1023 talk 23:59, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

This barnstar is given to you for your help with the 2011 fundraiser translation.

Hi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.

And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.

Again, thanks for your help with translations – you're awesome! Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 13:29, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your translations

[edit]

Dear Haytham abulela:

Thank you for helping to translate the WMF Grants and Participation Support program pages on Meta. Thanks to your efforts, these programs will be accessible to more people all over the world. We would like to send you something in appreciation of your work, so please contact us by Email at grants at wikimedia dot org with your name, shirt size (optional), address for delivery (not a PO Box), and telephone number (for delivery).

We would also like to let you know that our programs are growing and we will need to make some significant changes to these program pages in the next few weeks. When this happens, these pages may need to be retranslated, although much of the new text will be identical or similar to the text you've already translated: you've already translated this text, so you'd be able to copy and paste much from your existing translation. Please consider continuing to support the movement's work in this area, and please continue to let your multilingual friends and colleagues know that this support is still needed as our programs grow!

Please also let us know if you have any feedback for us: it's always welcome.

With appreciation,

Wolliff (talk) 16:35, 14 August 2012 (UTC) (on behalf of the Wikimedia Grants Team)Reply

Please fill out our brief Participation Support Program survey

[edit]

Hello, the Wikimedia Foundation would like your feedback on the Participation Support Program! We have created a brief survey to help us better understand your experience participating in the program and how we can improve for the future. You are being selected to participate in our survey because you submitted or commented on Participation Support requests in the past.

Click here to be taken to the survey site.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. We really appreciate your feedback! And we hope to see you in the Participation Support Program again soon.

Happy editing,

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:47, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)Reply

Support and Safety training modules

[edit]

Hey there, Haytham abulela. I am sorry for writing in English. Thank you so much for helping to translate the Support and Safety training modules into Arabic. Your work is so important – these modules will not be nearly as effective if they are only available in English. Since the modules are now mostly translated, it would be great if they could be added somewhere on the Arabic projects so that others can access them. Do you know of anywhere that might be suitable? Translation request for New Readers Inspire Campaign-- and thanks!

[edit]

Hi there! I'm contacting you because you've volunteered your time in the past to help translate Inspire Campaigns, or you've expressed an interest about helping to translate. We have a new campaign starting soon about new readers, as we try to encourage contributors to develop ideas on how to inform and invite people to use Wikipedia, especially in places where folks are not aware of it. There are two pages that will need translation:

There will be one additional page for translation that includes the questions we will be asking idea creators when they submit ideas for the campaign. I will notify you when that prose is ready.

Finally, thank you for your support; it's very important to me that these campaigns are accessible to folks across non-English Wikimedia projects, and I wouldn't be able to do that without your time and effort. In appreciation, I'd like to send you a postcard from Chicago where I reside. If you'd like to receive a postcard from me, please e-mail me with an address I contact you at to my work e-mail, cschilling(_AT_)wikimedia.org. I realize this is private information, so if you would prefer not to receive a postcard, that is understandable. Your work to make our projects accessible to everyone is no less appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions about the prose regarding translation. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 20:33, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health

[edit]

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the Months of African Cinema last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000. About 9 in-person events were also organised for the edit-a-thon in different parts of the world.

The contest is organized by a Wikimedia project called The AfroCine Project, which is dedicated to improving the coverage of the history, works, people, places, and events, that are associated with the cinema, theatre and arts of Africa, African countries, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

If you would love to join this exciting event, please list your username as a participant on the English Wikipedia contest page. If you would love to lead this contest for your country or community, please list your name in the coordinators' page here. The rapid grants team would be accepting proposals throughout October and November, in case you'd need funds to run local edit-a-thons or some other activities related to this event. Upon listing your name on the coordinators' page, you'd be contacted to talk about the resources you'd need to run the event in your community. You can also contact me directly for any clarifications.

Finally, We also need volunteers to handle some aspects of the AfroCine project. These aspects include:

  1. Community Liaison: This role essentially involves closely engaging with local communities to support their activities within the scope of Afrocine.
  2. Communications: This involves the communications aspects of the project. Sharing relevant information on mailing lists and social media would be the responsibility of this person.
  3. MAC Jury: This role involves joining the jury of Months of African Cinema contest. We need as many people as we can get 🙂.
  4. Tools: Going forward, we would need relevant tools to better track the metrics and also analyse the general impact of these events. We are calling for Wikimedia volunteers who can navigate wikimedia tools that can be useful for the project.

If you would love to help with any of these roles, or some other roles that have not been mentioned, please contact me directly or on: samoye_(_AT_)hotmail.com

If you have further questions, complaints, suggestions, etc., please reach out to me personally or right here or the project talkpages.

Thank you!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 17:10, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 needs translations

[edit]

Hello!

I'm contacting you because you've already translated some messages for the Community Wishlist Survey. We need more translations for the 2020 edition, to create a survey that would serve as many users as we know.

The list below shows our needs by order of importance (most important first):

  1. The invitation sent to communities. It summarizes the process. We plan to distribute it soon on this year target wikis. The more translations we have, the better!
  2. The form for non-English speakers. Anyone should be able to add their wish, no matter which language they speak. Translating this short form is very important to encourage diversity and equity.
  3. The survey itself, where the entire process is described.
  4. The preload form, that provides more context on existing wishes.

Some languages are already covered (maybe by you), but some messages have been updated, and there is always some room for reviewing and polishing messages.

Thank you in advance for your help! This survey can't be successful without your assistance. :)

A Community Wishlist Survey update waiting for translation

[edit]

Hello! Would you be able to translate the newest update about the Community Wishlist Survey 2022? In short: instead of November 2021, the CWS will happen in January 2022. We would also like to make other improvements. We can't do that without having the volunteers' opinions. This is what we ask for in the message.

After the weekend, I'll send this to all Village Pumps, Cafes, Forums, etc. Our team would like as many people as possible not to ignore this message. Let's remove the language barrier.

Thank you! SGrabarczuk (WMF) 01:29, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Could you take a glance at this translation?

[edit]

Hi, I hope you're doing well. Thank you for all the work you do to make the information available to the Arabic Wikimedia community.

If you have a few minutes, would it be possible for you to glance at mw:Wikimedia Apps/Team/Android/Communication/UsertestingOctober2021/ar and figure out if it's a reasonable translation of mw:Wikimedia Apps/Team/Android/Communication/UsertestingOctober2021? /Julle (talk) Johan (WMF) (talk) 13:41, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Julle Reviewed and edited where needed. Was it necessary not to mark the page for translation and rather do it manually? I think it would have been better managed if marked for translation. Haytham Abulela talk 23:14, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
(Apparently I asked with my volunteer account. My apologies! It was meant to come from this account.)
Thank you! The person uploading the translation had a hard time uploading an existing translation using the Translate tool the last time, and was very anxious to go with this solution instead this time, but I've added "make it easier for others to fix things" to the list of reasons to use the Translate extension. Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa

[edit]
The African Narrative
The African Narrative

Dear Wikimedian,

The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.

The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.

The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.

All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors.

Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.

Feel free to share with an Egyptian or Senegalese Wikipedian as well.

Thank you.

Hello @Danidamiobi, unfortunately I am not based in Egypt. If you need help with translations from English to Arabic or from Arabic to English, do not hesitate to reach out to me. Wish you and The Africa Narrative team success in achieving your goals. Haytham Abulela talk 11:04, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fake discussions

[edit]

Would you please consider translating Help:Sample discussion into Arabic for me? It would be helpful to me to have even part of the page translated into Arabic.

The goal is to have a page for testing mw:Talk pages project/Usability. I want Arabic speakers to test these designs, but, of course, it would be a poor test if they are looking at English text and trying to guess what it would look like in Arabic.

These are supposed to be normal talk-page conversations. The translation does not have to be exact. It could even be a little funny or silly, as long as it can be recognized as a conversation that might happen at the Arabic Wikipedia. I would also like my fake "editors" to have Arabic names. (Don't worry about the dates. They have to be dates that the test wiki understands, so I will have to talk to the devs about that.)

Thank you for considering my request. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:21, 9 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thanks a lot for translating this announcement: User:Johanna_Strodt_(WMDE)/Template_announcements_bundle_2-rtl/ar! I just had to change the deployment date in the text from April 26 to May 10. Is there any chance you could update that one text snippet before Friday, 9 am UTC? That would be really helpful. -- Best, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 19:02, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Johanna Strodt (WMDE). This user page was on my watchlist, so I saw your message. I've translated the pages (1, 2) for the Turkish language. Best, --Victor Trevor (talk) 21:27, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I need the help of a translationadmin in moving a page

[edit]

Dear Haytham,

How is your day going? I don't mean to take so much of your time. I raised a little issue on Babylon's Talk and would be so lucky to have you help out. Thank you Danidamiobi (talk) 22:16, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Danidamiobi, Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I have obtained translation administrator rights in a limited capacity: to upload translations only. I see that the request has been done. Best of luck. Haytham Abulela talk 15:23, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Translation help - message changed

[edit]

Hi, Haytham. Thanks for your help with the message at Private Incident Reporting System/Announcements/PIRS MVP FAQ is available (and all your help, everywhere!). I've made 2 small tweaks to that (I added a header, and simplified the 1st sentence). My apologies for the late change. I'm hoping you might be able to update it before I send it on Monday? Much thanks, as always. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 20:23, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you again

Translations are important for including everyone.

Thank you for translating Access to temporary account IP addresses FAQ for me.  Would you please also consider translating foundation:Policy:Access to temporary account IP addresses?  I really appreciate your help. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Good day. Can you check the edits of this user? thanks in advance. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 04:00, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Most edits follow the same pattern of User:Genter Peter Michael, who was blocked after being flagged. See Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat/Archives/2024-06 New translations seem to be machine translations that lack punctuation marks. Most likely spam.
