Web2Cit improvements

Web2Cit template paths

Hi @Runolist! Thank you for being a Web2Cit contributor!

Some translation templates you have worked on may need attention. Could you help us fix them?

Translation templates should be based on specific webpages and ideally should have corresponding translation tests indicating the expected output. This is important for maintainability, so other contributors can understand why a template has been set in some way, and so the Web2Cit Monitor can detect when citations break.

We found some templates for paths that do not have a corresponding test. This is usually because the path is generic (i.e., not corresponding to a specific webpage of interest; e.g., / or /**), or simply because a translation test hasn't been defined for that path.

Here's a list of domain configurations you have contributed to, and corresponding template paths for which no tests have been defined. Other editors may have contributed to these files as well and they will or have been notified too.

To help us, for as many of these paths as you can, could you please make sure:

1. that it corresponds to a specific webpage of interest, and
2. that a corresponding translation test has been defined?

Hi @Runolist! Sorry, the message above was automated and I have just noticed Web2Cit is actually having trouble dealing with two of the URLs mentioned:

• https://registar.kulturnadobra.hr/#/details/Z-3920: because of the website using # to decide what page to show (instead of what part of the page), and
• https://web2cit.toolforge.org/https://snl.no/gl%C3%B8gg: because of the non-ASCII character in the URL.

I will look into these and try to find a solution myself. The other two, if you could take a look at them, awesome.

@Diegodlh Thanks for the messages! I've created tests for the two, hopefully all will work now. Making the tests mandatory is definitely helpful, especially for people like me who rarely work with Web2Cit and have to relearn much of the process each time. As for snl.no, we could simply replace the path with something like https://snl.no/ugler – unless that would still mean that working with non-ASCII URLs doesn't work? ☀ Rȕnolīst | ^þⰁ_č 08:23, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

I rushed to say Web2Cit wasn't handling special characters correctly. Apparently it is :). It was just the script that I used to detect these template paths without matching test paths that wasn't handling them right.

So we have full test coverage for aktivnosti.zagreb.hr, snl.no & zagreb.hr now. Great! Diegodlh (talk) 15:19, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

Hey, @Runolist! I've finally decided that Web2Cit should no longer ignore URL fragments from target, template and test paths. The full reasoning behind this choice can be found in phab:T430885. Changes are ready and only pending to be deployed along with other changes in a few weeks.

In the meantime, if you could please replace the generic test for path / in domain registar.kulturnadobra.hr with a more specific test for path /#/details/Z-3920, that would be great: https://web2cit.toolforge.org/https://registar.kulturnadobra.hr/. Changes won't show yet in the translation summary page, but configuration will be saved.
