Other: ...

Hello Hoo, when I block someone without selecting one of the pre-defined block reasons "Other:" is added, see for example this block log. I'm not sure, but it might be related to User:Snowolf/GS delete.js. Can you please fix this? Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 18:17, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the notice, I didn't test this enough... Done - Hoo man (talk) 18:28, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's certainly better, but now it adds a smiley (i.e., a colon and a space). See the entry of '18 jan 2013 20:34' in this block log. Mathonius (talk) 19:37, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hoo User Page Bot at Wikivoyage (en)

Hello. I'm just informing you that Hoo User Page Bot on English Wikivoyage has been blocked. All scripts on Wikivoyage (en) must be nominated and approved before they may be used. Please see: Wikivoyage:Script nominations to nominate your bot and Wikivoyage:Script policy for our policy concerning bots. Thanks! Also, just a couple of notes: 1)since the bot has been blocked (only able to edit "User talk" page), you will need to create a personal account (or edit synonymously) to nominate the bot and 2)a response to this is best discussed at voy:User talk:Hoo User Page Bot (both for the WV community and since I don't regularly check activity on Meta). Thanks for understanding this issue concerning our policies. AHeneen (talk) 02:21, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Replied locally... sad to have another wiki I'm not serving - Hoo man (talk) 03:04, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
It appears that they've unblocked and given it a flag. --Rschen7754 08:27, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tagger on userpages

On Firefox (and Safari), I don't see the tagger in the top right of User:PiRSquared17/Sandbox8. Tested in MonoBook and in Vector. Can you replicate this? πr2 (tc) 04:35, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I tried it several times but I can't reproduce this. Is this still an issue? - Hoo man (talk) 21:34, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I just figured it out. It was because MediaWiki:Gadget-blocktab.js is broken. So sorry! Now it works fine. :) πr2 (tc) 21:40, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

User:Hoo User Page Bot

hello! excuse me, please, for bothering you. just a thought: is it possible to create global user talk pages using softredirects, not 'usual' ones? it appears to be a broken one if it is left like here [1] --antanana 08:16, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bot at pt.wikivoyage

Your bot there was not approved and also not flagged. I'm not blocking the bot for now but please ask for the flag and approval. Gusta (talk) 21:09, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done, the bot will never touch ptwikivoyage again... if it does let me know that's an unwanted bug then. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 21:31, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Removed from bot's blacklist. Will try to get a flag for the bot. Gusta (talk) 21:49, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that community thinks that the bot shouldn't run there. Some people even wanted it to be flagged. Hoo, do you think the bot can run on the project with no flag? If you think it needs flag, it should be given with no problem (per my understanding of what I read on a discussion related).—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 01:47, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't care whether the bot has a flag on any wiki or not (and never did). And I'm not going to requests flags myself either. If a project decides to only allow flagged bots they either have to give my bot a flag by themselves or I'll stop editing that wiki (that's why I eg. never edited enwikinews). So it's up to the local project to decide whether and how they want my bot (in this case it seems like ptwikivoyage doesn't allow unflagged bots so I'm not going to edit that wiki until someone gives me a flag there). I'm doing this because I sadly just don't have much time to spend on this project - Hoo man (talk) 04:07, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unflagged bots are not disallowed on pt.voyage. It seems to be a misunderstood.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 04:23, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hoo man, we talked at IRC, you can operate your bot normally, i just said that we will try to get your bot a flag. Your case is a special case. You have a lot of flags and your bot is harmless. Gusta (talk) 14:52, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

So... if you (the pt.wikivoyage community) are fine with the bot I will re allow it to run there. As told above whether you give it a flag or not doesn't really matter to me that's up to you. The only thing that matters is whether you allow that bot to run or not as I don't want to see it blocked (and I don't want to override the community in its decisions) - Hoo man (talk) 16:01, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Run the bot. Simple. Gusta (talk) 19:54, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Done, gave your bot the bot flag. Gusta (talk) 22:04, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

WIktionary JavaScript

Hello, could you give a look at wiktionary:Wiktionary:Beer_parlour/2013/February#Yahoo_Pipe_for_404s? If I understand correctly they plan to load or send data to Yahoo! Pipes on every 404... --Nemo 08:03, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

That script is a proof of concept to enhance the default 404 pages. Im a novice at wikipedia/jquery scripting, and I guess that a more experienced programmer could easily rewrite this into a WT-only script. -- Stratoprutser (talk) 08:40, 28 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Question

Hi. Why this, which is categorized in Category:Deleteme does not show in that category? Is any syntax error in {{possible copyright violation}}? - I use a template ({{event trigger}}) for automatically change the categories in a given date, and while it seems to be working (the file is categorized in the deletion cat), the file isn't showing there. Hello Hoo man, I hope you're doing fine. I was wondering if you could help me. I am the coordinator of Wikimedia Canada and we organize the National Contribution Month. I'd like to add a banner CentralNotice, all projects, Canada, en & fr, effective March 31 (to Apr 10th) based on this template.

I was wondering if you could help me or tell me who can, as the campaign starts in 5 days. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 13:12, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Translation administrator flag

Hello, I see that you have translation administrator flag but apparently never used it; if I'm mistaken, forgive me and consider the rest of the message for what it's worth. The current wording of the policy says «Meta administrators are able to add (and remove) themselves to the group if they are willing to help other users or need it», so you can add it to yourself at any time; but you may consider removing it for now. This would also help users willing to contact translation admins, making it easier. While I'm at it: please watchlist Meta:Babylon if you have not yet. Thanks, Nemo 11:29, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

As it's still impossible to eg. delete pages and perform certain other tasks on pages marked for translation as sysop, I'd rather keep the rights as long as I hold the admin rights - Hoo man (talk) 17:51, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising translation feedback

Hey Hoo man, I have a bit of a request to ask from you. We pulled down our banners nearly a fortnight ago for what was a highly successful international fundraiser and brought the curtain down on last years fundraiser. This week however we will be changing payment processors and during the testing of the new system it would be useful to use the time productively on on testing banner text.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to help us improve our geman text using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

We are going to run the test on tuesday so if you dont see this message till 24 hours after it was sent you can ignore me :) Many Thanks though.

Global replacement of old custom toolbar

Hello, bugzilla:47872#c11 suggests we need such replacements on all wikis, for all sitewide or user-specific .js pages: would you be able to do it via bot? Devs claim it's a trivial search and replace, so it should be very easy, but it would be extremely helpful; I knew about the bug but had no idea I had to fix it that way. --Nemo 21:20, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Active sysops

--MF-W 02:29, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

if ( typeof activeSysopsConfig === 'undefined' ) {
	var activeSysopsConfig = {};
}
activeSysopsConfig.lang = 'en';

Tagger

Hello, Hoo. Is there a way to make your tagger and other scripts to work on Chrome? I see they work fine on FF, but most of the times they do nothing on Chrome.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 23:47, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

As I don't use WebKit/ Blink based browsers myself often I didn't notice this until now, thanks for letting me know. While I already have overhauled versions of all tools on github for months now ([2]) it's not trivial to migrate all of those into production as eg. several gadgets and maybe some user configurations will break. Sadly this situation is especially bad with the tagger, as it is used as gadget on several wikis with different configurations. I'll try to find the time to migrate all tools to the state in github until the Wikimania (and I really hope that will fix these problems) - Hoo man (talk) 00:40, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Thanks for checking that!—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 00:22, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Synchbot

Hi Hoo man. Two twings I would like to discuss with you:

1) Quentinv57 said on IRC that he asked you before to merge your synchbot page (User:Hoo man/Synchbot) with the one of Pathoschild (User:Pathoschild/Scripts/Synchbot), but he also said that you never answered. Maybe you could think you about this suggestion and merge the two pages?
2) Second question: would you maybe also have the access to do these actions with Patho's bot? :) I don't think Quentinv57 would mind and there is a structural backlog on that request page.

With regards, Trijnsteltalk 19:58, 22 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, this is kind of a longer story but I can sum it up briefly. My plan was to implement global JavaScript as part of a MediaWiki extension this year, but as you probably noticed it didn't come to this and I don't really think I'll have the time for that anytime soon. So if I find time to work on the global JavaScript thing anytime again, I will certainly spend that on writing the mentioned extension. I don't really get the second question, is it about using Patho's script? - Hoo man (talk) 18:34, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, yes. At the moment only Pathoschild and Quentinv57 use the bot/script. I thought, maybe you can help out a bit... Trijnsteltalk 18:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Help needed: User:Shubha's Problems on Marathi (mr) & Sanskrit (sa) Wikipedia.

Dear Hoo man, User:Shubha has made following complaints:

1. Here is the page which gives details of my global account - https://sa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%B7%E0%A4%AE%E0%A5%8D:%E0%A4%AE%E0%A4%A7%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%B0%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A4%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%AE%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF/Shubha --my (User:Shubha)'s account is not working on Marathi wiki. How to go about it ?

2. One more question is - can't the edits done in Sanskrit incubator be transferred to sa.wikiquote.org / sa.wikipedia.org edits for this user ?

I request you to kindly look into the matter and please respond at the earliest. Regards, Hindustanilanguage (talk) 12:10, 9 October 2013 (UTC).Reply

Hi Hindustanilanguage,
to get the account on mrwiki attached to his global account, Shubha should try using Special:MergeAccount. If that doesn't work because he doesn't know the password for the account on mrwiki, he has to get the mrwiki account renamed so that he can create a new one with that name (see also Help:Unified_login#Conflict_resolution, please note that mrwiki has active local bureaucrats).
I can't really answer you second question as I'm not into the Incubator and its processes enough, but I think this should have happened by the time the wikis were created - Hoo man (talk) 18:56, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the information. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 03:03, 10 October 2013 (UTC).Reply

bar Seitennotiz

Hallo Hoo man, deinen Eingriff inkl.

--Matthias Klostermayr (talk) 06:25, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
If there is reason to believe that a website has a copy of a work in violation of its copyright, do not link to it. Linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work casts a bad light on Wikipedia and its editors. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as Scribd or YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates copyright.“ Einen Grund für die Löschung der Maßnahme sehe ich in jedem Falle auch nicht gegeben.

- Hoo man (talk) 00:36, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

(Quetsch) Same procedure!
--Bua333 (talk) 12:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Replacing luxotool in "useful links"

Hi Hoo, the old luxotool seems to have become pretty useless now. Would you consider replacing it in User:Hoo man/Scripts/Useful links with the guc tool? Or is it too early for that? Mathonius (talk) 22:51, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

In a nutshell, I don't think that tool is ready for prime time yet. For example it doesn't support showing blocks. Furthermore if you give the user name as get parameter (like http://tools.wmflabs.org/guc/?user=Hoo%20man) it wont auto load the edits, which makes it much less handy than the old tool. If the old tool is becoming to unreliable for daily use I will of course exchange the links. - Hoo man (talk) 23:45, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
What about including both for now? I haven't been able to get luxo to work in at least a week. --Rschen7754 01:14, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
After some further looking around I decided to finally exchange the tools as I doubt that the Toolserver is going to get into a reasonable shape ever again. - Hoo man (talk) 19:38, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Seems like a good decision: [3] --Rschen7754 00:24, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Save button disappears on some projects

Hi!

I can see you're an interface editor. Maybe you can help me.

On lt.wikipedia and zh.wiktionary, the save button disappears when adding

span#wpSummaryLabel { display: none; }

to Special:MyPage/common.css. That should not happen.

On ka.wikiquote, the same thing happens when adding

#editpage-copywarn { display: none; }

to the same page.

Would you mind taking a look at this? Nirmos (talk) 14:57, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

All done: zh.wiktionary, lt.wikipedia, ka.wikiquote - Hoo man (talk) 21:53, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

vls.wikipedia

Hi, Hoo man, your help during my absence is highly appreciated. I do not know very well how to deal with this kind of vandalism extending on my User talk page on the en.wikipedia. I had blocked the 87.249.103.164 IP on the vls.wikipedia for the same reason (intimidating behavior and immediatly after this the same IP starts the intimidating behavior on my talk page. How should I proceed? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 14:43, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you can request a global block (spanning all wikis) for such IPs on Steward requests/Global or on IRC #wikimedia-stewardsconnect (IRC is usually faster, you should use it if you know how to). Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 22:00, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Help request

Hi,

Season's Greetings.I am a sysop and crat from mr-wiki. I came across an edit filter New gadget warning on Wikidata prepared by you, along with message attached message.

There you have rightly written in message prepared by you "...making sure that the code you are about to make accessible to a broad range of users is secure and working correctly.....Before adding a new gadget you should ask another user with experience in JavaScript/CSS to review it...."

Being an admin from mr-wiikipedia, an active but small project, for past few months, I am finding it difficult to convince my local community peers that there is a need for review of gadgets for sucurity and correct working by other users experienced in JavaScript/CSS.

What I request you is, to provide some good refferences and information /links, that can help me convince the community, the need/necessity for being carefull of sucurity and correct working while installing gadgets in MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition.

Thanks and Regards
