Jakatra

I reverted your edit on af.wiki. If I remeber correctly Jakatra was a village not far from the Dutch settlement Batavia in the 17th cent. The Indonesians renamed the (much expanded) Batavia to Jakarta centuries later. Why the matathesis I don't know. But in historical sources people speak of Jakatra. Hi, thanks for your message. However, the text I edited refers to the 19th century, so I don't think a historical name from the 17th century (which is more often referred to as Jayakarta btw, if I looked this up correctly) should be used there, it seems slightly anachronistic in this place. --Icodense (talk) 20:38, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

After further research, as I found this random metathesis of these two letters pretty interesting: I think it has never really been called Jakatra (apart from typos), the transposed r and t only seem to be originally found in the spelling Jacatra in Portuguese documents, I guess this spelling derives from an error of Tomé Pires. --Icodense (talk) 20:46, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

GSR:Unused Copyrighted Files

Hello, hope you're doing well! yesterday i reported bunch of unused files which were also copyrighted, but no one processed to delete them, did i report anything wrong by any chance? or i shouldn't have reported them in the first place? couple of years ago i used to clean up Small wikis from Copyrighted files, and they were normally processed and deleted. : ) 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 04:04, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

Hi! I only handled a few relatively obvious cases on GSR yesterday as I returned from a day trip and was tired, so I didn't want to touch anything which required any real decision-making. Also I'm not an expert for copyright stuff and I became GS relatively recently, so I hadn't seen how others processed any similar requests yet. I also know there are some differences between some wikis which files are deemed acceptable. I'll take a look at it today. --Icodense (talk) 06:09, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

I've deleted all the files now. One logo imo clearly didn't reach the threshold of originality, but there was a higher-quality version of the same logo on Commons, which was used in this project anyway instead of the local upload, so I deleted this one as well. --Icodense (talk) 06:54, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

Invitation to try the Starter Kit tool

Greetings!

As a cross-wiki maintainer supporting Wikimedia communities, you're invited by the Language Onboarding and Development initiative to learn about the Starter Kit, try it out, and join a virtual meeting where you can ask questions about the tool.

What the tool does

The Starter Kit helps small or new Wikipedia contributors complete essential tasks, like importing infoboxes, tracking your wiki's growth and health metrics, and connecting with members of the broader Wikimedia community for technical guidance. Some features require certain user rights, but three of the six tasks are open to any autoconfirmed editor, so most active editors can get started right away.

Here's what we would like you to do:

• Read the manual for more detail on the tool and the tasks you can perform: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Language_Onboarding_and_Development/Starter_kit
• Access the Starter Kit tool: https://starterkit.toolforge.org/ and log in with your Wikimedia account to try it out.

Hi Sakura! As a global rollbacker, you already have the ability to view temporary account IP addresses globally, as this permission is included in the global rollbacker group. So there shouldn't be any need for you to request the separate global temporary account IP viewer right. Is there a specific wiki or situation where you have been unable to view a temporary account's IP address so far?
