Translator, We need you![edit]

Dear Itzike,

You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.

Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.

Banners - Israel[edit]

Hey itzik,

I wasn't familiar with this page, thank you for sharing Nemo. But I don't think we really need to trust bid numbers. They were always much more different then actual. Request for Input - New Central Notice request process[edit]

Hello fellow CN admin!

Back in February I emailed the CN-admin list regarding part of my role to look into the Central Notice process and see where we could make improvements including: the campaign process; its functionality or lack thereof; and fundamentally the documentation that supports it. You can see many of the issues that I identified at CentralNotice/Process_Review. If there is anything additional that you feel has been left out then please feel free to leave any comments on the talk page.

My first task is to improve the requesting of campaigns by communities and affiliates. I am looking to set up a more formal request process, similar to those used in many projects. The aim is to: increase the transparency of Central Notice; improve the support provided to affiliates (including making such support more consistent); to provide a forum for community input into campaigns.

I have been working on a very rough strawman version of the process and I would be interested in hearing you comments about what such a process should involve and what you think it would require. Please feel free to leave such comments at the process talk page section. I would like to have a working page in place by the end of May. This would not need to be a final version. The process can be improved upon over time as we learn about how well it works.

Participate in the Inspire Campaign and help address harassment![edit]

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. GLAM campaign lacks translate link[edit]

Hi. I see that Special:CentralNoticeBanners/edit/WMILGLAM2018Scholarships lacks an "Please help translate to your language" link to where volunteers can translate the banner. There are being complains at some major wikis (eswiki and fawiki as far as I can see) about the banner being displayed in English and not being able to translate it. I appreciate that the banner is only displayed in English given it's in English only.
Remember to monitor the impact of the banner being displayed: 18 days and up to 5 impressions per domain and browser means that I can potentially be displayed the banner 3*5*800 times (with 3 browsers and 800 wikis), or every single time I visit a Wikimedia project for 18 days. A simple way to check the impact is to look at the destination page's views. When they plummet, it means the interest has been exhausted and the campaign can be stopped or trimmed. --Nemo 06:40, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nemo, as we don't have the option to also control the impressions per browser, every banner which is running right now has the same problem as the one you described. This banner has a very low impression ratio, only 5 times for all the duration of the campaign.
