New version of Donor Privacy Policy

Hi! Please explain, why new version of Donor policy was not placed in Meta-wiki for translation by Wikimedia community volunteers? This text may be placed in the Donor Privacy Policy, instead soft-redirect to wmf-wiki. I am ready to perform the translation markup and import current translations from wmf-wiki.--Kaganer (talk)

Small note about document design: "list-style-type: lower-alpha;" is not appropriate for non-latin scripting system (Cyrillic, Japan, Chineze etc.) Maybe you update your internal "writing style guide" for exclude these markup from potentially multilingual texts? --Kaganer (talk) 13:18, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Re: Update from translation plugin

Can you clarify how/why you're making edits such as [3]? CentralNotice was supposed to "automatically" use the translations once approved by changing the workflow state in Special:Translate, per Help:CentralNotice/Translations. --Nemo 13:57, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Request of removal related to the full-name and details of underage crimes

Hi, I just read a post in Chinese Wikipedia stating that the underage crimes stories should be removed to protect the underage people according to the local regulation "The Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act" in Taiwan. There is a rape and murder case happened in Taiwan that the victim and murderer are both underage and their full name was in the edit history. According to Article 69 of that above act states that "... internet or other media will not report or record the names or information of the following children and youth...". However, the editor is wondering since Wikimedia projects are under California jurisdiction, is there any similar concept in the US to apply this removal? --Liang(WMTW) (talk) 04:40, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Board of Trustees translation

Hello Joe, On the Dutch Wikipedia there was a discussion/complaint that the banner above Wikipedia about the Board of Trustees election contains wrong information. If you want to translate "Board of Trustees" to Dutch, this will be "Raad van Bestuur". A "Raad van Toezicht" is something completely different and wrong here. I tell you this here, as I fixed the Dutch translation and you added here again the wrong translation. I am sure WMF likes to have the banner text translated the right way. Thanks! Roamine, fix it in CNBanner namespace please. There is no telling from translation interface if there were any direct MW namespace changes to the message as far as I know, so it is no wonder the fixed message got overwritten when Joe changed translation status to published. --Base (talk) 16:23, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for the link where I should be able to find it, but there I see the right translation. Finding the history it seems I changed it, but I have no idea how that happened exactly. The goal is that the right translation is there, this is now the case in both in the CNBanner namespace and MediaWiki namespace.
I must indicate that the translate extension works terrible for some parts. Especially navigation and where certain pages belong to or how to fix errors in pages (which are only in non-editing modus), it works bad. This is a long standing issue, for many many years. CentralNotice is using Bokmål for Nynorsk messages

You had copied Bokmål messages to Nynorsk, but I have changed them. Users at Nynorsk are going to twist sideways,… :D I should probably ask the people there if they can spellcheck, just to be polite. Added a note at the Norwegian Nynorsk "Samfunnshuset"; w:nn:Wikipedia:Samfunnshuset#Banner om valet.

I did correct the Bokmål messages, but a later edit changed them again. Not sure what would be right, I set them back. It is likely they will be changed again, so I'll just stay away… ;)

Claiming there is Danish in the Norwegian Bokmål messages is like claiming there are American in the English messages. It is probably best to just stay away, I should have done so instead.

Election banner

Hi. You seem to have something to do with the election banner and consequently I place my problem on your shoulders. The banner at present reads on Norwegian WP: «Avstemningen er begynt for valg til bestyrelsen i Wikimedia Styret! Avstemningen avsluttes 14. mai 2017 kl. 23:59 (UTC). Sjekk om du er kvalifisert og stem nå.» Unfortunately this is not Norwegian. It is a jumble of words in Danish and Norwegian, and grammar is sorely lacking. I have looked at the banner once to often and can't get used to it, but I have not been able to find out how to change the text. Are you able to change the translation to:

Had found the right place and translated the Bokmål version again, but I got reverted by Jeblad. I'm in no mood for an edit war with Jeblad. The Danish fortunately is gone now in the Bokmål text which is not as bad as it was and is now just awkward and wrong choice of words but probably understandable for most people. I wish we were warned beforehand at Bokmål WP before texts are published. This was published way before it was anywhere near an actual translation (Nynorsk and Bokmål both) and I assume that the advertising effect of "bad" language isn't quite what anybody wants. Thanks again for your support and you did succeed in getting rid of the Danish in the Nynorsk version although it was reintroduced by Jeblad someone have rewritten/retranslated it and now it is Nynorsk and seems to be left in peace. @Dyveldi: You're welcome. My intention is not to give people bad translations or anything like this. It is useful I believe to have at least an okay translation in Norwegian (so that those who do not speak English can at least understand it) than none at all. Note that I just moved the translation from last year (CNBanner:Election2015 Board voting starts-message/nb‎ and CNBanner:Election2015 Board voting starts-message2/nb‎) over to the new banner, so this same translation was visible in 2015 when the elections were last on. As for the argument over the language... I cannot help there :) I have not nearly enough knowledge of Norwegian to give any comments on this. Of course . We all stick to the languages we know (well some of us). Being a native speaker is not always enough. What if we plan to make some changes the next time around, before the election is started? We do not have to repeat this again the next two years? It is possible we will have this same discussion again but there is no real way to make this process easier using the systems we currently have. And all because I'm a Christian, they discriminate against my religion and the worst thing is that they constantly campaign against my activities in the Azerbaijan Wikipedia. While doing some maintenance I've found that you've recently granted centralnotice admin rights to a group of WMF accounts... which are globally locked, so they can't even log in into their accounts. I'm not sure how to proceed here. If they're going to be unlocked then I'll keep their rights, if not, maybe you can take care of them :)

Training Dashboard - Tracking possible?

Hi Joe, I am interested in creating a training module and want to first thank you for the good description. Further it would be great to have more information on possible exitpoints the users experience. Is there a possibilty to track how many users did a particular training and when they exited the training? Thanks in advance for your help! @Stefan Schneider (WMDE): Thanks for the kind words! Your question is a good one, and one that we're also investigating. If you "log in" to the dashboard (which I believe uses oauth credentials from Wikimedia), it will track which modules have been completed locally. That is, I don't think it will currently allow this progress to be broadcast further than the user's own browser. We're thinking about ways to make this better, possibly through manual means (barnstars, userbox certificates, etc.) or something more sophisticated (a tracking bot, automatic posting of progress, etc.) Hopefully that makes sense! I am also going to also flag this conversation to Sage (Wiki Ed), as he's the fantastic coder behind this system and might already be thinking about this ;). Stefan Schneider (WMDE), Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation): the dashboard keeps track of when each module was started, the furthest slide reached, and when it was finished, for any logged-in user. That progress ought to be added to the user profile pages (eg, https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Ragesoss ) at some point, but for now, it's only shown in the context of a course/program where some trainings have been assigned, so it's not that useful for P&E Dashboard. Tracking completion for logged out users, just for the sake of counting unique people who have completed a given module, would also be worthwhile to add at some point.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:38, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

For https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Ragesoss I can see only the duration, number of students and the role in different projects, but for example for my account there is no information tracked https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Stefan%20Schneider%20(WMDE) but I completed the whole Wikipedia Training Modules. Creating Training Modules

Hi Joe,

I am about to create a training module in German. I already created the JSON-files for the library and the modules. Also the slides are in place. I included my files in the lists here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Training_modules/dashboard

Now I tried to use this link to import my work into a module on the dashboard: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/reload_trainings?module=wikipedia-basiswissen. But it does not find my module. What do I need to do to make my work visible and work as a real training on the dashboard?

Feedback on Training Modules

in the last slide of the Editing Basics Training you use the feedback button to get feedback on the training. Is this a general Feedback for the Programs & Event Dashboard or a specific feedback on the training that the users just completed? The link seems to be quite general. Hey Stefan Schneider (WMDE) - it looks like this page is actually a creation of Theklan, who might be better positioned to answer - that having been said, it looks like it's a link to a pretty general page. A place where feedback can be given on each slide individually sounds like a good idea to me, but we at SuSa don't currently have the bandwidth to investigate that.
