Dear User:Jetam2,

Please consider translating these pages to the languages you know so that people around the world can read about Wikimedia Diversity Conference in the languages they are familiar with. Please click on the 'Translate this page ' link on top of the main page of the conference to start translating! Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up

[edit]

Hello Jetam2,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

Translation request

[edit]

Hello, I understand you speak the Slovak language. I was wondering if you can translate "Village in China", "Commune in Morocco", and "village in Indonesia". It is for updating Wikidata. Thanks in advance. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 02:28, 5 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I do, yes. "Village" as in something that has autonomy (municipality) or something that is just a settlement?--Jetam2 (talk) 07:33, 5 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
oh, in english, village is usually a municipality that has autonomy, but smaller than city. I was looking around to see if Slovak has a corresponding word and I think it would be best to compare sk:Modra and sk:Most pri Bratislave as sk:Mesto (Slovensko) and sk:Obec (slovenská správna jednotka). However, I understand other languages don't really have a distinction so, up to you. Thanks. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 22:57, 5 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, "Obec" means a municipality. In Slovak law it could be either a city or a village. Municipalities ("obec") can be granted a city charter, thus going from (just) an "obec" (informally "dedina") to a "mesto". In informal language "obec" is used to talk about a village-style settlement as opposed to a "mesto" which is used for a city/town-style settlement. Or in other words: rural settlements are informally called a "dedina", all municipalities are "obec" and some of them (the urban ones) are "mesto". Since village as a style of settlement is called "dedina" then "village in China" would be "Dedina v Číne". "Commune", I think is a synonym for "municipality" so it should be "Obec v Maroku" and "Village in Indonesia" should then be "Dedina v Indonézii" if it is a village-style settlement. I hope it made things clearer rather than less clear.--Jetam2 (talk) 19:19, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Dear participant!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for participating in Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2022! We are grateful for your willingness to share free knowledge about the people and culture of Ukraine when it is needed the most.

As promised, the organizers want to appreciate your contribution by awarding you a certificate of participation. Please wait for further notifications from me on that issue.

What comes to prizes: because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there could be delays in shipping, however, we will definitely get back soon with more information on that.

Hi! I'm contacting you as one of the participants in the Wikimedia Summit 2022, to kindly ask for your feedback through a 5-10 minute survey to evaluate 'Baserow' (note: the survey is on a Google form).

Baserow was a tool through which participants in the Summit co-created a database of Movement Strategy activities. We hope to learn from you how useful it may be to keep using it in the future to help document and connect on Movement Strategy work.

About Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2024 Programme Committee

[edit]

Dear Jetam2,

Thank you for showing interest in the work of the WMCEEM24 program committee. The organizing committee did an extensive job selecting future committee members, as it wasn't an easy task where each candidate had a strong background. After the final check, the organizing committee decided on four members instead of the required three members, which is the absolute maximum for a program committee. And you will agree that this is also the maximum from the seven candidates.

Unfortunately, you were not selected for the program committee, but we hope you will submit your candidacy for membership in future years. I also hope to see you this year at the conference in Istanbul.

Thank you for your input, and good luck. On behalf of the organizing committee, --– Mehman (WMGE) 19:49, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

[edit]

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.

Join us for “Many Tongues, One Movement: Voices Across Languages”!

[edit]

Hello Jetam2,

We’re excited to invite you to an inspiring global virtual gathering: the first Capacity Exchange Translat-a-thon.

Together with Language Diversity Hub, the Capacity Exchange (CapX) team will host its first Translation Marathon dedicated to ensuring linguistic equity in access to this amazing tool aimed to connect Wikimedians.
If you enjoy contributing to Wikimedia projects through translating and adapting content into different languages, this event is for you! Join us in the celebration of the multilingual spirit of the Wikimedia Movement at an event where communities that contribute in diverse languages will be able to share local knowledge and collaborate across borders.
Many Tongues, One Movement: Voices Across Languages

  • Date: December 6, 2025
  • Time: 12 PM (UTC) - Check the event page for your local timezone
  • Location: Online (Meta-Wiki + live session links)

If you can’t join the live event, you can still contribute to the translations! Edits will be counted for two weeks, until December 20th. And everyone who participates will receive a special badge to display on their CapX profiles.

Strengthen your collaboration through CapX
