Consultations[edit]

Hi there,

I just thought I'd introduce myself (I think we may have actually passed each other in the wind before on the strategy bit in meta, but I can't remember any discussions we've had).

Is your role about how the WMF runs consultations with the communities on different areas? I wasn't quite sure as "movement consultations" sounds more like consultations about our general mission as opposed to specific projects/changes, but not sure if that's just a naming bit.

Asaf and Whatamidoing and I have had some good discussions about agreeing what the particularly common flashpoints are and why WMF/community projects seem to snarl up into failure, so explosively, so regularly. Which obviously is not really beneficial to anyone.

Don't want to launch into a summary of that, or questions, or symphony-length summaries of my own viewpoints until I'd checked that has anything to do with your field!

Cheers, Nosebagbear (talk) 16:07, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello back! I think we're a little familiar, yes, but thank you for reaching out. Your summary hits at the emphasis of my role - helping teams across WMF consult communities (broadly defined) on specific projects/changes. Asaf and WhatamIdoing are great thought partners, and I talk with them and others about many recurring flash points, as well as approaches that do work well that we can build on. Overall, I'll be working on things like coordination support, communications guidance, and sharing best practices. Suffice to say it's a new role and the general focus is internal support, though I'm still scoping out where to focus my time. I'm also trying to attend some of Asaf's Community Clinics - hope to see you there. :) --KStineRowe (WMF) (talk) 16:37, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
