Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up[edit]

Hello Mardetanha/archive7,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

about new static ip and blocking[edit]

Dear Admin user:Mardetanha, I was blocked by you before I guess for not having a static fixed IP address. I applied for a static ip adress and my ip address is 128.65.182.227 The username I use is "Eeranee". I use this ip address and user name. And if I moved to a new house in the future I would apply for another static address. If still there was a problem with my ip and username can you please inform me before blocking my ip/user name. Best Regards, --Eeranee (talk)

Hello and Congratulations on your new IP, you shouldn't have any problems right now, but if you do, you ask for IP block exempttion in your home wiki which seems enwikT, during the time if bumped into any problems you contact me by email. Mardetanha talk 11:23, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IP Block over VPN[edit]

Today I have logged into the wikipedia, through a vpn to make some updates on a talk page, to give some point s about an article. However, I was quite surprised to see my ip as blocked since February. I believe this is due to VPN I use. However, since wiki is banned in Turkey this is the only way for me right now. Power abuse, Defamation and baseless content problem by authorities of Turkish wikipedia[edit]

Hi, I am contacting you because you can speak Turkish and can analyze the plight. I have a problem on Turkish wikipedia, all problems are reported to the bureaucrat of Turkish wikipedia but he is ignoring everything. I will cite the links and you may read them:

1)First problem, The problem is a patrol of Turkish wikipedia has defamated me (sözlü saldırıda bulundu) 3 times in a month. I have reported it right after the first time he has defamated me, Turkish bureaucrats did not do anything for almost a month. I insisted them to do something and today after insisting they have banned me for a week instead of banning the defamator. Here are the relevant links: https://tr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kullan%C4%B1c%C4%B1_mesaj:Viki%C3%A7izer&diff=prev&oldid=19771213 All links to the defamations are listed there.

2) I have reported a distortion and a baseless content from an article and asked them to amend it. I have tried to open it into a discussion, a patrol has consistently prevented me from doing so via his powers and the same bureaucrat protected the page. Here is the baseless content:

"Paul Henze, 2003 yılında Zaman gazetesine verdiği demeçte, sözlerinin Mehmet Ali Birand'ın uydurması olduğunu belirtmiş, başkan Carter'a Ankara'daki darbeyi haber verenin kendisi değil, başka bir diplomat olduğunu iddia etmiştir."

BOLD part of the content (başkan Carter'a Ankara'daki darbeyi haber verenin kendisi değil, başka bir diplomat olduğunu iddia etmiştir) is not found anywhere in the cited sources or anywhere else for that matter. They are refusing to amend it. There are other problems as well, they are denying me to do those steps as well without stating any reason to do so.

3) They are cherry-picking contents from sources. They use a source and write their content, then when I am going to amend something from that source, they are preventing me. In short, they use a source but prevent me from using the same source stating it would rotate the content they want to keep in one-eighty.

They are giving misleading information on the wikipedia, I tried to amend it but they are preventing me via their power. The whole discussion is here: https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tart%C4%B1%C5%9Fma:12_Eyl%C3%BCl_Darbesi They are abusing their power. Do something about the patrol that consistently insulted me personally and do something to remove the baseless content. The rest is up to discussion, request them to either come to discussion or change it. --Ruhubelent (talk) 16:35, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translation administration[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you are translation admin and have marked WikiArabia 2019 pages for translation. Please find some time to look through documentation about the translation mark-up. For example, I find this page very useful. In short, it is advised to make section titles and list units separate translation units (in order to make units smaller, easier for users to translate and for translation memory to work). [Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
