Fundraising Committee[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for volunteering to sit on the Fundraising committee. The work of the committee will be really valuable to making this year's annual giving campaign really effective. I've posted an overview to Fundraising 2010, and would love your thoughts on the talk page. I'm also going to try to set up an IRC meeting soon, and hope you'll join for that. Keep an eye Fundraising 2010/Committee for a couple of proposed times! Thanks again... Philippe (WMF) 18:25, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting[edit]

Hi all,

I'd like to have a meeting on IRC this week to discuss the 2010-2011 annual appeal/fundraiser. This will be an "anyone is welcome" type meeting, open to the broad community. During this, Zack Exley and I will take you through our inital thoughts about the fundraiser and its organization, and ask you to join us in a discussion about the (massive) role of volunteers and chapters in this year's fundraiser.

Because of the vagaries of time zones, scheduling live meetings is hard. So, we'll have a couple of potential times, and we'll log and post the meeting for anyone who wasn't able to make it.

The meetings will be held Thursday, 12 August at 23:00 UTC (16:00 PDT) and Friday, 13 August at 16:30 UTC (09:30 PDT) in the #wikimedia-fundraising channel on the freenode network on IRC (irc://irc.freenode.net/wikimedia-fundraising). You can access this using freenode's webclient, which is available at http://webchat.freenode.net/ or by using your favorite IRC client.

Hope to see you there! Philippe (WMF) 20:38, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation of 3 Staff Positions Meaning[edit]

Hi Megan: I am translating Staff Page now. Can you explain what positions of Community Associate, Community Officer, and Head of Reader Relations mean? What is difference between them? Who appoint people to this positions and what are their responsibilities?

By the way what are Reader Relations? Does it mean relations between readers of Wikimedia articles and Fundraiser Staff? Or some other readers?

Your answers or links to appropriate materials will help to translate the position names more exactly because there are no direct translations of these terms into Russian/Belarusian in the existing dictionaries. --Da voli 07:40, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Da voli... The titles question is a good one. "Reader relations" refers to the fact that there are (broadly speaking) two different types of Wikimedia users: readers and contributors. Reader Relations was originally meant to be geared towards the "readers". Unfortunately, that title doesn't really reflect appropriately anymore since the job has migrated into a lot more cross-over work than originally intended. We're going to work on a title change. As "Head of Reader Relations" my role was to be the voice of readers but I've found myself in many other roles.
A "community officer" is someone who works in the community department but may have projects of several types within that area. They could be fundraising, volunteer coordination, etc. They're intended to be project manager types who run big pieces of larger overall projects. It's a new title that we're still experimenting with.
A "Community associate" is an entry-level or newly hired employee who usually works directly with a community officer, but may move from project to project. Probably no budgetary authority, though nothing is set in stone.
I hope this makes some sense! Philippe (WMF) 06:08, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi, Megan, you've uploaded quite a few images. These need to be noted with a source (a statement that you created them yourself is sufficient if you did, or a link to where they're from if you did not) and the applicable tag from Category:License templates (for ones you created yourself, you can pick.) Otherwise they are likely to be tagged for deletion at some point in the future. Courcelles 18:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Megan,

I noticed that yourself and Philippe have been working on the above page, however, I do not believe that it is necessary to have the links to the stories linked to via the secure version of the WMF website. Is there a particular reason for this, or is this just an oversight? :)

Thanks,

The Helpful One 20:42, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I also boldy made this edit, to use the cquote template for the quotes - please feel free to revert if you don't agree with it. Hope this helps, The Helpful One 20:46, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, the greatest respect to the person to produce the pie charts, File:Donations by country.png and File:Amounts by country.png, however, I believe that there is too much white space around the edges which makes it unnecessarily difficult to view them on the report page, without opening them up separately. Could you trim this whitespace off? Hope this helps, The Helpful One 20:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Quotes look better, good call. No particular reason for the secure stories, I think it just came up like that. Thanks for looking out. I'll see about the graphs.  :) Meganhernandez 21:06, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I cropped the pie charts. They look better in the report that way, though a native high-res image would, of course, be better, that'd have to be recreated from the original data. Courcelles 21:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With respect to my banner if it is run again wondering if we could change the wording from "almost 75%" to "50-70%"? Adding this as a ref would also be useful http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21282098 Cheers --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:14, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, it would be useful to add at least the date of each update, or it's very difficult to understand. Thank you, Nemo 11:38, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CentralNotice[edit]

Hey, can you help me with the CentralNotice for our event in Cape Town? See Requests_for_help_from_a_sysop_or_bureaucrat#Central_Notice_request (notice details on CentralNotice/Calendar). We discussed this with Wikimedia South Africa and the organising committee of WLM SA, but I need your assistance in putting the notice online. MADe (talk) 10:30, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising Testing[edit]

Dear Megan Hernandez,

Previously, I would like to introduce myself that I am an active “Editor” on Indonesian Wikipedia (WBI = Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia) as a username: “Erwin Mulialim”.
For Complete Information, Would You Please Visit Here or Click Here.

I have read the letter which you have sent or posted to WikiMedia Mailing List (wikimedia-l@lists.wikimedia.org) on Thursday, February 28th, 2013 2:11 AM with the topic: “Fundraising Testing”. Well, I am very interested to help you in translating banners and articles transcript from English into Indonesian. Which is to be understood that my translation was NOT a straight translation, but a translation into a language that is easily understood by the readers of Indonesian language at all WikiMedia projects. Hopefully my little help (my worthless assistance) would be pleasing to you.

Thank-You Very Much and May GOD Bless You Always. ~~ Erwin Mulialim(talk) 08:32, 28 February 2013 (UTC).[reply]

C13_wpnd_zhCN_FR[edit]

Please update this Central Notice asap, the current version has some serious factual error. I have already updated the traslation here. Thanks! --Kuailong (talk) 15:58, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Megan, I took the liberty of updating Kuailong's translation at MediaWiki:Fr2013-dropdown-china-facts and the /zh subpage, since Kuailong pointed out that even the figures were translated wrongly and such error should be fixed asap. I hope that is OK (I did not update other pages, not exactly sure where they are.) Regards, --Bencmq (talk) 01:22, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi guys, thanks for catching that! I've asked Seddon to double check as well. Meganhernandez (talk) 11:59, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed[edit]

To your question: I mostly edit from the Czech Republic within German language projects so that might interfer. I can't tell for now if there was a difference between the different languages I occasionally am working in. Sorry. --Matthiasb (talk) 11:18, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Research Analyst - Fundraising[edit]

Aaron sent this job posting to Research-l. It looks like the testing that you already do is similar to what's covered in this description. Can you explain the difference between your role and this job posting? Thanks, --Pine 06:54, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please see bugzilla:72271. We really must avoid deploying banners that can't be persistently dismissed. We likely need better (automated) test coverage in this area. --MZMcBride (talk) 18:06, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

When you have a moment...[edit]

Hello. I've been looking through Category:Move to Wikimedia Commons and noted that you uploaded File:Beaker.png and File:Beaker1.png in November 2011. Please could you elaborate on the context i.e. what do "A", "B", and "LP" refer to? Does the file fit into the Commons project scope or is this something that should stay on Meta? Thank you for your time. Green Giant (talk) 23:56, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A/B Tests[edit]

I ask my students to look at these A/B tests and I'd like to use more recent data, but can't find any. Could you give me a pointer? Thanks! -Reagle (talk) 17:01, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We need your feedback on a tool from the Wikimedia Summit[edit]

Reminder: the guide to using Baserow, presented during the Wikimedia Summit.

Hi! I'm contacting you as one of the participants in the Wikimedia Summit 2022, to kindly ask for your feedback through a 5-10 minute survey to evaluate 'Baserow' (note: the survey is on a Google form).

Baserow was a tool through which participants in the Summit co-created a database of Movement Strategy activities. We hope to learn from you how useful it may be to keep using it in the future to help document and connect on Movement Strategy work.

You are welcome and encouraged to fill out the survey in any language. Your feedback would be very appreciated --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 15:37, 16 February 2023 (UTC).[reply]
