The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a developing forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas about current developments in the Wikimedia Movement. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for further Wikimedia 2030 strategy process work.

At this meeting we will focus on the results of the Movement Charter ratification. We will also discuss the aftermath of the Board of Trustees' decision to veto the Movement Charter, including their recent proposals. We will also cover updates about upcoming Wikimania 2024.

This month, we are meeting on Sunday, July 28, and you are all invited to RSVP here.

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Administrator's code of conduct reconsideration

Good morning, Mr. Mehman, I am an inter-linguistic Wikipedian with about 36,000 edits for 10 years since 2015, but did not access the Georgian project until the end of last year. I compiled several hundreds of localized data and redirection links for the Oscar Film festivals and organized by years in the Wikidata and several languages' projects this summer, including submitting the commonly used abbreviation terms with redirection for the available articles in the same pattern without making any change directly to the articles. I double-checked the Georgian news media resources to assure the terms have been used by local journalists for example before submitting about 40 redirection links in the Georgian Wikipedia on June 26.

I can surely accept the different opinions that my edit submissions might not be approved due to my linguistic ability not up to the standard and hence subject to be rejected or deleted, but then without notice nor any warning, you instantly put an half-year ban on my account in the name of "G1 დესტრუქციული მოქმედება" (Destructive action) and set the complete website-wide blocks ever since, including:

1. Access to my own empty Talk/User pages of no content, preventing me from making an appeal, issuing a statement or an explanation.
2. Access to the discussion pages of any administration boards, preventing me from submitting an inquiry.
3. Access to the Wikipedia's internal email system, preventing me from using the communication feature to contact for help.

Since all my access channels of contact and communication in the project was denied immediately without a notification afterwards, it seems that the above critical measures of decision without solution has violated the existing Universal User Code of Conduct of Wikimedia, therefore hereby humbly suggest your excellency reconsider to remove the unnecessary ban properly in accordance with the Good Faith policy of Wikipedia. Hello hello. Thanks for writing and explaining. Let's start from the beginning:

1. When I block someone, it's based on the Georgian Wikipedia rules. I don't check a user's contributions to other Wikimedia projects, as that's not make a sense and I'm guided by the individual's local contributions. So thank you for citing your global contribution;
2. You created dozens of articles that weren't in Georgian, but rather disastrous machine translations. This is affecting the quality and depth of Wikipedia's content. We're trying to improve Wikipedia's depth, but you're making it worse;
3. I can unblock you only if you don't continue your previous behavior, and I recommend you refrain from editing Wikipedia if you don't know the language of that WP. Otherwise, I won't be able to help you, and you can contact the UCoC committee.

Good morning, Thanks for your reply, but I have to beg to differ for the following unfortunate reasons:

1. I have not "created dozens of articles", but the redirection links with the index by year for the referred Oscar ceremony articles, because the current naming pattern is followed by the ordinal numbers, which is less commonly familiar to the general public and cinema fans, so an additional index of redirects can be helpful for the users who only know its year to search for information. Those auxiliary redirects can be easily deleted with the existing procedure if deemed as unnecessary, As I had never touched the original articles, they could not be so dangerous as "affecting the quality and depth of Wikipedia's content" over all.
2. I researched several naming patterns already been used by Georgian news reports in comparison, before adopting the one used in Tbilissi, so I am pretty sure that it was "in Georgian" language, not some random "machine translations", though I fully respect your opinion to call my works as "disastrous", since it is possible that the journalist could make errors sometimes, and there are also different usages and dialects in Georgian regions. However in Wikipedia, we should maintain the "good faith" principle with reasonable discussion to resolve the issue, not jump into conclusion with the guilty presumption to aim for the personal attack in denial of justice instantly.
3. If my submission did not "improve the Wikipedia's depth", but "making it worse", hereby apologize and will surely be more careful. Under such a circumstance, I certainly will not involve much in the Georgian project as you can imagine, hence relax as there is nothing to worry about, but please correct the appealing ban in question due to the inconsistency against the Wikimedia policy to avoid the unnecessary future concerns.
