<center> vs <div with class=center>

Hello,

I am not sure why that edit changes for the better. What are the advantages of using <div with class=center> rather than <center> ? Challwa (talk) 11:09, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

<center> is obsolete and the replacement, in this instance is class=center --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 15:44, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

Thanks, If a edit made to non translate content on page which is marked translation, does it still needed to be approved by translation admin. For example in above page once marked for translation by translation admin any changes made to contact section does it still need to be approved by TA, or This page contains changes which are not marked for translation. this message would showup in this case. --~aanzx · · © 05:23, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

Bosnian templates were imported to the Serbo-Croatian project, so feel free to make edits there as well, if you already haven't. Talk:Global_IP_block_exemptions#Inactivity

Would it be possible to move it to RFC for more attention? aqurs 🍧 15:31, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind but is it really need though? It's just adding an activity requirement and doesn't affect users in any way unless they're inactive. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 00:35, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
There might only have a small amount of users will notice that at the talk page, currently users commented there are 'active' in meta, the proposal might (probably) affect everyone with GIPBE. aqurs 🍧 07:57, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
While I do agree with you that only a small amount of users will notice that. This will only affect users who are inactive for > 1 year, and if they're already inactive, I don't think there's any chance of them participating in this. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 02:37, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.

Not needed?

Greetings Minorax, could you please explain this to me? What's the point of listing eight out of nine languages, and calling the remaining one "not needed"? Thanks, IJzeren Jan (talk) 08:48, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Ideally it should just be a non-exhaustive list so it doesn't require and update to the translation pages whenever a new constructed language wiki is created. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 08:49, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
Okay, I see, but wouldn't you agree that it is strange to list eight out of nine languages? If you want a non-exhaustive list, I'd suggest something like "Esperanto, Volapük" and a few other languages", or somesuch. IJzeren Jan (talk) 20:15, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Cannot find a localization of SRP

When viewing the source of Steward requests/Permissions#Administrator access, I see that the localization of the notes is currently in Steward requests/Permissions/Sysop, but there's a strange thing, I cannot find that page. TA bot

The code is not finished yet, but I plan to complete it soon. Before that, I want to confirm if it is acceptable to test it using my main account, since the bot does not yet have translation admin rights. From what I see, there are over 85 pages with no net changes in the current backlog, so the first run would likely mark more than 85 pages. – DreamRimmer 05:21, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for taking up the task. I think this should be clarified at the BRFA. I'm not a 'crat so I can decide whether you can or cannot test it via your main account. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 05:30, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

WP25 Celebration toolkit spacing and translation markup

Hello minorax! I noticed your edits to Wikipedia 25/Celebration toolkit and appreciate the assistance. It looks like your edits removed some spacing between new lines. The result is text appears on the same line as some of the images and not on a new line by itself. Is that due to something I did incorrectly in the translation markup? I can fix it, but it's happened twice now and I'm not sure what's happening. :) Chris Koerner (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 20:03, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Good day. Blank spaces should go before <translate> and not after. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 23:34, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

File description for file locally deleted on Meta

Would you mind providing me with the original deleted file description for File:DSC03217.JPG? It was locally uploaded to Meta and then transferred to Commons many years ago (as File:Bibliotheca Alexandrina plaza 003.jpg). I uploaded it locally to en.wikipedia because it has freedom of panorama issues and can't be kept on Commons, but then I realized that the sourcing seems a little dicey itself for the photograph. I would ordinarily be inclined to delete it, but I was looking at the early Commons file history and it looks like something might have gotten lost in the transfer from Meta to Commons but there's not enough left in the initial upload to determine for sure. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. IronGargoyle (talk) 15:07, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

It's the same as the English description on commons. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 15:10, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
The odd thing is that the first revision on Commons doesn't seem to make the claim of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina releasing this into the public domain (for which there is no source) but seems to suggest User:Moushira might have been the claimant on the Meta upload. IronGargoyle (talk) 00:36, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
Yeap, Moushira uploaded the file on 24 Sept 2007 with "{PD} Bibliotheca Alexandrina, facing Alexandria University campus". I've undeleted the file for you to dig some stuff that I may have missed but there doesn't seem to be anything useful. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 01:13, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Re:Translation admin

@Minorax, thank you for reaching out to me. I'll do. In any case, it would be very valuable if you could be more specific or point to a specific section or group of sections of the guidelines. I monitor every correction or improvement I receive on the pages I tag for translation, and I make sure to incorporate every feedback I receive.—super n∇bl∇(🪰 msg) 03:52, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

See this for this. And the purpose of tvars is to make it easier to translate content. Special:Diff/29486561 is a redundant fix and now translators needs to update all the individual translation units. Special:MyLanguage/ should not be used for userpages. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 04:06, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

Date intervals

Hi Minorax. Regarding date formats for intervals on pages like this one, I wanted to ask your view on the preferable way to localise them. For an example interval like July 31–August 2, 2015, a simple tag range works well for many European languages:

  • {{dateT||7|31}}-{{dateT|2015|8|2}}

Yet, I suspect this might not render correctly in languages like Chinese or Japanese, where the year is often expected with the first date ("2015年7月31日至8月2日"). Would repeating the year in both tags be the recommended approach?

  • {{dateT|2015|7|31}}-{{dateT|2015|8|2}}

If so, a dedicated template for handling date intervals might be a more valuable long-term solution. Thanks for your expertise.—super n∇bl∇(🪰 msg) 16:12, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

I generally prefer the second option as it eliminates any possibilities of error where different languages have different ways of stating a date range. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 01:55, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Given that the person has repeatedly threatened to reveal my private information and continues to make security threats, and based on the stewards’ confirmation and advice to hide those conversations I had with my account User:lkmmcv, I request that my messages with that account on the Meta talk pages of MdsShakil and Johannnes89 and the replies from those two stewards be hidden to protect my safety and privacy and to prevent these conversations from being used to threaten me by that person. . Radinll (talk) 14:11, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
As discussed with our local OS team, your edits here do not qualify for suppression. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 00:42, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
I have been threatened, and the person said that he would use anything and anywhere to achieve his goal.
On Johannnes89’s talk page, I wrote about my personal conversations with one of the users on fa.wiki, and he replied about. Since I didn't know where to write this matter, I mistakenly posted it on Meta-wiki talk page. Those messages included personal explanations and matters related to my conversations on fa-wiki, and the threatening person is also looking for any clues or explanations to reach his goal.
On MdsShakil’s talk page, I wrote and he replied about a message that I had mistakenly sent to the threatening person on fa.wiki, and I also mistakenly posted this on Meta-Wiki. Now if this person sees these explanations and conversations, he might understand what it was about, find out more information about me, and make further threats..
I would be grateful if you could please hide these conversations. based on the steward’s confirmation and advice, my email address was problematic at that time and I couldn’t send messages privately. Therefore, I had to communicate on their talk pages instead. These are personal conversations, and if my email had been working, I would have sent them privately. Radinll (talk) 06:11, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
Like I've said, your edits here do not qualify for suppression. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 06:17, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
If you still think that your edits requires suppression. Please email Special:EmailUser/Meta-Wiki_oversighters and post specific links and why they should be suppressed. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 06:18, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
I should have written those conversations in an email, since my email account wasn’t working and I didn’t know where to raise this problem, Out of necessity at that time, given the threats, i wrote about the threats made against me at another wiki like fa, i mistakenly publicly on the Meta talk page. As mentioned regarding the communication method to solve these issues, these are personal and private matters and should not have been written in a public place.
-
The next point is that, for example, on Johannnes89’s page, I clearly and accurately wrote that my personal information and private conversations were mentioned in my conversations with the user It is on another wiki, which is the fa wiki. now Why should the messages I had to post publicly out of necessity and not knowing any other way and Which belongs to another wiki and Meta has taken no action on it. now be visible in Meta which contain my personal information mentioned remain visible, be accessible to the threatening user instead of being hidden? Radinll (talk) 07:50, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
Please email Special:EmailUser/Meta-Wiki_oversighters and post specific links and why they should be suppressed. You posting more stuff here isn't helping your case. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 07:52, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Cardiff World AIDS Day editathon

Thanks for your tweaks to the translation-source for World Aids Day 2025/Cardiff Editathon; that {{lwp}} trick is a nice one; I hadn't seen that before.

Out of interest, is there a particular benefit to leaving the headings within the same big <translate> ... </translate> block as the text, rather than how I had previously set it up? I don't have a particular preference between the 2 forms, but I wondered if maybe I should do 😅 — OwenBlacker (Talk; he/him) 13:32, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Including the headings within the translation units provides an anchor for easy linking to sections from other pages. e.g. https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_handbook/fr&action=edit --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 13:34, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Cat translations

This may be a better place to discuss this: why are you removing the translation thing on categories in edits like Special:Diff/29668028? This means Category:Commons-related software is cluttered with many pages all about e.g. WikiShootMe instead of just having one page about it there. See also W308: Enable subcategorizing translated pages on Commons & Metawiki (where this problem is marked as solved). Prototyperspective (talk) 12:03, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Same reason as stated at Category talk:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Editing --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 12:43, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Okay, then I'll just paste my reply from there – let's continue the discussion here:

Yes but could you please add it to the translation system? I don't know how it's done. Also at Category:VisualEditor. (I described the problem in wish W308: Enable subcategorizing translated pages on Commons & Metawiki which is marked as solved but in practice it's debatable how solved this really is.) Btw, it would be much better if you briefly explained your changes, thanks. Also thanks for your translation work at the Wishlist.

I added highlighting to the most important part of my reply. Prototyperspective (talk) 15:13, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
I have my own list of what I'm going to do and is of higher priority. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 01:58, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
Okay, totally fine, but then please don't revert my edit. Prototyperspective (talk) 12:55, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
If you're going to do something, do it fully. Don't leave loose ends for others to clean up. There are many more categories that are clogged up and what you've described is just a small problem. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 17:01, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
1. Well I didn't know more had to be done that I could do if that's the case. I still don't know what if there is. Moreover, I don't see why it's something to "clean up" instead of a todo…I don't see how it causes any problems but see how it marks a page for needing translation tagging.
2. Do you have an idea how this could be addressed at scale or more effectively than currently the case? Prototyperspective (talk) 17:17, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the cleanup, it was a bit of a mess - think there was some batch or Fuzzy backlog going on at the time. — xaosflux Talk 11:27, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Undelete request

Hello. I see that you deleted the image from my Wikipedia entry on 7 August 2025. I am afraid I am a complete Wikipedia amateur and the editor who uploaded the image has advised me to contact you direct and request an undelete. I hope you can help. I can confirm that I purchased the copyright from the photographer and have the receipt and proof of ownership. A dropbox link to these is here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/j5s7lmj7sxk1ggkd7ynl7/Greenlys-photography-June-2025.pdf?rlkey=0d53ijy82qis8o38wkvzlq3wd&dl=0 and very happy to send as attachment etc as needed. If you agree to the undelete, can you help me upload the image again? Thanks. Andrew Ajhvet (talk) 15:45, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello Minorax I am contacting you because you closed the Commons deletion request on 7 August 2025 that resulted in the deletion of File:Andrew Higgins Portrait.jpg (deletion log: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Andrew_Higgins_Portrait.jpg).

I can confirm that I am the copyright holder of this image and I have documentary evidence that proves ownership and my right to license the image under a free license (or to release it into the public domain).

I would very much like the file to be restored and kept on Commons so it can continue to be used on the Andrew Higgins article and elsewhere. Because the OTRS/VRT process is quite complicated for me, I was hoping you could guide me or, if possible, temporarily restore the file yourself so I can send the permission confirmation to the VRT team.

To this end, I can provide:

1. A scan or photo of an official document proving copyright ownership in the form of an email and receipt from the photographer granting me full ownership
2. A statement that I agree to license the image under CC-BY-SA 4.0 (or CC-BY-SA 4.0 + GFDL, or public domain – whichever you prefer)

Please let me know the easiest way forward. I am happy to email the evidence to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with a clear reference to this file and copy you if needed.

Thank you very much for your time and help

Kind regards, Andrew Higgins ajhvet@gmail.com Ajhvet (talk) 17:44, 4 December 2025 (UTC)

Wikimedians of Kerala/Annual Report 2025-26

Hi, Minorax! I tried to untag this draft page: Wikimedians of Kerala/Annual Report 2025-26. I do not understand how to proceed to turn off the tagging mechanism and delete:

Thank you for your guidance.—super n∇bl∇(🪰 msg) 08:21, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi. You would have to go to Special:PageTranslation and remove the page from the system. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 11:22, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

Template:Inprogress/vi

Hmm, I don't understand why you translated this template into a language you don't know? Your translation (Đang dịch...), when translated to English is "Translating...", which is incorrect. Nvdtn19 (talk) 13:47, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

Btw, I realized that the template is not automatically translated when using {{Inprogress}} directly. Is it possible to fix that? Nvdtn19 (talk) 14:22, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
It was based off mw:Translations:Help:Extension:Translate/55/vi. As for the second part, I don't have the time to look at it now but I'll take a look when I'm free. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 12:26, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

Regarding the creation of User page for User:Agamya_Samuel

I need to create a redirect from the page User:Agamya_Samuel to User:Agamyasamuel for easier and clearer name differentiation: Agamya Samuel.

This redirect is needed to maintain consistency in the username format and avoid confusion between similar name variations.

You should probably create a doppelganger account instead. Creating the userpage will do nothing in stopping someone else from creating an account under that name. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 09:48, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. Could you please guide me to the relevant documentation for creating a doppelganger account? I found this
Thanks. -- Agamyasamuel (talk) 09:51, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
