Question: Wikipedia Education Program support for classes[edit]

Hi Nichole,

Does Wikipedia Education Program currently offer support for classes like OLES2129 at the University of Sydney? If so, could you or someone you work with reach out to User:Fransplace to discuss issues with this class? More generally, is there someone at Wikipedia Education Program who can watch and occasionally comment in an official capacity at the Wikipedia:Education noticeboard when issues are raised with classes outside of the US or Canada, (which I understand are covered by wikiedu)? This class is running into a number of problems, possibly because of its large size (290 students) or instructor inexperience. See Wikipedia:Education noticeboard discussion

Thanks,Dialectric (talk) 16:59, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dialectric,
Thanks for the ping. I have a meeting with the new Wikipedia & Education User Group on Monday and will bring this up so that we can best support cases like this. I will update you when we have a more official process.
thanks, NSaad (WMF) (talk) 17:04, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nichole, there is another issue with another one of User:Fransplace's classes, as discussed at [1]. Can someone from Wikipedia Education Program discuss this issue with the instructor? More generally, is there someone at the Education Program who can discuss future issues with international classes on Wikipedia:Education noticeboard? Such issues with non-United States-based classes are relatively infrequent - my estimate is one class issue every 2 or 3 months. Thanks, Dialectric (talk) 15:47, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards

Mobile Week[edit]

Hello Nichole

I am hoping to attend Mobile Week at Unesco. I was told you are coming. May I ask if you could bring me a bunch of leaflets related to Safety events : File:Keeping events safe booklet.pdf. I would need some for the Gender-focused events I organize in my city. Thanks Anthere (talk) 20:06, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Anthere, unfortunately we are all already traveling and are unable to meet this request. If you can get it printed locally that's probably the easiest solution. NSaad (WMF) (talk) 10:36, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Arg. Sorry, I was too slow to ask. Sorry for pointing out what is not obvious but... 1) it is not cost effective to print in small quantities, 2) it is actually not cheap to do printing... and 3) there is currently no easy solution to get micro-funding to do so. Oh well. I will ask Wikimedia France if they can get some more printed in the future or I'll grab some at a future event. Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct[edit]

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct. I am contacting you as you are a member of the Wikimedians for Sustainable Development User Group. If you have received this from other user groups/chapters, you can ignore.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts. Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:

(English) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge. Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks.  If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org)Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoC. Thank you for your participation.
