Your languages?[edit]

I am processing now requests for new languages. I've noticed that you've asked for creation of two Wikipedias: in Tucano and in Baniwa. Are you a native speaker of Baniwa who uses Tucano, too? --Millosh 09:12, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Milosh. Thank you very much for your message and interest. As stated in the requests, I am not a native speaker of either language, unfortunately. Some people strongly involved with the speaking communities and who are currently developing ambitious educational projects within them perceive Wikipedia as a very useful means to create digital knowledge resources in the communities' own native languages and promote their further formal normalization (namely their spelling), as as happened with other minority languages, namely in Europe. Having close contact with them and some limited experience with the creation of new WPs (not under this user name), they asked me to help them go through the necessary steps to create a WP in those languages (alongside with nheengatu, which it turns out had already been created). In a few weeks' time there will be a number of initiatives in a local university where native speakers of those languages will be present (mainly language teachers); I only started these processes in order to ensure that when they are there, in a position to start registering and editing their respective WPs, everything wil already be in place for them to be able to do it. I've explained them that the success of these projects is completely up to their capacity to get involved and contribute individually, though, why it is so, that it involves some hard work in the beginning, etc. I hope this answers your question, but please just let me know if you need any further clarification. Just a short note: I asked Wikimedians who speak Portuguese to help your initiative. If you need any help from the side of Language committee or myself, don't hesitate to ask. --Millosh 09:55, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Where can I see that request, to keep up with any interested people and / or related discussion? Pastorica 10:00, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I asked people from internal-l mailing list, which is not publicly accessible. I think that Portuguese speakers from that list (mostly, members of Wikimedia Portugal board) are the most capable persons to help you and the native community. --Millosh 10:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification and for the help, Milosh. Pastorica 10:37, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Posso traduzir-te assim que as nomeares. Precisas de mais alguma ajuda ou esclarecimento?

Atenciosamente, Béria Lima msg 14:09, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Olá, Béria. :) Agradeço a ajuda.

Tucano and Baniwa eligible[edit]

Requests for Tucano and Baniwa Wikipedias are eligible by decisions of Language committee and WMF Board. You should continue with your work. If any help is needed, please ask Beria or me. --Millosh 08:19, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
