AOL Collateral Damage (Hubert the Hippo)

Sorry to bother you, but Hubert the Hippo (talkcontribspage movesCurrent Autoblocksblock log) is causing quite a bit of collateral damage--AOL user 16:37, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out. I've cleared the autoblocks and will watch more closely for new ones. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Unblock request (Vasanth Seshadri)

Dear Pathoschild,

A mysterious user, Qasqasss, has been using my ip address, presumably by hacking into it. Unfortunately, I have been blocked because of his/her actions. Please unblock me.

Thanks!

--Vasanth Seshadri

I cannot find the block affecting you in the logs. Please paste the contents of the block infobox (screenshot) below so that I can locate the block. Note that IP addresses are often assigned to entire networks, so that many users may share the same IP address. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 06:31, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Unblock request (Gluckman)

Dear Pathoscild,

So is there nothing I can do to get my ip to get unblocked, the ip that has been blocked is my school IP, so obvously anyone at school could have done something —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gluckman (talkcontribs) 07:59, July 19, 2006.

I can lift the block affecting you, but I need to know the details of the block so that I can find it. Please copy and paste the contents of the red box at the top of the blocked message (screenshot); this will provide all the information I need. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:49, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for autoblock removal (Fe80)

Thanks for removing my autoblock, sir! Fe80 20:12, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Overrode your block (Rfhkcmo)

I have unblocked. That name is not sufficiently "random" to be problematic; it's probably his initials and his residence (kcmo = kansas city, missouri). Please be less fascist in the future. Kelly Martin (talk) 01:01, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

The username is typical of accounts created by hitting random keys. Such usernames poorly identify users; whereas one can easily remember and identify with "Kelly Martin" or "Pathoschild", "Rfhkcmo" is an unreadable string of characters— thus the block reason of "confusing". Further, such usernames are often used by bad-faith users too lazy (or automated) to create authentic usernames.
If you have a problem with anything I do, feel free to point it out. I am no more perfect than you are, and in the past have agreed to change my behaviour after users presented valid reasons to do so. My discussion archives show many users politely notifying me of their concerns with a nearly equal number of successful consensuses reached. Please be less inanely belligerent in the future. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:17, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Question (AmazingGrace)

I'd like to thank you for your response to the above user, and complement you in general on your vandalfighting skills. I'm interested to see however what you do to this account, since I have yet to make any deconstructive edits, and I don't plan on making any more... assuming you don't block me :). Amazing Grace 00:36, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. Some administrators may see the messages similar to this one you've posted to several user talk pages as making a point, particularly given your history with AmazingGrace. However, I have no intention of blocking you if you wish to act in good faith. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:59, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Lift of username block (DickwittingtonRidesYouLikeBitches)

Hello Jimfbleak. I noticed that you lifted another administrator's block against DickwittingtonRidesYouLikeBitches, which was applied because the username is inappropriate and hostile. However, you did not provide an unblock reason when you did so. Could you please explain your unblock? // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I was just about to ask the same thing, but DickwittingtonRidesYouLikeBitches (talkcontribspage movesCurrent Autoblocksblock log) might provide some answers. Since there's only 1 autoblock, there's no reason why the indef can't be restored without causing too much harm--152.163.100.70 05:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi, the block is an AOL dynamic address, which as always produces widespread collateral damage. As an AOL user, I get blocked, on a bad day, up to six or seven times as the addresses change, and I sometimes forget to give the reason. My apologies, I'll try to remember, jimfbleak 05:33, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
You know unblocking the name doesn't actually remove any of the autoblocks? all it does is leave the vandal running around, being a vandal--152.163.100.8 05:36, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I keep a close eye on autoblocks in my name when I'm online, so that they're lifted relatively soon after they're applied. Would you mind if I reinstated it and kept the autoblocks clear? // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:39, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

"IKEA" username block?

I know this user doesn't exist, but if you create it, would you be blocked (because it resembles to an existing company IKEA?) --Bigtop 16:57, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

That username would be blocked, although any resulting autoblock would be lifted. Not all owned names are blocked, but well-known ones usually are. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 17:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Please review - not sure about the reason for the block. - CrazyRussian talk/email 04:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Unblock request (Jfraatz)

When I first tried to create the stub Ctenochasma you blocked me. It said the reason had something to do with an open proxy. What's going on here and why did you block me?

Hello Jfraatz. Please provide more information by pasting the contents of the block infobox (see screenshot) below, so that I can locate the block affecting you. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Blocking summaries

Hi Pathoschild, just letting you know that you do not need to use nowiki's in your blocking summaries, templates will not be expanded. —Mets501 (talk) 03:45, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

The block reason is expanded in the blockedtext, which is where the blockee will see it. For an example of this, see "Image:Template expansion in the blockedtext (Wikipedia).jpg" on my wiki, in which I gave the block reason "test <nowiki>{{unblock}}<nowiki> {{unblock}}". // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:38, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

how to change name? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.232.232.213 (talkcontribs) 04:39, September 5, 2006.

The easiest method is to simply create a new username. You might be affected by an 'autoblock' the first time you try to edit with your new account; simply wait a short while and I will lift it. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Deletion-related

Kay Coles James

Hello Evrik. Please note that I have deleted Kay Coles James on Wikisource in accordance with the Deletion policy per criteria for speedy deletion A2 ("...not significantly peer-reviewed or previously published in a significant edition or forum"). If you would like to reopen discussion, you may appeal a deletion as described by the Deletion policy ("Deletion appeal"). Thank you for your interest in our project, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:48, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I answered on your page. __evrik 04:13, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Pathoschild. It would have been nice if I had been informed of the deletion prior to the information going into the netherworld - aren't you supposed to notify people before you delete the information? I posted the information to wikisource on the advice of another admin back in April. The reason was that the information was not long for the federal website from which it came and I was not in a place to write the Kay Coles James article at that time, but had placed her photo and the links to the source info here Office_of_Personnel_Management.
I will acept your apology for not notifying me if you post the deleted information to one of my sandbox pages, say, User talk:Evrik/sandbox/Kay Coles James, and I will get to writing the article later. --evrik
Notifying contributors of deletions is nice, but nonetheless I have no obligation whatsoever to do so. Similarly, I have no obligation to restore deleted content on request. Given your hostile comment, I see no reason to apologize. However, I have restored the deleted content to the sandbox page you suggested— though not for your exemplary courtesy. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
What you perceived as hostile was really aggravation. Thanks for giving me back the lost documents. --evrik 04:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:33, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Anti-semitic jews

At the time I deleted the article, it's content was "ah". However, please cite at least one reliable reference in accordance with the Verifiability policy. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:24, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
I have references by the way:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewbilee
http://www.answers.com/topic/jewbilee

Plus there is a lot of crap about it on urbandictionary.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Superman loves cheese (talkcontribs) 20:26, August 7, 2006.
Urbandictionary is not a reliable reference since it has no enforced policy of accuracy or verifiability, and Wikipedia is not a suitable reference for itself. The About.com reference is a mirror of a Wikipedia article, so it is not suitable either. The spscriptorium page is a dubious reference at best, but feel free to add it to the article; the community will decide whether or not the article is suitable as it develops. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:32, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Never mind I get your point. Wikipedia is not what I thought it was. --Superman loves cheese 20:44, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

User:MutterErde

I just made a redirect from User:MutterErde to his talk page, so that there's no more showing red links. However, don't delete user pages that have double categorisation; you'd simply rather redirect them to user talk pages. There's an error template on MutterErde's talk page after you subst'd it. Can you please fix subst'ing "indefblockeduser", and remove an inappropriate category from the protected user talk page for me? -- ADNghiem501 07:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Many legitimate editors have redlinked userpages; I don't think there's any loss in an a few indefinitely blocked users having them as well. I don't really care either way, though. :) I fixed the {{indefblock}} template, removed the category, and unprotected the page. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I saw something in the history of the indef blocked user's talk page that you also deleted User talk:MutterErde/archive1, though. -- ADNghiem501 22:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Indeed; there's no reason to keep a vandal's subpages. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:04, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

DenyRecognition

Citing essay as policy

Hello. I've noticed you've been deleting deleted pages and such per WP:DENY. However, I believe you should read WP:NOTPOLICY before going any further. (Yes, I realize the page I cited is an essay.) 1ne 15:45, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

(Ironic, that. ;)) I don't recall ever citing it as policy. If you're referring to my delete reasons, the intent of the link is to explain why I'm doing it rather than pretend it's a policy. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
And my point is that deleting something per an essay is essentially pretending it's a policy. (Note that I'm not calling WP:DENY bad, in my opinion it should be policy.) However, sometimes pages like Exicornt do need to be delete protected. 1ne 22:30, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I occasionally link to informative pages when my reasons for an edit are too complex for an edit summary (for example, see Meta oldid 419727), but without any intention of citing it as policy. DenyRecognition contains a highly visible box stating that it is not a policy. If your argument is that the deletions are out of process (not being backed by an official policy), note that there appears to be general community agreement on the deletion of user accounts in blatant violation of policy, as you can see from the DenyRecognition talk page; debate appears over Long-term abuse subpages and subtle sockpuppets.
On that note, I haven't deleted any delete-protected pages, although delete-protection can encourage vandalism as well; that is particularly true in the case of the vandal you refer to, which attempted to legitimise the word through Google hits. Unfortunately, that particular vandal succeeded somewhat well; see the 1230 search results, with the page you linked to as top result. A better solution is to delete the page and add it to one's watchlist. Anyone who does so will see the entry with a bolded "N" on their watchlist, making it easy to spot recreation. A few administrators watching the page would completely negate the need to allow it to exist, with the resulting Google indexing.
All that said, DenyRecognition is a general essay about vandal notoriety; interpretation is up to the reader. It makes no mention of deleting delete-protected pages, so any problems with that should be brought up with the administrator who does it. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:07, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm aware of watchlists. That said, it's still not a policy. If debate appears, don't make your essay out to be policy. 1ne 06:49, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
I never did. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 10:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Deleting stuff per an essay is making it out to be policy. 1ne 23:54, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
You have the right to your opinion. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 01:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
What's that supposed to mean? You're making it out to be policy. That's not my opinion, that's fact. Should I write an essay on threatening vandals (violating NPA, but who cares, hey) and treat it as policy? 1ne 07:00, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
It is indeed your opinion, much as it is my opinion that one can link to a page without insinuating that it is policy. Would you assume the same if I corrected a misspelling and linked to Wikipedia:List of common misspellings? You are free to write an essay on threatening vandals, although I suspect other users would care about violations of No personal attacks. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 18:22, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
"Would you assume the same if I corrected a misspelling and linked to Wikipedia:List of common misspellings?" How is that an essay? 1ne 20:06, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
That's exactly my point. Linking to a page says nothing about its status, it just links to the page. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Since it's now policy (apparently), I'll change it from "essay" to "guideline". And yes, deletedprotected pages have been deleted under WP:DENY. 1ne 02:55, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Rules

I noticed that on the Recent Changes. I'm new here, so i'm assuming from your actions is that rules on Wikipedia are made by whoever says whatever they're doing is the rules without being stopped. Is that right? Atlantic Gateways 01:06, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Not at all. Wiki rules are, much like the community itself, in constant flux and adaptation. They are usually proscriptive: that is, they describe what not to do, rather than what to do. Behaviour and actions are thus largely left to the individual user, so long as they don't violate one of the prohibitions. The deletion of old userpages for indefinitely blocked users, with demonstratable backing from the community, does not violate any policy that I am aware of. The action is neither unfounded (being based on a principle with wide support) nor unilateral (with similar actions based on the same principle being performed by at least two other administrators). It is not policy because it does not need to be, unless we wish to define a policy for every edit and action possible. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Deleting inappropriate usernames

I've noticed you removed my CSD from 5 users' namespace pages, whose names are inappropriate or offensive, including libels, but not too similar to existing user(s). Users for having inappropriate usernames often have no edit contribs and deliberately have chosen to attack other editors rather than to disparage them. Some redlinked usernames like these have not been tagged. It's better to delete such usernames, since I see User:Pathoschild has deleted them alot. See his deletion log. I just wanted to inform you that I'm desiring to put them for speedy deletion. But why are there no reasons to delete them? -- ADNghiem501 08:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I removed the tag because, for one, it is not a WP:CSD. Also, just deleting the userpage won't do anything to the account; the account will still exist (and if the account were deleted, which is a very hard thing to do in itself, it would actually just open that username up to being created by some vandal again). The users are blocked on sight anyway. While Pathoschild does delete them (with WP:DENY), most admins do not, and putting them in CAT:CSD just clogs it up. --Rory096 08:29, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Can you take a look at User_talk:ADNghiem501#Deleting_inappropriate_usernames. You can answer there. -- ADNghiem501 03:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, the category is for pages matching the official criteria for speedy deletion; DenyRecognition is not such a criteria. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 01:58, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of userspace pages

Please be more careful when deleting pages from userspace... if not notification prior to deletion, then a notification after the deletion would be nice... --Dijxtra 16:42, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Should I be worried?[1] And -- is it appropriate to ask about it? Amnewsboy 03:28, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

There's no inappropriateness in asking such questions, particularly on a user talk page. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.
Any such request for comment would most likely be deleted because the requirements have not been met. One must attempt previous steps of the dispute resolution process, prove that there is a valid dispute, and have at least two users attempt and fail to resolve it. Additionally, any such request brings all participating editors into examination, which means that users will be free to comment on CoolKatt number 99999 as well. You have nothing to worry about, since you have done nothing wrong. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:46, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification; I'm a little new to the whole disciplinary (for lack of a better term) aspect to Wiki. Between the RfCs and RfIs, it's hard to keep everything straight. Amnewsboy 03:50, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I expect the same in Amnewsboy's, as he has done absolutely nothing wrong and CoolKatt has abused RfC in the past, it seems with every RfC CoolKatt makes, you take each one less and less seriously. --CFIF (talk to me) 14:54, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

CFIF is being ridiculous. RfC's are a form of expressing one's feelings. CoolKatt number 99999 02:46, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Requests for comments are an important step of the dispute resolution process in which a user seeks advice and comment from the wider community. They are not simply a form of expression. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:35, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Interwiki map

Hi User:Pathoschild,
I added a request to Interwiki_map some time ago, and I was just wondering if you know how to get that page processed? It appears as though you are the one who generally looks over it when you have time. I would greatly appreciate it (since I'm not an admin) if you get a moment to go through the proposals.
Thank you very much,
-SColombo 18:07, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll clear the backlog over the next few days. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Another one to watch

I tried earlier to put the Equestrianism page on the watch list, but haven't heard back (probably due to backlog) A user named Maywither keeps putting up a nude photo of a woman on horseback that is completely inappropriate to the content. I warned him, (and he has several other warnings on his page, from other people about other articles) and put his name in for the vandal watch, too. When he does this, it sometimes goes 24 or more hours before it's caught and reverted, he's done it at least five times. So keeping an eye on this page, which gets less traffic, is a good idea. Thanks! Montanabw 17:51, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

The problem seems to be with Maywither rather than Equestrianism; try filing a request for investigation into Maywither instead. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Did so on Aug 21, there' a backlog on the page, apparently, that's where nothing has been happening. Since I posted there, he still reverted his favorite photo into the Equestrianism article since. It's getting very tiresome. Can anyone just block him from editing equestrianism? It seems to be his favorite prank and the various vandal bots don't seem to catch that one as fast as a lot of the others? (or can we dump the photo? It really is more porn than art...) I'm still fairly new to wikipedia and don't know how all the tools can be used. I also don't monitor constantly... help! Montanabw 03:47, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I've watchlisted Montanabw in the English Wikipedia countervandalism channel until we can clear the backlog. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 13:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Wait a second! **I** am Montanabw! I'm not the vandal, I'm REPORTING the vandal who is user:Maywither?? Clarify  ??? Montanabw 23:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
That was a typo. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 23:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

template:unverified user

I've noticed that you've recently blocked many suspicious accounts, with requests to contact you for verification. I thought that you might find {{unverified user}} helpful. It could save you a lot of typing! ;) --Ixfd64 00:44, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't actually type anything; I wrote TemplateScript for one-click user-defined form-specific templates. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:47, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Whoa, that's awesome! I should try it some time! --Ixfd64 00:49, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Feel free. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District

Hello Nebular110. Note that I've speedy deleted Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District and as the unnecessary AFD subpage you created. When you see a copyright violation within the first fourty-eight hours of creation, you can tag it for speedy deletion using {{db-copyvio}}. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:03, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I figured it had already been deleted when there was no longer a link to it on WP:AFD. That was the first time I had requested an article for deletion. I figured that it probably met speedy deletion criteria but I wasn't sure so I decided to list it at AFD instead. --Nebular110 04:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:32, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Returning sockpuppet

Hi, stranger. Thinking of staging a comeback and I've been doing some new pages patrolling as a result. You have a real sockpuppet problem here. I can't believe the number of vandals to boot. This guy is particularly annoying: User:A stoooodent at wilson. Dude thinks leet speak is a hoot. I voluntarily asked to have my sysop rights removed or I'd nail him myself. He's evading a previous block under a slightly different name. - Lucky 6.9 16:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Ah, looks like someone got him. One more favor: Could you or some other admin unlock my user page? An admin was kind enough to protect it...but I can't unprotect it at present.  :) Thanks.--Lucky 6.9 16:08, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello Lucky 6.9. You can coordinate administration in #vandalism-en-wp on Freenode, where administrators actively fulfill such requests. Asking there is often quicker than asking on-wiki. I see someone already unprotected your page, too. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:12, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Editing

London

Hello Dev920. You re-added the text of London to London (poem), citing WP:S&P— which doesn't seem to exist. Were you referring to an existing page? // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:12, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I meant WP:L&P - it says short songs and poems should be added. Additionally the guidelines for Wikiproject poetry also say to add short poems. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dev920 (talkcontribs) 11:08, July 9, 2006.
Thank you for pointing that out. I've added the link to Wikisource back in, as it allows users to visit Wikisource and browse the rest of Blake's collection. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 18:06, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Insulting messages

I wanna know why you keep sending me insulting messages. I want an answer immedietly.--Qasqass 04:22, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello Qasqass. I'm not sure which messages you're referring to; I don't recall sending any to you. Could you be more specific? // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:24, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Since you seem to have placed this message on multiple user talk pages, I'll assume this message is spam and should not be taken seriously. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:28, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Erroneous indefblock template

Hello Mets501. You placed {{indefblock}} on Sockpuppet of vandal's userpage (and an equivalent on their talk page), but didn't block them. I assume that was a mistake. ;) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

You're right, it was a mistake :-). I got called away from my computer right before actually blocking the user and must have forgotten to block afterwards. —Mets501 (talk) 03:17, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

An award!

Welcome back

Erm so what did you miss... Well how about this recent event for starters. In other news userbox wars are subsiding with the German solution (moving them to userspace) proceeding; process vs product arguments becoming more common on WP:DRV with certain admins deciding they are the final authority on these things (is that new?); RFA standards seem to have risen to new ridiculous levels with some people opposing for having less than 5,000 edits and creating 40 new articles somehow isn't enough; in Esperanza elections are underway for the new council (I'm in them, loosing, but not horribly badly). How's that for an amazingly selective and biased summary based on the more recent events that are still in my mind? Petros471 10:01, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, though I can't say I'm particularly enchanted by the changes in my absence. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:35, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeh I haven't really picked the most optimistic things there have I... I'm sure there's plenty of good stuff as well :) Go and read some of the new featured articles or gasp in awe at some of the amazing featured pics. Petros471 16:43, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Good to see that you are back! (I was just becoming active and vaguely remember your userpage before the departure notice.) The Signpost Archives are a great resource to catch up on changes. GChriss 20:13, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll look through the archives. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:30, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, and I hope your wikibreak goes well. Sorry for the delay in responding; I seem to have missed your comment. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:59, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

No Open Proxies

Re WP:OP

Hi Pathoschild, just wondering if you could point me in the right direction to the page for applying to check / scan open proxies.
TA--Deon555|talk 10:37, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Yep; just ask on the WikiProject on open proxies talk page. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 14:42, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, what am I looking for on your userpage? --Cat out 16:14, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

While I was using the pseudonym pathospersona, you asked who I was; I responded by linking to my Wikipedia username. If you're looking for something on my userpage, I don't know what it is. ;) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Wiktionary

Welcome

We're always glad to see visitors from the other wikis, too. Here's our standard welcome, with links to preferred formatting material and other help.

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the beer parlour or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Dvortygirl 04:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

'Beer parlour'? I suppose it's no more odd than 'Scriptorium' or 'Village pump'. Thanks for the welcome. :) // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 04:39, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

deletion requests

Please don't use {{delete}} - it is a compatability thing, that is supposed to help Wikipedians find {{rfd}} (which for categories, and all non-NS:0 items go into WT:RFDO, not WT:RFD.) --Connel MacKenzie 03:37, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out; I've fixed all my nominations for speedy deletion. Shouldn't {{delete}} make some note of this? It currently gives no indication that {{rfd}} exists at all. :) // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 04:06, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

transwiki

The old-style transwiki entries had to include the edit history to comply with the GFDL. --Connel MacKenzie 06:55, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I didn't remove them; see the new template which explicitly links to a page containing only the old edit history. // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 06:56, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm. Looking at the diff, I incorrectly thought you were referring to the Wikipedia entry (which of course will be/has been deleted.) Why would you want to hide that? --Connel MacKenzie 07:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
For later relevance, this discussion continued on IRC. My compressed responses: "Talk pages aren't intended for that kind of information. Big tables of data (particularly with large edit histories) tend to confuse new users who just wanted to post a suggestion, and now have no idea what's going on. The template separates the history from discussion, much as is done with the current edit history, using a convenient previous history link that makes it easy to access. The template is small and intuitive. :)"
"Writing a script to convert to the new table format for edit logs is on my to-do list; I'm writing a metascript on Wikisource to make regex conversion scripts easy to write." // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 07:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow. OK, the new format was so different from what I'm used to seeing, it threw me off. Yes, I agree your format is a much-needed improvement. --Connel MacKenzie 07:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Notice

Congratulations with your sysop appointment, and welcome to the official Wiktionary Cabal. If possible, could you fill in the timezone and babel levels on Wiktionary:Administrators/List of administrators? Cheers, — Vildricianus 20:02, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
