Invitation to participate in academic study on Wikipedia content integrity risks

[edit]

Hi - I am a PhD researcher at the University of Washington currently working on an interview study on content integrity and disinformation risks across various Wikipedia language editions. Based on your experiences editing several Wikipedia language editions, we would like to invite you to participate. For more information on our research project, including a link to a short initial recruitment questionnaire, please see the following study information page: https://wiki.communitydata.science/Content_Integrity_and_Disinformation_Risks_Across_Wikipedia_Language_Editions.

Thank you for your time. --Zarinek (talk) 00:36, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

U vezi onog

[edit]

– Croatia 925 (talk) 22:10, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

A minor problem with User:Ponor/inline-diff-inline-patrol.js

[edit]

Your inline-diff-inline-patrol tool does not work with non-contributions pages on the English Wikipedia. I assume this is related to the fact that the RecentChanges format on enwiki is a table instead of a list for some reason. JJPMaster (she/they) 22:49, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey @JJPMaster. Thanks for using my script. I think that's because you have the "Group results by page" option turned on (that little frame on the right where you choose the number of changes and days shown); currently, that's not supported because of a completely different design of the list by MediaWiki, which I didn't want to deal with because things get a little messy. Happy New Year! ponor (talk) 23:31, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, that was it, thank you! And a happy new year to you as well. JJPMaster (she/they) 23:32, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Web2Cit improvements

[edit]

Hi, @Ponor!

I'm writing to you because you are listed as one of the top contributors to Web2Cit collaborative configurations. Thank you for your support!

I'm considering applying for a Rapid Fund grant to support working on some long-pending tasks to improve user experience, fix annoying bugs and encourage developer participation.

I'm still deciding on the list of tasks I will include in the proposal. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it if you could leave your feedback here.

Thank you! Diegodlh (talk) 16:13, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Tool for tracking script updates

[edit]

Hello User:Ponor,

I’m sharing a small Toolforge project that might be relevant as you work with user scripts and gadgets regularly.

WikiScriptSync helps track changes to .js and .css files hosted on GitHub or GitLab and sends a notification when updates are detected. It does not make any edits on-wiki, it only helps you stay aware of changes, and stay updated with the latest version.

We encourage you to try it, and share your feedback or suggestions.

Wish

[edit]

Oh, yeah... I figured out a lot of search string to find problems:

  • insource:/cs1 maint:/i: sometimes the cite template from enwp had some problems and the translate tool bring the same problems, but as the text is "transcluded", this gibberish text is part of the content.
  • insource:"noprint Inline": sometimes the citation needed template is transclued and includes this kind of error
  • insource:/data-template-mapping/: from the first versions of data-template
  • insource:"mw-reflink-text": from the first versions of citation tool
  • insource:"ISBN <bdi>": like others: from transclution
  • insource:/Categor(y|ía):CS1/ this one is similar the first, but it focus if the category is inserted. Consider that is regex, so Category and Categoría are valid in Spanish Wikipedia. - we don't use it in eswp

I found more problems, but I'm solving not only about including references. I've working with this problem about 3 years... and counting. Thanks for creating the idea/wish <3 Superzerocool (talk) 12:40, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Superzerocool Oh, that's crazy. The tool is very helpful, but so abandoned. I used to use it a lot more, but a few times the original page got updated while I was still translating and my whole translations were reset - lost hours of work. So now I translate as fast as I can, and fix what needs to be fixed after publishing. I do not want to overwhelm our developers with all sorts of bugs, I'll be happy for all of us if they fix the issue in my wish first (it looks like they're deciding on what to work on next - that's why I thought it's important to get enough support from our wikis). I've just added a few good examples at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T287936; once we fix these errors, they're hard to find. May I suggest you make your collection of diffs too? ponor (talk) 12:55, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure, this one (a regular), other (including usage of CS1 things) and the last one (template facts to citation need in eswp). Do you want I attach to ticket on Phab or the wish? Superzerocool (talk) 13:16, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Superzerocool Phabricator might be a better place, though a separate ticket would be better for templates other than citation templates or <ref> in general. I hope it won't take another 7+ for someone to start noticing :'( ponor (talk) 13:34, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Web2Cit template paths

[edit]

Hi @Ponor! Thank you for being a Web2Cit contributor!

Some translation templates you have worked on may need attention. Could you help us fix them?

Translation templates should be based on specific webpages and ideally should have corresponding translation tests indicating the expected output. This is important for maintainability, so other contributors can understand why a template has been set in some way, and so the Web2Cit Monitor can detect when citations break.

We found some templates for paths that do not have a corresponding test. This is usually because the path is generic (i.e., not corresponding to a specific webpage of interest; e.g., / or /**), or simply because a translation test hasn't been defined for that path.

Here's a list of domain configurations you have contributed to, and corresponding template paths for which no tests have been defined. Other editors may have contributed to these files as well and they will or have been notified too.

To help us, for as many of these paths as you can, could you please make sure:

  1. that it corresponds to a specific webpage of interest, and
  2. that a corresponding translation test has been defined?

For the full list of domains affected, you can check our new Web2Cit Monitor Results with missing tests category.

Note that to help prevent this issue in the future, the templates editor has been updated to only accept paths that already have a test defined.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you again for your support!

Thank you for taking care of these, @Ponor! We have 100% test coverage for these domain configurations now. Yeay!! Diegodlh (talk) 02:25, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
