Emails

Hi Praxidicae. I've send two emails to you, of which especially the second one is important. Please take a look & reply. Trijnsteltalk 19:18, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

alychidesign spam

I think that the filter changes made in late November are now capturing all this spam. If you notice any getting through, please let me know where, and I will see what I can do to further improve the filter.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:53, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

GS and 2FA

Hi Praxidicae, would you please follow up at phab:T211532 regarding the report you have that global sysops are unable to activate 2FA? Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 02:40, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

I will follow up in the AM. I was able to activate it via MediaWiki as I have local sysop. Praxidicae (talk) 02:44, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
Have you been able to get any more details on this? Noone else seems to be having this problem when they test, as reported in phab:T211532. — xaosflux Talk 03:46, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Abuse filter helpers

I think that you should apply for membership to this group (as shown at Special:GlobalGroupPermissions) from the stewards, and guessing that it would be through SRGP. If you do, please let me know as I will support the application, even blame me if you wish.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:26, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

updated AF/69

I have updated AF/69 to hopefully stall some of the create.pikto... spam. I will look further at the filters to see what else we need to do. I am noticing that spambots are throwing more benign edits to try to look true.

FWIW we may need to just blacklist create.pikto... or maybe we write a stronger abusefilter just for that. If you think that blacklist alone is the means to proceed, please just poke a note at Talk:Spam blacklist. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:05, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

Cross-wiki spam at zhwiki

Hi Praxidicae,

This is 1233, a user from zhwiki. May you please, when you want to nominate an article for speed deletIon at the Chinese WIkipedia, please use {{d|g3}} ? It means pure spam.
Many thanks
--1233 | Questions?| This message is left by him at 18:06, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

To clarify, please use{{d|g1}} for patent nonsense, {{d|g3}} for result of obvious vandalism and {{d|g11}} for blatant advertising material. We can't proceed with speedy deletion without explicitly stating the local CSD applying to the page, per local policy. Thanks. --無聊龍 (talk) 18:17, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Cambodia New Year Legend

Hello Praxidicae, can you please take a look at the above article? Phnom Penh Skyline and some of their socks are creating inappropriate articles there. Thanks--BRP ever 18:58, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Please cancel your revert on consensus page on Sindhi Wiktionary

Hi, I observed that you have reverted the edit by a user on the consensus page of Sindhi Wiktionary, where its currently ongoing voting for a sysop, I don't see it a vandalism, so please revert back/rollback your edit to the previous edit by مصعب thanks. JogiAsad (talk) 17:06, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

My deepest apologies, I must have mistakenly done that! Praxidicae (talk) 17:08, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Black list on irc-cvn

Hi! I saw that I'm in global blacklist on irc-cvn. Why? I think that I'm not a vandal. Please remove me from blacklist. Thanks!--DiMon2711 15:13, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm not an operator of that channel. Praxidicae (talk) 15:14, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
ok. In this case, to whom I can contact?--DiMon2711 15:17, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
I would guess in #wikimedia-ops, I'm not even a member of that channel currently. Praxidicae (talk) 15:18, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
You blocked yourself and it added you to the autoblacklist. Vermont (talk) 15:25, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
@Dimon2711: Not sure if this is an issue but I'm a CVN Staff member do you still need assistance? --Cameron11598 (talk) 19:01, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
thanks but Aldnonymous has already helped me. Cheers, DiMon2711 19:04, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Romani Wikipedia

Hi, I'm a sysop on huwiki and I saw you blocked an anon on rmywp (Romani Wikipedia) so I'd like to talk about it and I'd like to ask your help.

There is a Hungarian user named Ђорђе Вуковић who's recieved a global block due to cross-wiki abuse. It didn't stop him because then he was uploading hoax and racist content to the huwiki as an anon and he always change his IPs. Fortunately we stopped him with two new abuse filter.

Now he's unable to vandalize the huwiki but he countinue his activity on other wikis eg enwiki, rmywiki, slwiki and rowiki by spamming his 'demand'. As you can se the recent changes on rmywiki is full with his vandalism. I'd like to help against him (especially on rmywiki because there is only a few user who could notice and revert the vandalism) but I'm just a simple user there. Is there any solution, tool or user group for me to make it more effency? – Balint36 🚌 bus stop 14:25, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

@Balint36: You could probably run for sysop there (I can explain more later, about to run to some meetings today, sorry this will be brief.) I will also help work on a global filter that should help on the samller wikis. He jumps through a lot of ranges, so I'm not even sure a rangeblock is feasible but perhaps you can also share the filter with someone here (Billinghurst?) and they can also implement it globally. Praxidicae (talk) 14:28, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Rangeblock won't work because in most cases he uses public networks (ÖBB free wifi or eduroam network of the University of Vienna). Our filters are a kinda dumb but at least they are working (69, 70). – Balint36 🚌 bus stop 15:17, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Balint36 Brief Proceedure to run for sysop at a wiki: Go to the village pump, can find the page here d:Q16503. Just say you need sysop access (preferably in that language). After 7 days, even 0 votes, you can apply a steward to grant you the right on SRP. It may be temporary, but you can renew after it ended. Hope it helps. A temp sysop is usually more useful in these cases if there are few or no local sysops. Do revert if not appropriate talk page stalking Praxidicae, sorry. --Cohaf (talk) 14:37, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Cohaf Thanks, I'll check out. Unfortunately I can't speak in Romani. – Balint36 🚌 bus stop 15:17, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Balint36 Last comment before Praxidicae kill me, if you are there to clean up, you don't have to speak that language. We have temporary sysops who don't know the language they are doing sysop work in. We in SWMT also revert / cleanup wikis without knowing the language. Due caution is needed only and mostly the local users will be kind. Feel free to ask me about SWMT/ Temp Sysops on my talk. Okay, end hijacking another user talkpage. --Cohaf (talk) 15:21, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Comment Comment Only done a quick read, so only some quick comments. 1) Imported two filters to rmyWP from huWP. 2) If assistance is needed with abusefilter, then I have some expertise, though no expert, though we can find experts. 3) We also have Mediawiki:titleblacklist and the <autoconfirmed> if ne4eded. 4) Re adminship, if you cite in your application that your sole purpose is to clean up a type of vandalism as a means to assist, that is sufficiently contextual for the community to agree, disagree, or remain mute.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:12, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Please have a pause on swwiki

Hi Praxidicae, you came in with a lot of edits. Obviously there is a problem that you do not understand the articles you try to improve. Like the delete tag you put on Mr Puaz without giving any reason and without reacting when I asked you about on your sw-talk page. That is not our style of working at sw-wikipedia. We have had a number of non-Swahili speakers who have contributed a lot of valuable content by communicating.

I request you to make a pause now and let us have a discussion about your way of contributing first. You removed content which sometimes was put in by longtime editors. In such cases we expect a newcomer to do some research and to contact the editors before proceeding. You may understand (or not yet) that in a language like Swahili there is sometimes not much reference in our language. Editors have to decide if we use English language references and which ones. That decision depends on some understanding of the cultural context. It does not necessarily help if you try to import here the usage of say, enwiki, without communicating. Are we together? Kipala (talk) 17:55, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Kipala I've responded to you there as well. Can you please clarify specifically what edits you find problematic? I haven't touched the Puaz article since 2018. Praxidicae (talk) 17:59, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
I see you removed the content from your sw-talk page. Well, if you want to be helpful in the context of a small African language wikipedia, it would be great if you did not just tell us it is all forbidden and "blatant terms of use violations" but be a bit more specific and take the time to tell us case-by-case, best before taking action (and if there are community decisions, thez surely can be shown). Because small wikipedias still afford to take a bit of time for each other. Cheers! Kipala (talk) 19:12, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
KipalaA case by case basis would take months, there are literally thousands of these urls put onto sw-wiki by multiple now globally locked accounts and even several by an administrator there and Wikimedia projects cannot host such content. I'm not aware of any policy that would require a community consensus to remove terms of use violating material. Additionally, you effectively banned me from editing rather than actually asking me about the specifics and when I did give them to you, told me I was wrong on the basis that it's acceptable there. I'm not harming the project in any way, however those urls are. Praxidicae (talk) 19:17, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
I was just passing though here on the CVN issue above but am I reading this right? You were removing spam links and Kipala took issue with it? So Sw wiki wants spam? Kipala, Why are you opposed to removing links that are clearly malicious or spam? Those links would only harm the SW community. --Cameron11598 (talk) 19:20, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
I'll also add that I fail to understand your reasoning in the slightest. You say twice that because you are a small wiki and there are often not suitable sources for/in your language, however nearly every single link is in English or otherwise not in Swahili and on subjects that are broad and do have more than enough available sourcing in virtually every language and are not spam. Praxidicae (talk) 19:21, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
And also for the record, [1] this is a list of urls I removed from only two articles - none of these urls are in Swahili and at least half of them are scams. Praxidicae (talk) 19:29, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Kipala I'm a scientist with degrees in pharmaceutical chemistry and in analytical chemistry specialising in drug analysis, and I can assure you that those websites are not suitable, reliable sources and should not be used on any Wikimedia site. Please aid Praxidicae in removing those URLs from your project. Thanks. Nick (talk) 19:37, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Personally, though I understand Kipala's reasons, I have very much appreciated Praxidicae's help. Peace to you all! --Riccardo Riccioni (talk) 09:50, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

This talk was moved by Praxidicae here from her talkpage at swwiki, where the discussion continued at sw:Jumuia. I move from there the close of that discussion.Kipala (talk) 13:02, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Praxidicae As for your remark about clarifying my question: I reacted to the list you posted upstairs. Now let me say that I am grateful for your intervention because we have learned something which had not recognized. Having said this, I imagine this interaction could have proceeded smoother with some communication before. None of us had seen a previous warning from you to Jimmwandishi (the account edited swwiki only, plus 4x commons) which would have helped to understand the need for action. (Please enlighten me: is this not the usual procedure? That is at least what I remember from here and what we follow except in extrem cases (his hidden links to the "freelancinghackers" I consider as such but you had not reached there). Previous communication would have enabled us to recognize the problem, do the removals (with guidance fom you?) and avoid the problem we have now of checking for the mutilated pages left behind by his clumsy way of setting links you removed. Another point for me to ask you to pause for a while was that I saw not only links but also some correct and unlinked text passages removed (see above, I think it does matter to some extent if I understand the language or not.). Then you list some links as "spam" which are definitely not (like nation.co.ke) which made me wonder. Please rest assured that I have great respect for your work. The question of communication remains. Kipala (majadiliano) 11:32, 6 Julai 2019 (UTC)
Thanks to God for the good conclusion of the case. I also have learnt from it. I revised many times the contributions of Jimmwandishi, Hreflafa and JanethKihumba, I guessed also they were the same person, I deleted many of their openly commercial links, I reproached them sometimes and menaced to block them, but I stopped there. When Praxidicae so strongly came in, I appreciated. Let's go on together in peace! --Riccardo Riccioni (majadiliano) 07:34, 7 Julai 2019 (UTC)

Estonia and Finland

Hi Praxidicae! You've nominated three of my sites for deletion for spamming. This is strange 'cause I have made about 90 000 edits and 99% of them are useful. It seems that I've been the most active editor at English Wikiquote, for example, during the last two years. At most wikis I've placed images where there were none. So what's this "spamming"? Best regards.--Risto hot sir (talk) 21:09, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

we call that vanity spam. Additionally you don’t appear to be notable in any language. Praxidicae (talk) 21:15, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
There was a voting at fi-Wikipedia two years ago and the result was KEPT.--Risto hot sir (talk) 21:41, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Again, your edit count doesn't matter at all, not in the slightest. I would appreciate if you don't continue going around using your edit count as an argument as to why you're right. Statistically speaking, much less than 99% of your edits are useful considering the majority of your edits are at projects where you're presently blocked for civility problems or other issues. Hypothetically, if it was 99% useful edits, that's still 900 unconstructive edits which is not something to brag about. Regarding you making articles and pages about yourself, after a quick check it seems you don't meet the notability criteria of any Wikipedia I've edited content on, although it is of course up to local communities to decide on it. Vermont (talk) 01:38, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
Fun fact: Risto's article on Finnish Wikipedia was kept by one vote, and he himself was one of the "keep" voters. -kyykaarme (talk) 15:42, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

If you don't understand Estonian or Finnish it's useless to evaluate my notability.--Risto hot sir (talk) 11:45, 12 July 2019 (UTC) - All edits unreverted are useful.--Risto hot sir (talk) 12:09, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Can you sort of explain in English how are you notable? I don't see any fantastic achivements you have except being blocked in multiple wikis. I don't see any independent sources covering you? I don't think you are notable and that's I agree it's vanity spam. --Cohaf (talk) 11:50, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
I'm not notable in English speaking world for sure, but have written the best palindrome books in the universe, mostly Finnish of course. But only the local wikis are able to decide. Case closed.--Risto hot sir (talk) 12:15, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Some pages you deleted on ki.wikipedia.org

Hello, I am interested in linguistics (especially Gĩkũyũ) and botany, contribute usually on ja.wikipedia.org, sometimes on en/ja.wiktionary.org, etc. and sporadically visit ki.wikipedia.org expecting something interesting. The day before yesterday I happened to go there and noticed your deletion activity. It seems that some of the pages, however, do not deserve deletion since the contents are correct, not "spam." I understand partially at least three among them: ki:Nyenje (cockroach), ki:Ngunguni (bedbug; actually ngũngũni) and ki:Indo cia kũrũga (property of cooking; maybe the last word is kũruga, indeed). Respectively as follows:

  • Nyenje: Nyenje (cockroach in English) is a kind of tutambi which appear often on a corner of a kitchen and like to eat matigio of food. Nyenje is seen within the order called Blattodea. (...)
  • Ngunguni: Ngunguni or bed bug is a kind of tutambi which bite and drink human blood at nighttime. (...)
  • Indo cia kũrũga: A Gĩkũyũ eats many kinds of foods of the culture. (...)

Note that tutambi is plural form of gatambi, whose meaning I do not know but might be 'insect' judging from the contexts. The expression for 'insect' I know is kanyamũ (kanini). Even other pages do not seem so strange; at least they are things other than "spam." --Eryk Kij (talk) 00:51, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

All of the pages I deleted were created by globally locked SEO spammers. I have no objection to their recreation but the creation by those accounts were not legitimate and were nothing more than poorly translated spam to sell products. Praxidicae (talk) 11:25, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Regarding your input

Hello there!

I replied to your input on my OTRS application, I appreciate you expressing your input in there. I’ve recently started editing more actively on the Wikimedia projects and I can understand that while many worry about hat collecting, that won’t be found with me. Rights are given with the understanding and expectation of them being used in the right manner, and that’s how I operate. Respectfully, your reply came off as a bit rash with the assumption of me hat collecting as well as correcting my use of the term administrative work. I can see the disconnect of where I used the work but found it applicable to use. --Giooo95 (talk) 16:53, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Giooo95 Then please heed my advice and refrain from requesting advanced permissions until you've demonstrated knowledge in the areas you're asking as well as gained community trust. Praxidicae (talk) 16:56, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
Praxidicae - I will gladly take what you’ve said and will continue to work on the projects I’m on. I don’t mean to come off rude or anything, I’m just not too keen on rash or unfounded accusations of hat collecting. Wishing you the best. --Giooo95 (talk) 16:59, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Revert wars

Please don't participate with them on my talk page, and I would suggest on any user talk page. I am happy to manage my talk page when I come online unless you think that another administrator or steward needs to intervene.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:19, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
