Re: translation rights[edit]

I received your email. I don't understand what translation rights you're talking about. If you need rights on this wiki, you can ask at WM:RFH. General information on our translation processes may be useful to understand what permissions are needed where, and are available at mw:Help:Extension:Translate, Meta:Translate extension, translatewiki:FAQ. Review of initial updates on Wikimedia movement strategy process[edit]

Note: Apologies for cross-posting and sending in English. Message is available for translation on Meta-Wiki.

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.

Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list, and posted on Meta-Wiki. Beginning with this message, monthly reviews of these updates will be sent to this page as well. Sign up to receive future announcements and monthly highlights of strategy updates on your user talk page.

Here is a review of the updates that have been sent so far:

Facebook experiment[edit]

Hi, I couldn't find any follow-up to this experiment, could you please update the page with the information that you might have or point me where to find it? Thanks--Micru (talk) 00:50, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New CentralNotice[edit]

I notice that you created a few pages relating to a possible new CentralNotice related to the ongoing pandemic. Are you intending to create a proposal page to start a new notice? (Note that launching a new (non-fundraising) CentralNotice without prior consensus is prohibited.) --Yair rand (talk) 19:42, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you're going ahead with this while disregarding the requirements, and that the campaign is scheduled to launch in 22 hours.
I will begin the request for your removal from the CentralNotice admin user group on Sunday, on the grounds of abuse of userrights. If this would be an inconvenient time for you, I can postpone it to whatever time you would prefer. I'm sorry this had to go this way, and I know that the relevant decision probably came from higher up and this isn't your fault, but it's not safe for you to have userrights that are going to be misused this way. --Yair rand (talk) 18:31, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some thoughts[edit]

Hey SPatton,

First of all, sorry for the typically ridiculous response from some members of the community here. I'm not sure why some people think that being deliberately uncooperative is an appropriate way to exercise more community control.

That said, it might be nice in times like this to take a more collaborative tone. Rather than announcing what the Foundation will do, make something that is clearly a proposal that you would like to do, and see what the community thinks. I appreciate how responsive you have been to some community feedback, but it would be nice for the tone of the consultation to be more collaborative in finding what should be done, rather than dictating what will be done and being open about the small details.

Thanks, and I hope you're staying well during this time. – Ajraddatz (talk) 18:48, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
