Copyright problem with File:Wikimaniabidding2011.svg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Wikimaniabidding2011.svg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at this page. Thanks again for your cooperation. mickit 22:58, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Wikimania 2012
[edit]Thanks for reminding.
We will decide about going ahead with the bidding on a meeting on January the 9th. Last year we withdrawed our bid because in informal conversations with a member of the jury informed us that rotation was more important that what it seems just reading the rules. Finally we get surprised by Haifa winning bid because Haifa is approximately the same distance from Gdansk than Barcelona. I wonder if before deciding on going ahead you could advice us about the exact weight of the rotation criteria. --Gomà 08:05, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing. The bid is going ahead and we are going to have an IRC meeting tomorrow to discuss what should be done. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş 10:01, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing. I hope that our project is successful in Istanbul :). E M P E R Y A N ⎝⏠⏝⏠⎠ 18:19, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi Josep Thanks for your attention to the Barcelona & Andorra bid for Wikimania 2012. I am sorry but the organizing committee decided to retire the bid. Is it necessary that we put any note in the bid or this message is enough? --Gomà 17:28, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- This note will be fine. Thank you for letting me know and I do hope to see another Iberia bid in the future whether it from spain, portugal or andorra. 131.251.143.253 21:18, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank You!
[edit]Seddon:) On behalf of WMF I would like to thank you for your cooperation during the last fundraiser and we look forward for more fruitful and successful fundraisers over the next years. Thanks again :) --Melamrawy (WMF) 12:19, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Temporary adminship expired
[edit]Hello Seddon. The temporary adminship that you requested on this wiki has expired. The rights should have been removed some time ago but it seems we missed this one. If you need the tools again please re-aply via RfA as before. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 22:14, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Wikimania 2013
[edit]Thanks for the heads up. We are currently in the planning stage for the first Indian National WikiConference in Mumbai (Nov 2011) - any bid will probably have to be prepared simultaneously. This gives us a wake up call - we need to start preps or delay the bid by a year. AroundTheGlobe 12:38, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Translator, We need you!
[edit]Dear Seddon,
You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.
Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.
If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.
Many Thanks

RFA
[edit]Hi there! I've closed your RfA as not successful as there was no consensus to grant the flag. The result was 4/3/2. Maybe you can try it later again when you are more active around here and when you actually fulfil all criteria (listing of languages on your userpage as described here) etc. Best, -Barras 08:40, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

No worries
[edit]No problem at all, I'll request that your account is globally locked - essentially it means that you can't log in across all of the wikis (and you're logged out if you're already logged in). It's non-controversial because it's used for a lot of staff and if you do return back to the Foundation, then it's a simple job to unlock it again. The Helpful One 00:44, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Over-qualified CSS selectors
[edit]My apologies that this message is just available in English.
Over-qualified CSS selectors of portals in Wikimedia skins have been changed. div#p-personal
, div#p-navigation
, div#p-interaction
, div#p-tb
, div#p-lang
, div#p-namespaces
or div#p-variants
are now all removed of the div
qualifier, as in for example it is #p-personal, #p-navigation …
. This is so the skins can use HTML5 elements. Your gadgets or user styles seem to use them and you will have to update them. You can read more in phab:T252467. Johan (WMF) through MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:27, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Seddon. Could you help me run the central notice?

The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

CN assistance?
[edit]Hello. Would you please be able to help with CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves México 2021? The banner Agustín wants is not based on the community template, and I'd rather avoid displaying broken CSS and banners on millions of users if it goes bad. If you can't help, thanks anyway. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:13, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
CN for dummies
[edit]Hi Seddon,
I'm working on a guide 'Central Notice for Dummies', as requested by several people requesting campaigns earlier this year. I want to make sure I describe thing correctly, and had a discussion with Trizek about this change in the Help:CentralNotice page, and I just want to make sure his addition is correct. Our different interpretations of the former text are explained in User_talk:Trizek_(WMF)#Help:CentralNotice, and your comment in this would be very welcome to make sure we make no mistakes in these important settings.
Thanks! Ciell (talk) 09:37, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- Following up on this one, maybe you or a WMF collegue could read through CentralNotice/FAQ for me (maybe correcting some of my Denglish :P). I guess (hope!) there is nothing new here of course, and the page will help Wikimedians to understand how CN banners work and what the limitations are. Ciell (talk) 10:44, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
Discussion about CentralNotice Adminship inactivity and membership
[edit]Hello Seddon. There's an ongoing discussion happening on Meta:Babel that proposes changes to existing Meta:Central notice administrators practices. In particular: membership duration and inactivity. As a current volunteer central notice administrator, your participation in the discussion would be appreciated. Thank you, --MarcoAurelio (via MassMessage) (talk) 10:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
A bit quick?
[edit]I think this may have been closed a little too quickly. This page says to leave nominations for a minimum of 2 weeks, and when you closed Vermont's merch nomination was barely open for a day. --Ferien (talk) 17:40, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Ferien: When I closed I genuinely thought it was much much older because I don't think I've adjusted to the fact its a whole new year. When I realised I was wrong I decided it was probably SNOWing anyway so stuck with it and IAR. Seddon (talk) 20:01, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, was just checking with you. Happy New Year. --Ferien (talk) 20:03, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Banner about blocking in ruwiki
[edit]Here is new desision of russian ArbCom (on arbitrators forum, translation):
On March 1, 2022, the Arbitration Committee, in connection with the likely blocking of the Russian Wikipedia in the Russian Federation, by an additional decision on the case ru:АК:1223, confirmed the hanging of the banner. At the same time, banners should be hung out for a relatively short period of time, long-term use of banners reduces their effect and makes such a mechanism irrelevant. At the moment, the risk of blocking looks lower: in 10 days, the blocking has not been implemented. Thus, in connection with the reassessment of risks, the banner is removed.
Would you mind to implement this and remove ruwiki banner for now?
Thank you for the banner work already done and thanks in advance for taking your time with this request! Carn (talk) 06:02, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Banner history logger
[edit]Hi Seddon,
I hope my addition of the history logger to the CN manual is correct, please let me know if I misunderstood. Ciell (talk) 16:43, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

I would be happy if you take a look at this ticket.

Removal of CNA access
[edit]Hi Seddon, unfortunately I have to inform you that I removed your Central Notice adminship as part of the regular Meta inactivity review. This is because as far as I could see, you made no edit or log action requiring this permission in the last 12 months. --MF-W 19:01, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- As someone who has in the past advocated for the policy to apply to CN admins, fully appreciate you taking this action. Seddon (talk) 19:04, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
