Realizing getting all translations in place before the launch of the consultation may not be possible (and that people will likely help with translations after the launch), I'd be really grateful for any assistance especially that you can give in translating the templates at that Meta page link, like this one. It'll probably be harder for casual translators to help out with those!

- Text should be stable at this point. I've just made what I hope will be the last modification to those pages!

Deletion in zh.wiki[edit]

Hello Shizhao, you deleted an article in zh.wiki on 2004-04-21, 1ː41 (about a conductor). Could you please help me to understand why you deleted this article? I don't know the procedure for article deletions in zh.wiki in 2004, were there any discussions before the deletion? A question about one of the items: {{en:template:cite archive}} is specific for English Wikipedia and I try to avoid mentioning things that are only relevant for one or a few wikis. Request for Input - New Central Notice request process[edit]

Hello!

Back in February I emailed the CN-admin list regarding part of my role to look into the Central Notice process and see where we could make improvements including: the campaign process; its functionality or lack thereof; and fundamentally the documentation that supports it. You can see many of the issues that I identified at CentralNotice/Process_Review. If there is anything additional that you feel has been left out then please feel free to leave any comments on the talk page.

My first task is to improve the requesting of campaigns by communities and affiliates. I am looking to set up a more formal request process, similar to those used in many projects. The aim is to: increase the transparency of Central Notice; improve the support provided to affiliates (including making such support more consistent); to provide a forum for community input into campaigns.

I have been working on a very rough strawman version of the process and I would be interested in hearing you comments about what such a process should involve and what you think it would require. Please feel free to leave such comments at the process talk page section. I would like to have a working page in place by the end of May. This would not need to be a final version. The process can be improved upon over time as we learn about how well it works.

Wikitext editor 2017[edit]

Hi, thanks for adding the mw:2017 wikitext editor to Tech News. That document is currently a draft, so I talked to a couple of persons who're working on it, and they'll said they'll sit down and take a look at what they need to add in the coming weeks. So I think we could wait a bit to include it, and then link to it when it has all the information it could have now, to give editors as much information as possible. 2016 Community Wishlist Survey[edit]

Hackathon and meetings[edit]

HI, thanks for adding information about the hackathon to Tech News! Always appreciated. However, in this case, readers can't actually attend the meetings in question unless they are already registered: When the newsletter is delivered, the pre-hackathon days will be over, and the hackathon itself has closed its registration. Since we probably don't want to point people to a meeting they can't attend no matter what, I removed it, but I'm still always happy when things are added. Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). Harass from sockpuppet in Requests for comment[edit]

Hello Shizhao, I am a sysop of Vietnamese Wikipedia. At Vietnamese Wikipedia, we are trying to prevent vandalism from account MiG29VN (checkuser page). He creating mass puppet accounts (currently more 200 accounts) for purpose add un-NPOV information to Vietnam War topics. MiG29VN also have many abuse edit on English Wikipedia, and for several years is blocking target by checkuser processes (see en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MiG29VN/Archive).

Currently, MiG29VN still creating more and more clone accounts to make abuse edit on Vietnamese Wikipedia. Some newest accounts was blocked by me (see my block action log), and we will continue prevent any new accounts of MiG29VN in future.

However, after get blocked in Vietnamese Wikipedia, some of clone accounts continue harassing me on Meta-Wiki, by create lame topics as Requests for comment/Admin abuses at Vietnamese Wikipedia, Requests for comment/Admin ruin important topic in Vietnamese Wikipedia and Requests for comment/Administrator abuse on the Vietnamese Wikipedia (you can easly realize all those pages was created by same person via different clone account). Because I see you make a redirect correcting for one of those pages, can you help me resolve this problem? I aware that those page can't make effect to an actively community as Vietnamese Wikipedia, but it really a mess if he continue create more and more lame litigation page with me as a only target (since I am the one who directly deal with him on Vietnamese Wikipedia).

Wikimedia and Libraries User Group Steering Committee Election[edit]

Hi everyone, two quick but important updates:

Timeline for nominations and voting[edit]

  • Nominations are extended until 12 January 2018.
  • Candidates will be lightly vetted by the Founding Members (excluding those who are candidates) to help form a well-functioning committee.
  • Vetting will happen from the 13th up to 21 January 2018.
  • Voting will begin on the 22nd of January and end on the 4th of February.
  • To be able to vote, editors must have joined the usergroup before the 21st of January.
  • Results will be announced on or before the 10th of February.
