User talk:Wai Wai~metawiki
Wai Wai, thank you for fixing the introduction paragraph to the help:Editing page. I believe that the person who nuked the editing overview was rude. When I reverted, I attempted to keep all content active. I moved it to it's appropriate location. I did not simply revert. Im sorry if I appeared rude.
A tabled, wordy explanation of the wikitext does not belong on that page. I agree that mine was poor, but it was more in spirit of the page's intention. This should print to 1 page. The long wikitext table just doesn't work for that. CAn we work to find a format that would work?
Hey AaronPeterson,
It would be nice if you could sign your comment next time. To sign your comment, simply type --~~~~, the system will auto-generate the signature. Thank you.
Yes, it may look rude to throw away all previous work, and replace with a new one for no good reason.
>I did not simply revert. Im sorry if I appeared rude. That's alright. You may simply miss the previous good version. :)
Why do we confine ourselves to 1 page at max? If one needs to have something handy in print for easy reference, Help:Reference card has done its job.
Second it has been longer than 1 page already without the table.
Third since this is just a quick starter guide, there are many other related and specific topics they may need to read further on. A print of the Help:Editing print the names of the links which are useless on paper.
Fourth, so the only thing left which may be worth printing is the Editing Basics. However I don't think newbies or any experienced wiki editors need to keep refencing this on paper.
As to which format one should choose to explain the most frequently used wiki, 2 formats have been suggested so far:
- a simple cheatsheet
- table (that is what I'm doing)
As to cheatsheet, someone complains it may not be useful to newbie as it is still too simple to understand, not to say the plain version offered by you.
I think understandability is in higher priority over size. This page was once very large (maybe about 4-6 months ago), as compared to the current version.
What do you think?

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Wai Wai. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Wai Wai~metawiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
