User talk:Yannick Duchesne~metawiki
Hello Yannick, I read your note about the Wolof wikipedia. To translate the interface, you need to be a sysop there - then you can edit the pages of wo:Special:Allmessages. You can ask for it on Requests for permissions. But I recommend you to first start on working a little bit on the content, write some articles, assemble a community there and get the wiki going. the interface can be translated peu à peu. If you need more help, just ask on my talk page or come to the #wikimedia channel on IRC. greetings, --Elian 02:37, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Addition: I just read the main page of the wolof wikipedia. I think we need to talk about the framework of what should be included in wolof wikipedia:
- leurs documentations originales, gratuites et libres de droit, en langue wolof ou en toute autre langue africaine (lexiques bilingues, documents d’éducation ou d’alphabétisation, documents historiques, articles sur la santé comunautaire, contes, légendes retranscrites, poesies, proverbes, recettes de plats africains, kañe ngor (chants honorifiques), etc.)
This goes beyond the scope of wikipedia which is supposed to be an encyclopedia. There are other wikimedia projects, however, which would better fit these plans (like Wikisource, Wikiquote, Wiktionary and Wikibooks). It would be good if you subscribe to the foundation mailing list and announce what you want to do there to discuss it with the wikimedia community. --Elian 03:06, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
You marked the Wolof Wikipedia as having at least one article longer than 50 characters. However, the longest article I can find there is Dakar with 35 characters. The Wollof Wikipedia should stay indented in the list, until it has one or more long enough articles. -Hapsiainen 23:50, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)
Please see Requests for permissions#How to request status and make your request there after linking your administrators page in the section above that. Thanks. Angela 02:02, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Yannick Duchesne. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Yannick Duchesne~metawiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
