Narrative Report[edit]

My 1st Day in "Catanduanes Teachers Training" journey[edit]

  • 7:30 to 8:30 Otw to Naga City. Before riding the jeepney I felt nauseated because I don't like the smell of a jeepney but I am very excited about how this trip will look.
  • 8:30 to 11:30 we are on our way to Legazpi City Albay to get on to Catanduanes. This part excites me to see what a volcano in Albay looks like in person because it'll be my first time seeing this.
  • At 12:00 pm to 3pm, we are already on our way to Catanduanes. While we are on the ship, Daniel, who is my co-volunteer and I go outside the ship so that we can see the beauty of the ocean, the undeveloped beaches, and the colorful nature. We were waiting and expecting some creatures like dolphins or whales under the sea at that time but it came out very frustrating as they don't want to see us.
  • We have spent time looking for a hotel we can stay in temporarily so we can all rest at that time. At 5:00 pm we finally reached the Hotel named Virac Hometel. It was a very tiring day and it makes me feel relieved that we can already rest after 8-9 hours of traveling.
  • At 6:45 Ma'am Imelda and Sir Anthony tell us that we are going to have dinner outside. I enjoyed the meal that was served by the owner of the fast-food but I am worried because I am aware of how expensive fast food is. However, I love how we exchange experiences during our departure while waiting for our dinner and so I enjoyed our dinner.
  • At 9:00pm we went back to Virac Hometel to rest.
Today's realization:[edit]

This experience made me realize that I have so much more to do to prevent my life from being boring. Life will not just end with the 4 corners of our individual houses, we can explore and experience seeing those horizons, curves, and colorful patterns of the beautiful world. And we can only do that by appreciating the world around us.

My 2nd Day in "Catanduanes Teachers Training" journey[edit]

  • On the second day of this trip, Ma'am Imelda and her sister Bianca look for a beach resort because in our current hotel we felt like we are only in Naga City and we can't feel that we are in Catanduanes as we cannot be able to see something new or something different from our eyes.
  • In the morning we were instructed to pack up all our things so that when Ma'am Imelda and her sister Bianca came, we were already prepared to arrive at the beach resort they'd found.
  • At 12pm we traveled almost 40mins from Hometel to TwinRock Beach Resort. I am very excited to see how beautiful it is while arriving. When we reached the resort, we were instructed again to organize our things, drink coffee, and rest. After a few hours, we don't waste the opportunity to explore the TwinRock resort. This is my favorite part because we took lots of pictures in different areas of the resort.
  • In the evening, we prepared our food for dinner. There are people who are cooking, preparing the table, and getting the food from the kitchen to the table where we are going to eat.
  • At 8 pm Ma'am Imelda and Sir Anthony conducted a short meeting with regards to Teachers Training in Bislig Elementary School.
Today's realization:[edit]

After this exciting and wondrous day, my realization is "Time is gold". If we are going to give importance to our time or if we know how to manage our time, we will be amazed that we can do a lot in just one day. For me it's like when you know how to manage your time, you know how to manage your future as well.

My 3rd Day in "Catanduanes Teachers Training" journey[edit]

  • Today is our 3rd day here in Catanduanes. We are going to attain our main purpose why we're here, which is to train teachers about wiki projects.
  • At 7:30 am we arrived from TwinRock Beach Resort at Bislig Elementary School. It was 40minutes of traveling again but I always enjoy traveling within the area of Catanduanes because there are lots of sceneries I can enjoy while traveling.
  • When we reached the Bislig Elementary School, we set up all the gadgets that we needed to get ready for this training. While Sir Anthony and Ma'am Imelda are demonstrating, I and my co-volunteers are assisting teachers if they need help following what Ma'am and Sir say.
  • The principal in Bislig Elementary School is very accommodating and thoughtful. He offers us breakfast and lunch so that we are not hungry before and after conducting the training.
  • At 1:40 pm we finally traveled again from Bislig Elementary School to TwinRock Beach Resort. It was very fulfilling that we finally accomplished our main purpose why we're here in Catanduanes. It feels like we can now do whatever we wanted to do without something that bothers us.
  • In the evening after having our dinner, we played spin the bottle which is very intense. This spin-the-bottle game gives me a lot of learning.

Today's realization:[edit]

For today's realization, do not ever make a decision if you are not in the right mood or emotion to do so, because at the end of the day it is not only you who will be affected by those decisions but others will too.

My 4th day in "Catanduanes Teachers Training" journey[edit]

  • Today is our 4th day here in Catanduanes. We have to wake up early because we need to reach the ferry before it leaves.
  • At 4:00 am I prepared and checked my things to get ready for our departure.
  • From 7:30 to 8:30 am we arrived at Twin Rock Beach Resort to Catanduanes Pier. When we reached the Pier of Catanduanes, I bought some souvenirs there and banana chips to have something to bring to my family.
  • While we are traveling from Catanduanes to Tabaco, Albay we are all just sleeping because of the unknown tiredness we feel. We have a lot of chances to watch what's happening outside while we are traveling but we chose to sleep to lessen the tiredness we feel.
  • At 12pm we reached Tabaco Albay and waited for the van to come.
  • At 1 pm, the Van finally came and we traveled again from Tabaco City Albay to Naga City. While we were traveling, I felt sad knowing that we are going back to reality again after this long day of departure. I also realized that this is one of the unforgettable experiences that I always treasure and love to share with other people. Apart from that, I also came up with the idea that these 4 days of adventure is not always about happiness, it is also about learning, especially on how to make an adjustment and how to accept the fact that each person has a unique personality that you might like or dislike.

Today's realization:[edit]

And today I have this quote "We cannot only get learning from school, because we can also get it from the people around us and from our experiences." It is all because I have learned a lot in this experience with people such as my co-volunteers and administrators that I am honestly not familiar with.

  • What is your role as a volunteer in the wiki outreach activity conducted? How did you prepare for it?
During the wiki outreach activity, my role as a volunteer is to be an assistant of our two administrators namely Ma'am Imelda and Sir Anthony. I was encharge to help those teachers to follow the steps on how to use the specific wiki projects that Ma'am Imelda and Sir Anthony are currently discussing. Furthermore, I am currently a college student who is dreaming of becoming a teacher someday and during the implementation of this outreach activity it was coincidentally our examination day as well, so it was not easy for me to prepare. But with my willingness to join and to become a volunteer in this outreach activity, I get to manage and balance my time between doing my examination and preparing for the outreach activity. Luckily, I was able to accomplish my written examination as early as possible, before our departure from Pasacao to Catanduanes Island. I can always say that when you love what you are doing, you can do everything to make a room for it.
  • What are your learnings during the whole activity?
Personally, I have a lot of learnings before, during and after this whole activity we have had in Catanduanes.
My learning before this activity happened was, "When you love what you do, there will be no room for you to give up and get frustrated but instead you are becoming more motivated." I came up with this idea because as I have said, the day that we are going to travel in Catanduanes for the implementation of this wiki outreach activity was also our examination day. I love the teaching field which is my course in college now and I also love being a volunteer so I strive and find time to accomplish them both.
Moreover, my learning during the activity was "Change is constant." I simply mean that our world will not only rotate to whom we are currently with right now. We can met a lot of people with different personalities and so being a volunteer is not only about willingness to serve, it is also about willingness to be patient, accept, adapt, and understand that in some instances of our life, we might encounter people which is different from personalities we have which might lead to a conflict. So as much as possible, we need to accept, adapt and understand that we are all different because it is our responsibility as a volunteer.
And lastly, my learnings after the activity was "Never let your shyness be the hindrance for doing what you love to do, because keep on pushing yourself might be the key to overcome your shyness and make your confidence boosted." I have been living in this world for almost 22 years and because of bullying that happened to me when I was in grade 1, It has trapped me into shyness and led me to have low self-confidence which I am suffering until now. It has never been easy for me to overcome this thing that I am considering as a tragedy of my life because until now it prevents me from doing what I love and want to do. It makes me afraid of public speaking which is very important in this organization and my course as a college student, it prevents me from expressing myself to others and lastly this shyness that was brought to me by bullying is making me feel worthless and hated myself as it makes me feel failed about everything. However, I am in love with editing now in every wiki project and hopefully it will become an instrument for me to overcome what bullying made me do.
  • Give us some few highlights of your best experience in the activity.
I have a lot of best experience during the implementation of this activity we have in Catanduanes and some of them are:
When we are traveling because it is my first time to ride in a ship. It really makes me astonished by how it feels and looks like to ride in a ship. I am expecting to see creatures under the water while traveling but unluckily we don't see anything. It never frustrates me because I am confident that I can see sea creatures when we come back there again.
Aside from that, I love the different sceneries that are hidden in Catanduanes Island. I love how Catanduanes look because it's very different from what I ever imagined. I can honestly say that Catanduanes is better than Naga City, as it has a jaw-dropping tourist spot like white sand beaches. Knowing that I love doing photography, I feel excited because by chance, there's plenty of scenic views here. Apart from that, Ma'am Dang and Sir Anthony decided to look for a beach for us to stay at. During our departure, I was really surprised that Catanduanes is more beautiful than the other cities. It amazed me more when we reached our destination which is the Twin Rock Resort. If someone will let me describe this resort in one word, I will definitely say it's "Jaw-dropping".
And lastly, the genuine staff of Bislig Elementary School was also the best experience to have. They are all professional, but they never make us feel lower than them, instead they let us feel comfortable, that's what made me love the Island of Catanduanes.
  • Cite some difficulties you've encountered during the outreach activity and tell us what would you do differently next time.
For me, the difficulties that I have encountered during the outreach activity is socializing with others. I am not so introverted but I am a shy type of person, and honestly I failed to socialize with my other co-volunteers. I failed to be patient with the attitude and personalities of other volunteers as I easily cried and got affected by small things that happened there.
I notice that having low self-confidence is very hard. You can easily cry, you can easily get hurt and you can be very fragile. As a person who is having a characteristic like this, the thing that I will be doing next time is to advise them to be sensitive to other people's feelings and make some adjustments because we have different levels of sensitivity. Personally, I will try my best to make an adjustment too. Next time, I will be preparing myself emotionally so I can handle my feelings about these matters. We volunteer, we need to do this for our organization and for each and every one of us to grow emotionally when it comes to these matters. We are no longer teenagers, we have to be responsible for fixing our problems on our own.
  • As a volunteer, what impact did the activity have to you? Are you willing to be part of similar activities in the future?
