WikiArabia is an annual conference for the Wikimedia movement in the Arab world. It is usually held in one of the Arab countries to discusses topics related to the Wikimedia movement and its various projects, alongside other free content initiatives and their impact on active communities in the region.
The Wikimedians of Kuwait User Group is organizing WikiArabia 2026 in Qatar, in the city of Doha, from November 6 to 8. This edition will focus on celebrating the Arabic language, exploring applications of artificial intelligence, supporting underrepresented projects within the Arab community, building strategic partnerships, and offering workshops aimed at developing the skills needed by the community.

Theme
The theme for Wikiarabia Qatar is Arabic, Future, Empowerment.
As we continually strive for a better future for our Arab community, this edition’s theme has been designed to meet the community’s needs, enhance their capabilities, and provide the highest level of knowledge and value from this conference.
Arabic
Celebrating the Arabic language has always been at the heart of WikiArabia, as it brings together the wider Arab Wikimedia community. This year, we highlight the importance of Arabic and the projects that support and strengthen it across Wikimedia platforms. The conference will explore how to write high-quality Arabic-related articles, focus on correct spelling, grammar, and morphology, and discuss ways to standardize scientific terminology on Arabic Wikipedia. We will also present projects that expand Arabic lexical data on Wikidata and support the development of Wiktionary.
Together, we celebrate our language and work to ensure it continues to grow and thrive for future generations.
Future
At this conference, we focus on the ideas and technologies shaping the future of the Arab Wikimedia community. We explore how artificial intelligence can support the development of Arabic Wikipedia, and using AI tools with Wiktionary and Wikidata. Discussions will also cover linking sister projects, such as Wikidata, Commons, and Wikisource, to Arabic Wikipedia to create stronger and more connected content.
In addition, we highlight Arabic language processing, bot projects, Hackathon and Software development, Wikimedia, the technical tools that help improve quality and efficiency, and Movement Future.
Together, these conversations aim to build a stronger, more innovative, and future-ready community.
Empowerment
Empowerment is a key theme of this conference. We focus on strengthening the Arab Wikimedia community by building strong local and regional partnerships, especially with Arab scientific and academic institutions. The event creates space for participants to meet partners, exchange ideas, and build meaningful collaborations.
We also support empowerment through practical workshops. These sessions introduce newcomers to Wikimedia and its projects, present new technologies related to Wikidata and Wiktionary, and explore Arabic Wikipedia topics such as policy development, committee formation, and project updates. In addition, soft skills workshops, covering communication, trust-building, and project management, help participants grow both personally and professionally.
GLAM and cultural heritage will be featured in empowerment sessions through collaboration with heritage institutions and partners, enriching regional content and documenting Arab cultures.
Together, these initiatives aim to empower participants, enhance their skills, and build a stronger, more capable Arab Wikimedia community.
