This session demonstrates how Qatar National Library (QNL) uses open access to preserve and share cultural and scientific knowledge. It will outline QNL’s digitization and licensing principles for making archival materials publicly available without barriers. The session will showcase digital platforms such as the Qatar Digital Library for heritage materials and Manara for research outputs, both considered part of the national heritage. It will also discuss the impact of this open strategy on education in Qatar, providing specific examples. Additionally, the session will introduce the Open Heritage Statement, describe QNL’s intention to become a signatory, and invite participants to explore open heritage and consider adopting the statement at their own institutions. |
