WikiCite 2016/Proposals/Crossref DOI Resolution Log data

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Proposal[edit]

Background[edit]

Crossref runs the DOI linking service for scholarly publishing. DOIs are persistent, resolvable links. They fight link rot by being updated when the content they point to moves. Crossref operates on behalf of publishers to register content items, metadata and DOIs, and we keep the links working. When you see a doi.org link in a citation, that's one of ours. We've just reprocessed the latest resolution data, and Wikipedia shows up as #6 non-publisher referrer to DOIs.

Aim[edit]

We have lots of data containing DOIs as they were resolved (clicked in a browser or followed by a machine) and the page that they were found on. I'd like to make people aware of the referral data. Maybe you have ideas about what you could do with the data?
