Directions

From San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to David Brower Center

The simplest way to get from the airport to the venue is to take Bart (see below for more information on Bart such as fares and schedules). There is a Bart station located in the airport, which is accessible from every terminal via airtrain. The David Brower Center is located just steps away from Downtown Berkeley Bart.

There is no direct train from the airport to the David Brower Center - passengers must transfer. The most convenient route is to take a Pittsburgh/Bay Point train (yellow line) from the airport, then transfer to a Richmond train (orange line) at 19th Street Oakland, where there are timed transfers for most trains, then three more stops to Downtown Berkeley. There are several Bart stops in Berkeley, so be sure to get off at the Downtown Berkeley Bart.

From the station, head south on Shattuck avenue to the intersection of Allston Way and Shattuck. Turn left and head east up Allston Way. The Center is about three quarters of the way up the block on your right.

Public Transportation Overview

If you are staying at a hotel in San Francisco, you will need to travel across the bay to attend. The venue is just steps from public transportation and parking.

Clipper Card

If you are planning on using public transportation while you are at the dev summit, we recommend you purchase a Clipper Cardand preload it with enough money to cover your fares while you are here. Clipper Card is convenient, because it can be used on different transit systems in San Francisco and the East Bay. The Clipper Card can be used on buses, ferries, BART, and light rail. It can also be used to rent bikes from the local bike ride share. A number of agencies provide discounted fares to individuals using Clipper Cards.

Clipper Cards can be purchased at most area Walgreens. They cost $3.00. Value can be added at the time of purchase or you can add value online or using BART kiosks. The Clipper Card is also sold at some BART and transit stations throughout the system. Pro tip: Going back and forth twice between the venue and the hotel will cost approximately $17 total.

BART

BARTis probably the quickest, most convenient way to reach the venue from downtown San Francisco. The David Brower Center is located just steps away from the Downtown Berkeley Bart Station. The nearest BART station to the Parc 55 Hotel is Powell Street BART. The ride from Powell Street to Downtown Berkeley takes 25 minutes; trains run every 7-8 minutes until about 8pm, and every 20 minutes thereafter.

Taxi or ride share

Taxis and ride sharing services (Lyft, Uber, etc) are convenient and fairly inexpensive. Be aware that freeway travel times can vary greatly between San Francisco and Berkeley depending on the time of day. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. If you use a ride sharing service, you may notice an extra charge added to your final bill for bridge tolls.

Drive & Park

The David Brower Center is located in downtown Berkeley close to the UC Berkeley Campus. There are a number of options for parking near the venue. You can learn more about at the City of Berkeley's Offstreet Parkingpage.

Be aware that driving times can vary greatly depending on the time of day.

Bike

Berkeley is a bike friendly city, and there are plenty of places near the David Brower Center to park your bike. If you would like to bike as part of your commute to this year's Dev Summit, we encourage you to learn more about Berkeley's bike parking policies.

If you plan on coming by bike to Berkeley from San Francisco, there are two good ways to get your bike across the bay.

Bike shares and rentals in the Bay

Bike Share:San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland have “Ford Go” Bikesfor rent at stations throughout the Bay Area.

Bike Rental:There are a number of vendors in the area that have bikes for rent (ex Blazing Saddles, Bike Rentals San Francisco)

Bikes on BART

You can travel on BART with your bike for no extra charge. The suggested line to take is the Richmond line from San Francisco. You can ride straight to Downtown Berkeley or hop off at any station along the way depending on how long you would like your ride to be.

There are specific bike rules for BART, which you should make yourself familiar with before riding.

San Francisco Bay Ferry

The SF Bay Ferry is a fun and easy way to travel across the bay with your bike. Ferries leave for Oakland frequently from Pier 41 and the San Francisco Ferry Building. There will be some folks riding in the mornings of the Dev Summit.

Traveling from outside the USA

• If you require a passport and visa to attend WikiCite 2018, make sure to give yourself adequate time to complete your paperwork before you travel.
• Please let the organizers know if you require a visa invitation letter. We appreciate requests made well in advance of any appointments or travel. Please remember WikiCite is largely volunteer run, and we may require some time to complete your request.
• If you have applied for a travel scholarship, you are responsible for making sure you are able to receive funds from U.S. banks. We are unable to release scholarship funds to individuals who cannot receive funds from U.S. banks.
