Abstract (maximum 500 words)

Cloud Computing is Internet-based computing, where resources, information of data etc. are shared and provided to end users (computers and devices) on demand like electricity grid[1] for establishing a computably capable system through large number of relatively low-cost computing entity, and using the architecture of SaaS, PaaS & IaaS to provide the computing capability. Before the term cloud, the term service grid was sometimes used to define a managed distributed computing platform that can be used for business as well as scientific applications. A recent IDCI survey accounted that 74% of IT executives and CEO’s cited security as to challenge preventing their adoption of the cloud service model (Clauister, 2009). Analysts estimate that within the coming five years, the global market for dynamic computing will grow approximately $95billion and that 12% of the worldwide software market will move to the cloud computing. To realize this tremendous potential, business must address the security question raised by this new computing model (BNA, 2009). Security is one of the major issues which reduces the growth of cloud computing and complications with data privacy and data protection continue to provoke the market. Cloud user need to be vigilant in understanding the risks of data breaches in this new environment. User authentication and authorization (e.g. single sign on) is an important issue which adds security to the resources. In this paper, a survey of the different security issues that pose a threat to the cloud is presented. A cloud must be secure, and it must be able to secure itself.
